  1. Not quite sure what you mean . !!!!!!!! I am suggesting that we do not necessarily need a Large Hadron collider , or A Giga Giga fast Computer simulation to model a small or Big , or very specific , aspect of the Universe. ( Rather a bench top experiment ) [ Bring back Bench top experiments, then we can all have a Go ] We could get a 5 Kgm Weight on the end of a 16 metre rope. Swing it around in the middle of a football pitch, ( with people well clear ) to get a good model picture and feel of what either the Galaxy or even the universe feels like as it rotates. !!!! Dark Matter and all !!! As the radius and mass change the rotation changes. Galaxy size we are up to one rotation in a million or so years. Notice, [ should you conduct the experiment] how slowly the revolutions are as radius increases and mass increases ( as you try to feel and maintain a functioning circular rotation , as indeed the galaxy needs to maintain its integrity . With dark matter ) ( the proof of dark matter in a bench top or playing field experiment enables us to feel , in principle at least ) - FEEL THE FORCE - True to get a quantitative answer, we would need to invoke a mathematical model in order to cloth the experiment with numerical answers . [ eg m v squared /r = m g , F = G m1 m2/r squared etc ] mike WILL THE OWNER OF THE ( -1 ) STEP FORWARD AND BE COUNTED . So at least I can see who you are . Thank you ! ps. I am sorry for grammatical errors. It took me 5 attempts to get GCE English to ultimately get into university. [ In the end successful ]. I do care , very much , please excuse me .
  2. We , have in the past made models by constructing a wooden model. Say a ships hull to move through water in a tank to model drag and float. What might we wish to model of the universe that we could test with say a wooden or metal model ? This may only be able to model one small part of reality , but it could be meaningful. mike
  3. First research ,shows talk of inland shallow seas at the heart of the supercontinent before it split. Rivers are said to feed these shallow seas, where warm shallow waters allow algae to flourish. ( red and green algae) . Note the feed river in my artists impression has hints of red ,green and yellow . Also note the major outflow in the distance . ( possibly toward the ocean surrounding the supercontinent ) The second picture shows a partially ,dried up river inflow to the shallow sea.[ Mike
  4. A morsel of information about ancient rivers and seas in Pennsylvania of today Courtesy of ROCK DOCTOR Pennsylvania Rivers Shown on the Map (in alphabetical order): The Allegheny River, Beaver River, Clarion River, Conemaugh River, Conewago Creek, Conodoguinet Creek, Delaware River, French Creek, Juniata River, Lackawanna River, Lackawaxen River, Lehigh River, Loyalsock Creek, Mahoning Creek, Monongahela River, Ohio River, Penns Creek, Pine Creek, Raystown Branch Juniata River, Redbank Creek, Schuylkill River, Susquehanna River, Swatara Creek, West Branch Susquehanna River and Youghiogheny River. ---------------------------------////---------------INLAND SEAS. AND RIVERS --------------------///--------- Before the ancient supercontinent Pangea collided with then separated from Africa, most of Pennsylvania was covered by an inland sea coming in from the West. This sea slowly retracted, leaving continuous land broken by rivers and their tributaries and ponded areas. --------------------------------///----------------------------- -------------------- Particularly Pennsylvania http://freepages.school-alumni.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~florian/rockdoctor/geography/rivers/pa-rivers.html Also More generally http://magdale.co.uk/page32/styled-5/styled-7%20mountain%20building/index.html And. 5. I would like to speculate,:- That although REALITY itself is absolute, (Full Stop! ). It is , or can be, modelled by a host of different means, for different purposes. Pictorially ! By Language ! By mathematics ! By physical constructed models! By Computer simulation! And no doubt a host of other types of models I have not mentioned yet. We might be tempted to feel that one or two or three sorts of models are better or more important ,than any other? Might it encourage a better understanding if we used either a single specific model , a set selection of models or as many models as possible, so as to focus on a detail of reality OR , in order to gain a ' a wider , a more complete , or valuable ' insight into ' the nature of REALITY ? In so doing we might thus view reality in the way we use different magnification in the use of various microscope lenses. For example: 1). A model of an atomic particle in motion, is probably best modeled with maths, and maybe some illustration. However 2) The whole planet earth is probably best modeled by James Lovelock's model The Gia Hypothesis and computer simulation models . 3) The Universe ......Well there is a something to model ...... . Mike
  6. LOCATION, DIRECTIONS, TRAJECTORY, SPEED , DESTINATION. Heathrow Airport international, bus and plane Terminal. Planes, buses, persons going in/with, :- The same starting locations, different directions, different trajectories, different speeds, different destinations Mike
  7. Well, That is ONE person thinks we are being OBSERVED from a higher being. That gives me a bit of encouragement ! Mike
  8. Yes , I will do some research, and see what I can gather.! -------------- .STORY .. I think my past research exploration into the Pre -cambrian was tough.. As a ficticious adventure :- ---------------- ...But I need to return ,by more research, to find the foundations of these ancient Rivers. Mike ..
