Infinite amount of time anything is possible?
Mike Smith Cosmos replied to Yoseph's topic in Speculations
.Going from absolutely nothing , to something , there must be an infinite amount of time available in principle otherwise it would remain , absolutely nothing . However the scale of time , at the nothing condition , does not then exist ? As indeed does any other scale for that matter ( like size ) . Is that not so ? Mike -

I think one of the paradigm changes required to make this stretch to a possible new physics , is to explore the areas up in the clouds figuratively. A Top down approach , as another way of exploring new physics solutions. As illustrated by the hand reaching up to the cloud. Rather than looking for principles built up from fields, waves particles ALL built one on top of another from some fundamental quantum region at the very small. Maybe a new island of endeavour could come from the larger classical world stretching back from the Top Down , looking more for the possibility to happen , coming up from the quantum small . An evidence for this is the " natural selection process " within the environment of living things. There are other examples where the pressure of things coming up from the quantum level , meet the restrictions of the larger classical environment , with the result of a ' product ' , unlikely without the restrictions of the larger classical environment . . Stretch ... More and more thinkers are trying hard to make ' that leap of ideas ' to reach a clearer picture of the universe. Hence all this interest in " a theory of everything. Even Stephen Hawkins stars in a film just released in the UK. called:- .. theory of everything. .. Others talk of ' clarifying the picture of nature ' We just need to stretch that little bit further .. Mike -

I think there is a case for recognising the nature, shape, direction , and other features of space at discrete locations. What is at issue here is the philosophical, and mental model , we individually harbour , as to the real nature of space ( an empty void or a complex structure of fields and disturbances ) But I do recognise this is ZVBYRPL's thread . I have , believe it it not , been trying to support him , not hijack . I do think Wilczek's comments , to some extent ,support ZVBYRPL's ideas. Mike
-
I think his comments are clear enough . ( 4 for emphasis ) If he. ( Frank Wilczek ) has this relevant understanding of the model , complete with the description as well as the maths, how can WE argue with that . Mike

.O.k. But I am only quoting Frank Wilczek's word " Disturbance " as the effect of energy to create particles. I will double check , but I am sure that is what he was saying :- Here is following 3 minute interview . Here his description of particles of the standard model , as being " disturbances " in the fields which Themselves . " ARE SPACE ," which itself is the Primary Reality included in the maths behind this reality. Link :- Mike

.Could this possibly be, because we are so accustomed to thinking of things as separate entities ( eg particles, groups, lumps etc ) . Could we possibly fall into the " Goldfish perception trap " , . Namely that the goldfish in the tank, or fish in the sea for that matter. See themselves as entities drifting endlessly about in nothingness, not seeing the water supporting them , but only the " Things " , they come across. Eg a particle of grit, a group of stones, a Hugh lump of granite under the sea, but nonetheless the vast open spaces , seem as nothing. In reality, the sea or goldfish aquarium are very much an integrated continuous systems . I think this is what is being put forward by ZVBXRPL , and for that matter to a similar extent Wilczek. So with ZVBXRPL's and Wilczek's primary view of reality , it's the things that structure up space , like the fields , are the continuous reality of space ( not in space ) ,that spread out to well ' wherever ' . And it is the disturbance of these fields ( thus disturbances in space ) , by the necessary energy , which creates the ' so named - PARTICLES - and WAVES . of the Standard Model. Mike

Is this not because Nobel prize winners and many other famous scientists, have written books to explain their unique perception of how they have grown to accept their genuine interpretation of a particular view of a science related subject. Have they not been moved by an inner drive to explain their inner interpretations . Also , a famous mathematician or physicist once said , something to the effect .... ... " if you jumped off the back of a bus, and spoke to the first person, stranger they came across, and explained their deeply held theory or interpretation . If unable to explain , concisely and understandably ..... Then it is most likely , they do not understand the subject themselves ! " So many scientists who write popular science , I believe , they feel they have a perception that they understand well and are able to explain , simply and understandably their subject. This interpretation by Frank Wilczek , has a close link to ZVBXRPL. 's ideas in some respects. Mike

.No but , if I am understanding what Wilczec is saying , then we are Not talking of space as being ' Gaps' .but rather that fields ( described by the Maths ) are the primary reality that .. IS ..Space . Not gaps between things . Space a continuous entity not Gaps ! I think that is what he( ZVBXRPL and Wilczek ) are saying . Have a listen to Wilczek . Mike
-
Surely Not , if the matter particles are merely " disturbances " in the fields, as Wilczek is saying . The standard model is Not primary reality ! He is saying ( in his interview quoted above on you tube . " particles are NOT primary building blocks , but Fields are primary building blocks ! He goes on to say that the fields are what space IS , everywhere . That they are the primary reality " " And the maths says it is that way , in conjunction with our minds and imagination we perceive things as they really are ! " Eek ! Mike
-
ZVBXRPL Is supported in his theory by Frank Wilczek , if the terminology is translated across . From Wilczek to ZVBXRPL. Says Wilczek ::- Space Is the Primary Reality . Professor Frank Wilczek . The Search for the Theory of Everything. He is saying fields fill space everywhere ( continuum ) . The primary reality everywhere. Particles of the standard model , are NOT the primary reality " but merely a disturbance in the fields ." I think we need to take seriously what ZVBXRPL Is saying Mike

