  1. Indeed it is safe, it is just the ethics behind it, such as if you have a 60% risk of cancer than average do you really want to know that and live in angst even though you may never get cancer. There are ways in which I think it is good, as it shows any problems that may occur in children that can be solved, or diagnosed before birth to give the parents the choice whether or not they can handle having a child with a severe disability, or who is mentally retarded.
  2. The different complexes accept the e- from the reduction of NADH and FADH2 which changes the structure of the double bonds in the complexes, the proteins channel the electrons across the membrane but there are other electron carriers such as Coenzyme Q which is a Ubiquinone and this changes it structure from having conjugating double bonds to an aromatic conjugated bond, these electrons are then passed on and this causes electrons to pass across the membrane.
  3. Well lightening causes nitrogen fixations which I guess would increase the amount of NO2- and NO3- in the soil, so maybe indirectly, but I can't really see that being a large amount.
  4. Happiness is rather hard to quantify anyone because one might think they are above average happiness but if another person was in there mental state they may think they are only averagely happy. You presume that being pessimistic makes them unhappy and they aren't just happy accepting that option, then of course if they are always pessimistic when things go there way surely that would be a better outcome than they expected, whereas if you are an optimist you leave yourself open to disappointment, however have the content feeling before the event occurs. Then there is the rating of average intelligence, in the UK for instance if you take performance in exams as a sign of intelligence, which in most cases doesn't take into account many useful skills, then last year old 46% of people got more than 5 A* to C grades and realistically, 95% (if not more) of the people on this forum will have achieved that and further qualifications and therefore it is a greatly misrepresented sample. I personally put above average intelligence and averagely happy, whether that be true is rather subjective, you need a set of test questions which there is an even distribution across to actually show it. Recent studies also show that having a high income doesn't make you any happier and as long as you have enough for the basic necessities and aren't in any financial trouble then your happiness doesn't increase vastly, this maybe due to having to work longer to gain the money or not thinking you are reaching your full potential or the job causing you more stress amongst other reasons.
  5. Even if you don't doing that just drawing the idea in the shape of a diagram normally helps a lot because you will be able to remember what it looked like and then you will have a grounding by knowing everything that is there, you just have to remember what the items are called.
  6. Truth normally comes out when you are drunk, also your personality does. You blame him for not telling you, but you seem to have a hatred for the fact you could be gay or bi-sexual, put in his position would you tell yourself. I can't see how if you knew him for 3 years you didn't know he was bi-sexual. To be honest if you are drunk you still know if you like guys or girls and if a guy goes to kiss you and you don't want to you will stop them. That is a good point, I have never really thought of it in that way before.
  7. I have to agree, you are grouping people into archetypes that really make no sense as surely if you are part of 2 archetypes and there enough people like that that would create another intermediate one, which would have an intermediate precise description and then of course you would have people in between the new one and one of the old ones, meaning there are hundreds of groups to classify people, which really tell you nothing as with knowledge of the subject you should be able to come to the same conclusions without the extra step of grouping them That is beside the fact that some of your definitions are the opposite of the meaning such as the hero where as others relate directly to them for instance the wise old man.
  8. The only way I could think anything like that would happen under normal circumstances is the symbiotic bacteria in the gut, conjugating with foreign bacteria and transferring resistance plasmids, however you could never prove that is what caused it the infection, or that is where the resistant strain of the bacteria came from. If you have "toxins" in your gut I think it would most likely cause any bacteria to lysis.
  9. Not really, the main thing the primary structure will show is its evolutionary relationship to other proteins, however certain areas will have large quantities of polar or non-polar amino acids as well areas will these alternating which may give you an incite into the structure or placement in the protein.
  10. How do you even define desirable, it is a subjective concept, then there is the fact you haven't even said what course you are aspiring to take, which means any results to the poll are rather meaningless.
  11. Seems a bit dodgy to me when something like this happens, it just proves they don't have enough data and research on the brain to be doing this and at some point it will go wrong that's if it already hasn't.
  12. For that you need to get the chemical in question, work out its mass, divide that by its atomic weight to find the amount of moles then dissolve that in a know amount of deionised water to make the solution. Serial dilutions are just diluting a solution repeatedly by the same factor. It can be used before plating bacteria, so you would make serial dilutions and then plate them out on agar and one will give you a plate with a viewable amount of bacteria (not to many not to little) so you can see what it contains, you can then scale this amount up again to find out how much is in the solution and what species they are.

    downs syndrome

Because it isn't an inherited disorder, it is due to an imperfection in meiosis creating a gamete with an extra chromosome 21, it could occur at any time to anyone. Due to chromosome 21's small nature it means viable offspring can still occur whereas with larger chromosomes they have to0 many genes controlling too many functions that the offspring can't survive. Other problems can occur with multiple X chromosomes such as Poly X syndrome or Klienfelters syndrome.
  14. Indeed, plus only small molecules can be absorbed by the gut, pepsin isn't the only enzyme that the hydrolyses the polypeptides there are many in the process of digestion.
  15. Depending of the size of the dump, they might however collecting and transfering the gas normally costs more than it is worth to do anything with it so they just burn it off.
  16. If there was something that didn't destroy the clothes don't you think someone would sell it or washing powder companies would intergrate it into there products.
  17. In evolution, things happen because of mutations in the dna and therefore some feature is created that means that the new organism has an advantage over other, however what i don't understand is that with a complex structure like the eye how would it form, as surely it would take mutiple mutations of the genetic code and just one of them would be useless to the organism and would actually make it worse off therefore meaning it would be at a disadvantage over others of the same speices. This would mean that the animal is killed more easily and won't pass on that information to the next speicies so a structure like the eye would never get a chance to develop. Can anyone explain how it could happen due to evolution? Even a surface that can detect light would be a giant leap from any other surface, so i don't really understand how that could be the answer.
  18. Elephants do it to, they just starve to death if one of there family dies, hence why when culling elephants, they have to kill whole families.
  19. It won't take over, just look at using a microphone to send the message to the computer and then it comes out as text, it doesn't work very well and hardly anyone uses it.
  20. Yes, but as long as the GDP of the universe rises at a larger percentage than it we will all be better off.

    Teen Repelent

I'm 16 i the only way i could hear it is if i turned it up to about 20 on my speaker, and if i was playing music 20 would mean you could easily here the music from 100 meters away.
  22. ... *Shakes head in discust* In is the cumulative number of people watch over the whole tournament, so each person can be counted more than once.
  23. Hypnosis doesn't work in the way everyone thinks it does, it won't suddenly give you access to your sub-concious mind, it is way over hyped on TV and doesn't work like that at all. You write about what is on your mind at the time, it is the same with song writing.

    RealPlayer

I posted a link that can change them to any format you want, don't see why it should do that anyway though, however real player is awful.

    RealPlayer

How would re-naming files mean a media player can't use them........... Unless it has changed the file format and then download that and you can change the file format to whatever you like, probally take a few hours to do though.