  9. O.K. But with the huge landmasses locked together ,as they were. Even though as you say there were not the current mountains, I suppose there would thus be more desserts . But any evaporating moisture would have precipitated somewhere. or was it like the planet Venus with general cloud everywhere? Even though not following existing river courses, would the rain not have flowed some where and cut great valleys, and may not some of these be in part in some of the river courses of say :- the Missisipee, rhine, thames,,congo, nile, yucon ,collerado the russian river that flows north Etc Etc [ spellchecker gone in to overload] . Those or it , supercontinent were vast land masses collecting a lot of water to run somewhere ? Say looking at these pebble beds at Budleigh Salterton , was there possibly a big river flowing down what is now the English Chanel ? Then much further south. ? As part of Pangaea. Supercontinent name Age (Ga: billions of years ago, Ma: millions of years ago) Ur (Vaalbara) ~3.6-2.8 Ga Kenorland ~2.7-2.1 Ga Protopangea-Paleopangea ~2.7-0.6 Ga Columbia (Nuna) ~1.8-1.5 Ga Rodinia ~1.25-0.75 Ga Pannotia ~600 Ma Pangaea ~300 Ma Above taken from wikipedia article on Supercontinents re Opheolite reference mike
  10. Well thanks a bundle ! What happened to the fond memories of you and I , and others having pleasant anecdote style conversations about art, number etc not so long ago , yet tying it all in to good science . . . The days of pleasantness . Mike You will have the moderators on our backs for conversation rather than subject matter .
  11. I have reported it to the management. What actually is it about this subject, that makes you want to close down one of the most beautiful areas of discussion about the universe. Namely , the order , beauty, perfection, and a thousand and one other things that show the WONDER of NATURE ,and what I would attempt to possibly show if given the space and quiet , It's CLEVERNESS . Mike Now kindly refrain from showering your -1's on someone who I thought was a friend !
  12. Another one is symmetry . The bumble bee apparently uses symmetry as a means of guiding itself to the flower, to the honey, and indirectly to the pollen . Another of ( in our time by Melvyn Bragg and recognised scientists discussing this . However the BBC site seems to have crashed temporarily. Maybe demand ) . A colleague and I were discussing this subject the other day. Why do women like flowers so much.? And so do bumble bees., and we like the women. We as males like the women , who are very curved and symmetrical . They spend a lot of time and money to look symmetrical . They like the flowers partly because they are so symmetrical and beautiful. They like us if we give them flowers. . There is something there! Everybody is happy ###############. except me #######. for someone slapping a ( -2 )rep point on so hastily ) this really is a misuse on the speculation forum . You are making it impossible to have a discussion. You may as well go around poking everyone in the eye when you disagree with them or they with you . Kindly refrain, particularly as this is a cowards way , as you are hidden behind anonymity ! ################### ####################. ################# ############# Bunters .. Whoever you are , you are sick. Go and get some treatment ! THIS REALLY IS DISGRACEFUL YOU ARE MAKING A MOCKERY OF THE IDEA OF A FORUM. YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN OUT OF THE GREAT DEBATING CIRCLES OF HISTORY WITH SOCRATES AND PLATO AND ARISTOTLE GO AND PLAY IN A THUGS PLAYGROUND . WHERE YOU CAN GO AROUND SMASHING UP KIDDIES TOYS . AND STEALING SWEETS OFF KIDS . YUCK YOU MAKE ME WANT TO BE ILL. Mike
  13. Entropy , the War. http://www.scienceforums.net/uploads/monthly_05_2014/post-33514-0-77826700-1401546427.jpg The battle lines are drawn . The Big Bang . Top left . Shows the outflow of energy, light and matter . The universe is born and the distribution continues , unabated . By entropy ,more and more energy gets put beyond reach. Fighting back are the forces of regeneration. Bottom right. Life ,gravity, and an ever open system , fighting upward and outward on a journey to fill the universe. The battle can be seen raging in the dark sky above . Mid picture. Where a trillion trillion ,suns ,planets , and space wage their relentless fight . Mike
