... Part from if you actually got arosed you would pass out from low blood pressure or you would have constant high blood pressure and would end up haemorrhaging and either bleeding out or having a stroke.

I think it would be more likely that DNA synthesis techniques would develop to the point where the whole DNA strand could be resynthesised from mutiple fraction of the DNA which are all partially degraded but together can make a complete DNA strand, but of course then putting it in the croc still wouldn't work......

I dunno, biochemistry is nearly all organic chemistry, if they are a fan of inorganic chemistry there is little there, plus I wouldn't say biochemistry has a great deal of detail on many areas of biology such as evolution or the overall working of most organisms, it takes it to a far smaller more detailed scale.

The Concept Of IQ Is Based On Lies And Elaborate Deception
Psycho replied to Abdul-Aziz's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Indeed, IQ doesn't really tell you anything but a very broad outline of peoples knowledge and how they apply it, yet the IQ test puts an exact number on it. An ironic post considering hypocrisy of it, we are in no way born equal, which just punches a whole in your entire statement. -
Because if you or I went and preformed eye surgery the person would end up blind and that is the equivalent of anyone with their current knowledge trying to genetically "improve" the human race. If anything the correct way to go about this would be to have one child with on allele, one with another until all combinations are fulfilled through multiple progeny too observe which are the best alleles, but that isn't going to happen. Then of course you would have to have all the progeny in all conceivable future environments to make sure whatever occurred they could still adapt to it, as it is all great being super fast but not if when the temperature reaches above 35 degree they die of exhaustion.

Is it a protein in fire flies or something else as that should really be incorporated into the DNA of a foreign organism as that would be awesome.
-
What exactly does that show apart from nothing, some guy had a hypothesis 40 years ago, since when no evidence has been accumulated to prove it.

You can go much lower and at some point it will probably happen, whether it will really effect anything or not is another question. The current problem is the physicist's don't quite understand it yet so no one else has go a chance.

They might prevent death though. I wouldn't say cancer was the best example of for this, there are better ones such as high blood pressure which people are regularly checked for. The difference between going to the dentist is that your teeth are just inorganic enamel until you get down the the root, you have to get through a lot of it with little pain and by the time you realise the damage is done, where as with many other illnesses even to the extent of the common cold, if it is there you know about it.

Well the whole system would mean you could have the other cars around you swerve as well to make room, which would never happen now you would just hit the other cars. To be fair if you couldn't see the kid coming a computer with sensors could break much fast due to a lesser reaction time.

It isn't possible to have YY as most of the genes are not only silenced but not even present. XXY causes Klinefelter's syndrome, X causes turners syndrome. Most chromosome ploidy conditions result in infertility.

uncut DNA in electrophoresis!! help!!
Psycho replied to mk_2007's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
As otherwise you won't know if the Cut DNA has actually been cut up or is just the normal DNA, you can work it out of course with markers but it is easier just to have two bands form. -
Well the whole reason it isn't is because unlike a vaccine the drug would have to be re-administered regularly for example acyclovir is supposed to be administered 5 times a day, where as I am sure it could be increased too a week but maybe not so. Not to mention it not being full effective so the drug would have to be throughout the body in quite high levels due to the virus being contracted via skin contact. It could work but it would be a lot of hassle for not much gain, not too mention that I would doubt the long term, high concentration of the drug most likely hasn't been tested.

Normally due to HSV being a retrovirus the drugs target the RNA dependant DNA polymerase as this protein is used by the virus but isn't present naturally in the body so inhibiting it won't harm the body, but will stop the virus being able to replicate. If taken constantly yes it would prevent infection by the virus, unless of course it mutated, but everyone would have to take it all the time or at least enough to create herd immunity, the problem isn't severe enough for that approach to become common practise.

de novo production of oxytocin by Leydig cells
Psycho replied to ian.jager's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
I would guess it would be some kind of advert, not quite sure what for, either that or they have completely miss understood the purpose of this forum. -
Microwaves melt your organs?!?!
Psycho replied to christiannnna's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
RF signals, microwaves and radio waves don't have sufficient energy to cause the ionizing effects that cause DNA mutation. Light bulbs also produce light by electricity do they cause cancer? The media are a bunch of idiots who know they will sell more copies if they scare people, I mean are you really going to buy a newspaper that say "Mobile phones are safe check page 6 for details" or if it says "mobile phones cause brain tumours check page 6 for details", the commonly accepted advise is that they cause no harm but you shouldn't sit on your phone for 8 hours a day as there are better things to do. -
Since when was that the case, I always though the "mis"conception was that they were all idiots reading a useless script because they don't know what they are talking about or how to fix the problem. Mine would be the misconception that people who work in a massive shop will have any idea if you have the item they want even if they work in a completely different department of the shop.

Look My Hand Is In the Wall....
Psycho replied to Catharsis's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
That the wall doesn't chemically react with your hand as it is in macromolecules. You would have to exceed the activation energy of the reaction. -
You can't have that at you would be dead due to your DNA not being able to be transcribed, not to mention the whole problem with mitosis.

Look My Hand Is In the Wall....
Psycho replied to Catharsis's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
You say on very simple terms and I know what you mean, but the atoms would never get close enough to repel each other with any significant force would they? -
What it could be is an inflamed hair follicle, meaning either bacteria has got into it or the hair is ingrowing, they will work their way out on their own normally however can be painful and can be pulled out so the hair grows outwards if you can see the hair. If you aren't sexually active and it has come on in less than a week it is going to be infection related if it is red and a bit painful, which means it should fix itself after a while. If you are sexually active I would go get it checked out.

Dunno if that would give you all the enzymes though and might not even mention the pentose-phosphate pathways, I would think an undergrad biochemistry text book would be better.
-
I would think physical chemistry would be more important as it would use applied physics more.

Studies have been show a link to higher rates of leukaemia in people living very close to over head power lines.
