  1. You shouldn't reply if you're tired. Write down your thoughts, so you don't forget them and post the next day. I should follow my sayings more often... EDIT: Some forums show edit date and time, so, i guess it's not that hard. Would it be possible to lock the original text, but keep the ability to "endorse" it after some hours? I'd recommend to limit the full edit time to 1 or 2 hours, and 24 hours for supplement.
  2. How is AVG different to Avast? Automated updates? System resources? Free?
  3. Pretender, have you been watching "Unlocking The Mystery Of Life"? Like i always say: "You can't smear tuna on your toast when there is no toast." All we can perceive is contrast; either something exists or not: Black and white; wet and dry; back, forth, left, right, up or down... you get the idea.
  4. Yea, i guess it's easy to prove, but i do neither have the resources nor the courage to check that myself (if you know what i mean). I just want to make sure there's evidence, so we can continue and investigate further things. Moo, i got "What The Bleep Do We Know" and "Unlocking The Mystery Of Life". Didn't watch 'em, yet, but will. Thanks for the refference. And could somebody please comment on that thread: reor-matter
  5. I don't know enough about these matters, so, excuse if i'm not making sense here: i just had the idea that the [acr=Big Bang]BB[/acr] may be a result of the expansion of the universe. EDIT: Thanks, Martin, for the links! I know german alright!
  6. So, to sum it up, sulfur is just a poor excuse for carbon. Life as i see it is a rather unique constellation. That's why i don't totally exclude the possible existence of a god. I'd even go as far as saying there is no other life in this universe.
  7. Well, i agree. I should have said "i've heard that" or "read it somewhere", but that's beside the point. Or did you mean you have evidence against it? I hoped for one of you guys to "answer" that. Keep 'em coming!
  8. But then again, sulfer is poisonous. No, serious, is that relevant? Would carbon be toxic to sulfur-based lifeforms?
  9. Yay! Another one! Count me in! I've been always wondering how they could say what extincted the dinosaurs, because of its date. The Big Bang would have to be even older, so, i was/am very sceptic about that. Though, it doesn't mean it's not valid.

You probably wonder what this is and expected the answer to be in this post. Well, not quite. I want You to tell me what it is! It's filling the universe, just like water is filling the ocean. Now, there surely are several theories about this and i want to hear 'em all. What (theoretical) types of matter are there? I'm looking for a term that describes a theoretical unknown matter, something like "x-matter". Is pseudo- or quasi-matter what i'm looking for?
  11. I meant prayers in the sense of positive thinking. What i want to tangent here is the effect of thoughts on the outside world. The brain may influence [acr=A fictional matter i just made up]"reor[/acr]-matter" in a way that events in the environment are affected.
  12. I can't prove either. But i'm wondering what causes symptoms similar to alcoholic influence, like cheerfulness, dazedness and hallucinations.
  13. They're pretty fun! I wished there were more around. I'd choose this over a rollercoaster anytime! But it gets a bit boring just floating around in mid air. There Should be a big field covered with those blowers!
  14. Scientific, logical or practical use of supernatural matters Stuff like "soul" or "praying" may not sound very scientific, but it may bear potential value. Praying is commonly understood as worshipping a superior being, but it also is a form of meditation which can help you relax and focus your mind to achieve better physical performance. The body is said to lose about 21 grams immediately after decease. The soul may be something intangible and unknown, yet contain explanations for various phenomena in the universe. What (theoretical) types of matter are there? I'm looking for a term that describes a theoretical unknown matter, something like "x-matter". Is pseudo- or quasi-matter what i'm looking for?
  15. Top 10 Rejected Patents 10. cutlery for pets 9. squirrel mayonnaise (made of squirrels) 8. waterproof sponge 7. blunt scalpels 6. inedible plastic food (oh, wait...) 5. fake tinfoil (made of gold) 4. shoes with spikes on the in-side 3. Paris Hilton repellent (patent "pending") 2. flee termination device (a very small hammer) 1. perpetuum mobile Next: Top 10 things not to do while in wake surgery (either as doctor or patient)
  16. We had a related thread about this already. Even people who suffer sleepless sickness experience something called micro-sleep, and some people merge into a trance-like state to compensate the sleep deficiency. What? Lack of sleep means stress which means higher nutrient consumption and accumulation of pollutants.
  17. And how are we puny mortals to pay all those lawyers??? insane_alien, does slate work underwater? How much does it cost?
  18. Isn't writing just like talking? Which parts are responsible for communication?
  19. I believe the mind is material and a result of interaction between the various parts of the brain. I see the mind as a set of perceptions. I don't know about quantum effects, but i think there is alot the brain does which we don't know about, yet. The origins of our thinking may lie "deeper", but the mind as i see it is a material result. Did you mean "mind" as a whole or did you mean "consciousness" or "self-awareness"?
  20. Lack of sleep draws heavily on resources. The brain is affected first, because of its sensitive structures and the fast consumption of nutrients. It starts consuming itself.
  21. I had similar ideas. I was thinking of a mechanical, waterproof notepad that could be used anywhere. What would be more efficient? Chemical, magnetic or mechanical? Oh, and thanks for providing those links in your sig!
  22. I think we've all learned from Jurrasic Park. By the time that somebody finds usefull dino [acr=DeoxyriboNucleic Acid]DNA[/acr], genetic engineering will be advanced enough to accomplish such a task like modifying stem cells to complement and reproduce ancient nuclei. So, we just need to find usefull dino [acr=DeoxyriboNucleic Acid]DNA[/acr]. [acr=As Far As I Know]AFAIK[/acr] [acr=DeoxyriboNucleic Acid]DNA[/acr] that old is almost useless, even if "perfectly" preserved. It just doesn't hold that long. EDIT: There was a mammoth found in the syberian ice, but no usefull [acr=DeoxyriboNucleic Acid]DNA[/acr] was found.
  23. Let's just assume time travel IS possible, how would you go about to test or prove it? If you were to send a probe you'd have to make sure it survives the journey and doesn't corrupt the timeline by exposing sensitive data.