  14. Were the war for order to have an extended front, such that life and other regenerative systems , such as gravity causing star building and life causing terra forming or the equivalent, throughout the universe. Maybe the war against entropy could be balanced.? Mike
  15. So I am trying to understand what happened to all the contents of the amazon and the Congo , went before Pangea split . Were they combined to be a super massive river flowing in to the Tethys sea .?
  16. Entropy , the War. . . .mike
  17. i have taken another shot of the picture closer up . should be less blurred. Ladram Bay Picture :- Maybe the monolith was slightly buried in sand at its base, and the weight made it lean over a bit. The people in a semi circle were certainly looking interested ! Mike
  18. This discussion of the laws of thermodynamics gives both sides of the view of positive and negative entropy and regenerative processes. Link.:- is from BBC ' iIn our time by. Melvin Bragg' ' Second law of thermodynamics ' Link :-http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p004y2bm This is 40 mins , But is worth listening to, with recognized scientists Discussing . This includes cars, steam engines, Big Bang , suns , background radiation, gravity, Carnot, lord kelvin, Evolution , life etc Illustration of. " The war between positive and negative entropy ." Mike.
  19. I have it now :- William Bryant Link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Cullen_Bryant Mike ... no this is William Cullen Bryant
  20. You are quite right , although it was not planned ,when I painted it in the row boat. The speed I did the painting made me use the 'carrot' shape for people on the beach placed randomly , however when I enlarge the picture with my I pad , sure enough it does look like the monolith from 2001 with people looking in a semi circle from the left . " Maybe we are due the next monolith, as per 2001 a space Odessy " to take us up a notch as per Arthur c Clark " ' I think I may nip down to labran bay and have a quick look , just in case ' Mike
  21. Well , now there is a thing ! The purpose in doing the experiment , on either side of the Atlantic , at the same time . Same day 9. Am NY Eastern time , 2 pm uk. Time 25 the May 2014 , This was , among other things , was to see if the experiment was repeatable , by 2 different persons either side of the Atlantic Ocean . And in principle the experiment is/ was . I had exactly the same type of results in principle except with a different subject. ( different question ) . In both cases as Tar and I compared results over the week end , we were amazed at the correlation , despite different subjects and different locations. This has led us to an early conclusion , that the human brain is able to get " In Tune " with the universe, as in fact we are a very clever part of that said universe. This , even at this early stage of experimentation , has produced a repeatable result. Pictorial illustration of the human brain being . .------- . . In tune .-----. With the universe Mike
  22. I am sorry , I am not wishing to cause distress , but this is a very pivotal issue that I certainly Do want , to eschew obfuscation with regard to this particular point. Mike
  23. NO That is just a difference of definition and opinion. No apology . Our position still stands. That is if Tar is still standing , he was at the last count. Also No . Because if our proposed aspect regarding Entropy and Generative / Generation, prove to be correct, which certainly by early results , things are looking good. We could be in for a second aspect to argue out. But that may be a while off . It should be encouraging to know that it's possible the universe may not be going to run down like some burnt out candle . In other words there is the makings of a re-generative mechanism in place to avert this. That is of course if we are correct . Mike
