  1. ! Moderator Note Moved to Speculations. This is not science it is fantasy. Please provide either maths behind your idea or experimental information or this thread will be locked. do not respond to this moderation. report this post if you feel it is unfair
  2. There are add-ons to most browsers that lock you out of social networks whilst you should be studying - worth trying
  3. No they are not deleted. Do you have a firm example?
  4. Luminescent particles uniformly distributed at T_0 and then tracked (via glass sidewalls?) during movement
  5. Ten year auto-necromancy - that's gotta be a record
  6. A better explanation than I would have given. FYG the analogy I had in mind was refer -> referral which I think fits better. Agree again - it is the same intonation / stress pattern as referral which was my pattern
  7. For work? That's a military spec anti-materiel rifle. Convert 22,000 foot pounds to joules - 29,828 joules Convert 800 grains to kilograms - .0518 grams KE = 1/2 mass * velocity squared velocity = 1072 m/s which is awfully fast Convert 1072 m/s to miles per hour - 2,398 mph. And you need this for work?
  8. i am alone i hear the cries of sorrow from my heart, and its now full of spite, i tell him “hello muddy” his tail wags with might, i love the spring, when all the lives he was as happy as could be a smarty so listen to my concern so i’ll be back together with you. tears fall from heaven above, and from this storm shall come no dove. The Aggregate Kid
  9. ! Moderator Note Georgi Zlatev you are being asked for proof and or references for your assertions; we do not allow soap-boxing (which is the continued indifference to / ignoral (*) of any counter-arguments or comments) so please start to respond to these requests. * is this a word? If it isn't it should be
  10. Isn't denoting Judaism, Christianity, and Islam as Asian religions getting too tied up in our current politico-geographic demarkations. The Abrahamic tribes that gave birth to all three of those religions are closely connected, not to say integral, to the development of all the Mediterranean/Northern European civilisations. Their influence on the most of what we now consider to be the same continent was minimal. Linking the Phonecian society founded in Biblos/Jubail in the 9th millenium BC with the Longshan culture of the Yellow River in the third millenium BC is similarly over-extending the import of the simple geographical name - Asia. A large percentage of indigenous religions have been surplanted - this is very much the nature of proselytizing religion. It would be an interesting trivia question to know which city can claim to have held the same institutional religion for the longest time
  11. It doesn't really. You could probably include most studies in Philosophy - but your statement is too strong; its prosaic but try looking up a dictionary definition - they are often a good starting point. Funnily your assertion is also almost self-contradictory. We can speculate, imagine, guess, and hypothesise about the unknown - but we cannot really study it; for then it would not be unknown. That's nice - but this is a discussion forum and I hold dear the right to call a question worthless when I want to and believe I am right to do so. And I am not sure you are correct about learning - asking questions and listening to the answers is how we learn; endless flights of imagination with no formalism and no discipline can produce marvels but more often produces a self-satisfied mess with no academic, pedagogic, or aesthetic worth whatsoever. Asking questions is great - but the incisiviness of the questions one asks is the measure not the volume nor the asking in and of itself. It is a question of how we live our lives - of course I brought up Ethics. And no one limited anyone's right to ask questions - you are being needlessly melodramatic. Gaining knowledge about the workings of telepathy; really? - again your definitions are slipping. Have you heard of gigo? Basing an ethical argument on a known falsehood is only interesting in a very narrow sense. There are not two sides to every argument, there does not always need to be comprehension of the middle ground ; claiming that both sides of a question need to be investigated and weighed equally is falling into the trap of the fallacy of moderation. There is no telepathy; we do not need to consider the effects of telepathy on our ethical and moral compass. A toy ethical system premised on the existence of telepathy might be interesting but it can never even approxiate a real world ethical system as it is flawed ab initio. And you get a full-house of fallacies by rounding it off with the slippery slope. Good job.
  12. Agree completely "as disposable as today's pickle jars" If anything more so...there are entire seemingly geographical features in Rome that upon closer inspection turn out to be enormous ceramic disposal heaps
  13. ! Moderator Note Sovex Your speculative post was moved to its own thread. In future do not answer other members questions with your own speculation; ie just one speculative idea per thread please http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/91030-universe-as-a-brain/
  14. At Med School our multiple choices were full negative marking. +1 for correct answer, zero for a blank, -1 for a wrong answer. Get 50 right and 50 wrong and end up with zero marks
  15. Look alright from a quick glance (but surely you can drag up loads of versions on google and doublecheck) - but I would suggest labelling the diagrams with the aspect as well - ie dorsal aspect of Axis (c1) of Ox. I realise it is obviously a dorsal aspect - but some teachers can be picky. If you chose th pictures then I would suggest one dorsal aspect and one superior aspect in order to show the articular facets and the foramen transversarium etc
  16. ! Moderator Note No Discussion of Theoreticals speculation in this thread. DO NOT BRING YOUR IDEAS UP IN OTHER THREADS AGAIN. This is viewed as hijacking and against our rules. No need for anyone to response to this moderation. Report it if you feel it is unfair.
  17. Power from hydrocarbons distributed electrically is a lovely system Some of the largest ships in the world use it - some use gas turbines as the initial stage and others standard diesel motors, the power is then sent to small and very efficient electric motors in fully azimuthing (horrible word I am afraid) pods hanging underneath the hull. You get forward drive, navigation and stabilisation all at the same time through one single system. And because the motors/turbines are run at max efficiency for a greater percentage of the time (you use multiple small units which you attempt to utilise at max efficiency or turn off) and you get less adverse hydrodynamical effects you get an overall efficiency saving as well. But getting it to work and maintenance is very difficult compared to a single enormous diesel engine.
  18. Even though this is the philosophy forum we tend to avoid discussing issues such as telepathy as if they were factual. Lots on this forum (not me) call into question the value of philosophy per se; it is much more difficult to see the use of an ethical idea founded on something false.
  19. ! Moderator Note 1. What does this have to do with Quasars and Gravity? 2. Is this pure guesswork? - ie can you connect it to any empirical work a/o mathematical model 3. Why is the graviton massive? 4. Even more importantly why is the photon? Please immediately attend to answering question 2. If you cannot provide the beginning of an answer then this thread will be locked. This forum is not provided for wild flights of fancy - it is for amateur scientists to have their hypotheses tested by their peers. At present your posts are not science - they are mere guesswork with no foundation in reality, acknowledged science, or logical link with work done before. Ant Sinclair - you have one more chance in this thread to show that this is a hypothesis worthy of discussion. To do this you must give one good arguable reason founded in maths or observation of why your notion should be considered. do not respond to this moderation. report if you feel it is unfair.
  20. And for suspension
  21. ! Moderator Note Georgi Zlatev and Everyone else This is the Other Science forum and discussion of God and Religion is out of place. All religious discussion should be within the Religion subforum. Posts making a religious argument may be seen as hijacking and thus risk sanction.
  22. Ah - I did read that the amount of reflected light is perilously small but I hadn't understood it took that long/that many mesaurements to get the precise reading
  23. I thought everyone already did...or is that why I don't get any calls to interview
  24. In a two body gravitational system the seperation varies inversely with G (note1). We can (and do) currently measure the earth moon distance to an accuracy of 3x10^-2 metres over a distance of 3.85X10^8metres; 3cm in 385,000 km via the apollo 11 lunar ranging equipment. We would immediately notice that level of change BTW this level of accuracy far exceeds the level of accuracy we have of G anyway which is only accurate to a few thousandths of a percent of its value. 1. I think it also changes the eccentricity - which might with a bigger shift make more of a difference
