Whether or not the subpoena is the result of a criminal act is completely irrelevant (and it may be a criminal act; preventing prosecutors from doing their work may very well be obstruction of justice, secondly some of the papers that where subpoenaed where about the warrantless wire taping fiasco). United States Vs Nixon was a Supreme Court case in which the court ordered Nixon to comply with a subpoena. Basically what the court said is that the laws of the United States apply just as much to the President of the United States as they apply to John Doe(granted a few more laws apply to the president which give him squirmy little loop holes). I think H2O’s talking about something like CaCO3+2NaOH=>Na2CO3+Ca(OH)2. But then you have to deal with getting the NaOH or other strong base plus you have massive amounts of Na2CO3 to get rid of. Mining the strong base AND the calcium would be even worse. In the end you should just plant some trees.

Yes but your Ca(OH)2 was most likely produced via CaCO3=>CaO+Co2 then CaO+2H2O=>CaOH2. When you absorb CO2 all your doing is a time tested way of making CaCO3. The CO2 reacts with H2O to make carbonic acid H2CO3 which reacts with the Ca(OH)2 via Ca(OH)2+H2CO3=>CaCO3+H2O nothing new. In the end the mining of the CaCO3 and converting it to CaO(most likely using a nat gas furnace) would emit more CO2 then you could consume with the Ca(OH)2

No…sulfur is an odd chemical being in the same periodic group as oxygen it is an oxidizer as in the classic reaction of powdered sulfur with iron filings(S + Fe + ->FeS). But it can also act as a reducer when exposed to a more powerful oxidizer such as KClO3 the reaction there being 2KClO3+3S->3SO2 + 2KCl. When you talk about a “secondary oxidizer” your probably thinking of the simplified explanation of black powder.

I think you may have read a web site on the pyrotechnic uses for KClO4 (thou I’ve never herd of it being used as a chlorine donor). Any way electrolysis (with no z ) is very simple(at least for these purposes) : it oxidizes the anion. So if you want KClO3 use Kcl.

I was referring to the whole terrorism paranoia in general. And I consider war crimes more akin to the USSR then America. What the US basically did was pluck people from Afghanistan for looking suspicious then hold them on some godforsaken rock with out charges and “interrogate” (torture )them. In doing so they have turned formerly friendly or neutral people into terrorists and now were fighting them in Iraq and there threatening to take back Afghanistan! All in all Guantanamo, Abu Grab and whatever secret prisons are out there serve only as giant recruiting posters for the enemy. Domestic legal rights are a completely different issue that would make a good discussion.