.ZVBXRPL. I think you might be touching on something Frank Wilczek was trying to explain in his Book "The Lightness of being " . He called this continuum ' The Grid ' . . He won a Nobel prize for Quark behaviour. " Asymtotic freedom ' . So he should have some idea what he is talking about ! . Notice this naturally occurring composition . The maths and science of the Renaissance artists integrated into art . Particularly the golden sections :- I mean look at this particular aspect of the countryside here in Devon, Cullompton ( North of Exeter ) This scene can inspire. This I found to be true on two occasions, when I asked passers by " are you an artist? " on both occasions they said by Sirendipody " yes , why do you ask ? " quite incredulously they viewed the scene and said " how extraordinary " . One of the persons ( artist ) said she would rush off and paint it! . . . Even a Heron has landed on the ' golden section ' 3 /8 down 5/8 up also, 5/8 across , 3/8 in ( art speak ) Link to golden Section :- http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_ratio Mike

Klaynos Very funny! This farmer has spent many years harbouring this knowledge. Including nursing this picture of him as a younger man . In desperation he has come to me , lest his secret dies with him , as he has no offspring , as far as I can ascertain. I have just telephoned him , no response yet ! However he is a regular visitor to the town . And seeks me out. There are these people about , and we need to nurse their ideas into the public arena , lest they be lost. I mean look at the countryside here in Cullompton , it is enough to inspire any thinking farmer , to great ideas . Even an Heron has landed on the ' golden section ' 3 /8 down 5/8 up also, 5/8 across , 3/8 in ( art speak ) Mike

Physica I am not sure how you set up a Blogg? I appreciate your comment. However I do have a ' Speculating ' side to me, which is almost endemic in my learning process. I am very happy to dismiss speculation that turns out to be false, but equally pleased to grow in understanding of a subject if it is not yet proved false. ( sort of trial and error process) , which I believe is one of the disparate natures of the cosmos. An inbuilt negative feedback , stabilising ,process. Mike -
We need to understand the geography of invention , and innovation. Down here in the West Country , particularly Devon and Cornwall has a good history of inventors . Newcomen , with invention of the Newcomen engine led the birth of the industrial revolution, a steam pump draining the tin mines of Cornwall. Devon, hosted the Elmhursts who started a revolutionary method of farming , and education. Darlington Hall became a focus to this day , to leading new and innovative method. ( including Schuamacher " small is beautiful . The. Schumaker college had its home at Darlington. In recent years Guy Watson ,started Riverford Farm , with organic vegetables delivered to local homes, now it is a national distributor of organic vegetables. Up until recently , James Lovelock was a resident of Devon . He the inventor of the Gia Hypothesis , led the field in warning of the mistreatment of the Earth as an environment. And the list , goes on . Our Farmer " Richard Pratt " similarly pioneered a method for producing Unsaturated fat beef meat, where the effects on eating ,where, it is described above . " walking on air" as opposed to " sleepiness . I will interview him more so as to get further information . Please do not dismiss the original thought ,going on in Devon and Cornwall. I think it is the fresh air, sunny beaches and rural life that has inspired many a west country , entrepreneur and inventor! Mike Despite the fact there are two agricultural colleges in Devon . Bicton College and Seal Hayne ( now Plymouth University ) , many of the research Universities lay further up the country ,at the university cities like London, Oxford, Cambridge , Durham etc . However the pioneering research is done in Wellington boots , the clarty fields and on sheep populated moors

Devon UK. Farmer - Richard Pratt ( on his Farm at Plymtree , Cullompton, North of Exeter ), bread live animals which consisted of beef ' of an Unsaturated Fat nature . ' In today's health climate this is a major break through ! He reports eaters of the beef , arise from their meal and 'walk on air ' , whereas other diners eating a meal of beef containing saturated fat , feel ' drowsy ' and ' dose easily ' ! . If this attribute could be introduced ' he says ', into the main herds . . . " Eating beef could take on , new heathy wakeful aspects ! " Mike

A BBC news identifies a recent discovery in Hugh volumes of fresh water under the continental crust ! Courtesy of one of my colleagues in the U3A Geology group Exeter Devon .UK Link :- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-30527357 It is estimated as " Researchers estimate there is about 11m cubic kilometres (2.5m cu miles) of it - more water than all the world's rivers, swamps and lakes put together."
