. . . Wow ! You have got to be kidding. My wife will put on my grave stone " him and his "b... " science, cosmos, and everything . " problem is , I genuinely think " science as it is at the moment is ' stuck in a rut ' . It has got totally hung up on rigidity , exactness, predictability, determinism' I believe this is trapping science in an area of knowledge that is limiting progress. The universe is NOT ALL about exactness, predictability, determinism, mathematics. Yes half definitely so ! Otherwise things would fall to bits from having no bedrock , BUT IT IS HALF non deterministic , non-predictable, non exact . That is why it is able to work , because half , or some other fraction , may be 90 percent for all I know , or 10 % but it is staring us in the FACE , it is working from another prospective . IF IT WORKS, KEEP IT, IF IT DOES NOT , DO NOT KEEP IT trial and error, feedback, MOULD ORIENTATED, that's what I am trying to say with all this ISLAND , mumbo jumbo , we need to get off the island, not that the island is not home . It is , it is bed rock , but there is so much more to discover OUT THERE . I am screaming at everyone COME ON THERE IS SO MUCH OUT HERE , but many think that I have gone off my trolley. The bed rock is fine 90 percent of scientists are beavering away on it BUT Many REFUSE to say to themselves there is another sort of science existing out there , that is NON deterministic, PROBABLEISTIC, BASED on , trial and error , they give lip service to it with statistics , but that is not enough , I am sorry to go on about it . But it is staring us in the face , but we ( majority of scientists ) will not let go of this " NO exactness not science , no maths not science, no exact predictions not science ". We have built up a modern world , that will crack , because it is not adaptive enough, bit like the dinosaurs , too big , it took the little mammals to take another tack to survive . Science must adapt to survive. This is heresies to a lot of maths based , deterministic, predictive scientists. I am fully aware , and reaping their ire . I have been trying to hint at it. But many just think I am luny tunes. Give us the maths, give us the predictions. That's the very thing , the other half of science DOES NOT WORK ON , non Mathematical, non predictive , non deterministic . BUT ..FLEXIBLE, ADAPTIVE, EMERGENT . USING THE MOULD OF THE UNIVERSE THAT IS ALREADY IN EXISTENCE . HELP ! Is there anybody out there . I can see land , but I am sinking fast ! Mike

Well you explain when NOW is and HOW WIDE is it ? And is it the same as the Universe's NOW ? and where is it . NOW. here? Over in the andromeda constellation, everywhere ? Is there a universal now, going on everywhere RIGHT NOW. .? Mike

Yes , I have heard this several times before, from friends who say , they bang there head against the pillow three times before they go to sleep, if they want to get up at three. I can't see we can be that precise. And when I found out that modern brain reaction research has shown and proved that decisions are made fractions of a second or even seconds before we, our [wide awake] conscious experience is telling us we made a particular experience, I was amazed. We appear to be following along ,being wide awake conscious after the event . In other words , our unconscious self is sort of doing a bit of living ahead of the ( what we think of as Conscious) seeing the story after it has occurred by a little bit . .. mike

The explanation does give an interesting possible insight into what quite "NOW " Actually is ! Hi DTones. Firstly , it is worth thinking on what is going on out there in the big wide universe. If our knowledge to date is correct , which it is likely to be pretty well right, what we learned to date. The universe appeared to come out from the Big Bang condition some 13.7 billion years ago. examination by scientists over the last 100 years have shown that the smallest portion of time [ Plank Time ] is approximately 1 millionth,millionth,millionth,millionth,millionth,millionth,of a second [very small time]. So the shortest time anything can change slightly is this very, very, very small time. say something changing in an atom. It happens if we could see it flash,But we can not discern it. But other things change in a larger fraction of a second . These we could see flick. All these flicks represent a change in the state of the universe. If you come forward billions of years you come to today.Now everything has spread out all over the place [the universe]. But all these changes of states of atoms and, stars, and planets and trees and pictures are all changing , position, state, and in other ways. If we could see all these changes ,even around us, let alone the whole of the universe, We would have a bad head, with all these flicking changes. Here comes the ISSUE. Everything is flicking changing all over the place, far,far,far,far more than we can comprehend , let alone SEE. We could say here we are, here you are ,after all this flicking at NOW 10:01 pm 19th May 2014 [ oops its gone by] Now is 10:03 19th May 2014. . The NOW is moving forward, a few more, Trillions of trillions of, Trillions of trillions of, Trillions of trillions of, Trillions of trillions of,changes happening all over the universe. The only way YOU can cope with all these flickings, changes, IS Your conciousness must be selective, very selective. So you can not possibly have All even these local changes around you flick every [ Plank Time , that small number earlier mentioned ] so our consciousness appears to follow the Diagram I have drawn above . namely the NOW is not a Plank flick, but could be spread across this valley of consciousness illustrated above . Namely , it starts a bit in the future { or what we think is the future } , it peaks in a dip that we think is the real NOW { when really the NOW is the whole thing}, and continues on into the fading past { which really is still a part of the whole NOW } . So really this whole spread out conscious experience across this Dip is the Conscious Now. [our NOW] . This is similar to how (Delta.1212)..posted in the multi question thread. However I have to say , what I have described is very much a perception , as We as an individual are conscious of. , or perceive. Now clearly that picture could have fallen off the wall, any time in that overall dip of NOW, also you and your consciousness span the dip. Obviously to different depths of consciousness,and in different perceptions of order. When we are wide awake the whole thing is straight forward, however is still spread across the dip. Now what is happening out there in the big wide universe is a whole new area of consideration, which I am not discussing in this particular answer. What is your conscious dip width is , is your experience of the NOW. How the Universe goes on , flicking change all over the universe , and how wide its Now is , or what is its NOW ,has to be a whole different area of discussion . mike Ps It must be said that the above conclusions have come from both Main stream science as well as speculative ideas. The area of Time, Consciousness, Perception ,sleep, Waking, Memory etc is a highly developmental area of current research. So any ideas expressed above must ONLY be taken as possible explanations for your experiences. Perhaps it is better than nothing , and I must say I have experienced it many times with Alarm clocks set to go off at 3 oclock or 2:30 in the night, say for to catch a plane. I wake up seconds or a fraction of a minute before, then the alarm goes off. Now there is a good subject to make the focus of a question.:- " Is time travel not possible at all " " Forward only " " backward as observer only " [ structured up a bit better. ] As in my last post, I am suggesting we should put out to the 'Maybe other occupants of the universe, which may or may not ' have set up an answering facility like a super glorified universal internet. I gazed down, what looked like an infinitely long corridor tunnel, ...On the walls were side panels, going back in time. Each one was displaying in reverse chronological order, the vast human story. My heart lay not in the past but in that future place that grew as I gazed, There is where, everything I had seen,had gone. skyward I sped, until i had a perspective of all below. The path emanating from the wall, spread out like the veins in a leaf. Weaving, until most of the land was covered in a mosaic ...........of grey,green,white and blue. When I descended to look at a grey area immediately below me, .. I got feelings of immense disquiet. Contrarily, when I sought out and examined an expanding green area, ....this engendered in me happiness and joy. On returning to the wall and the portal or gate from which everything had come, ... I passed over one or two of the dividing points. Here I noticed from my high position a shimmering at each junction. As I descended lower it became apparent that these were in fact, millions of people, meeting, talking, discussing, taking advice, deciding. Many were moving off in different chosen directions, ...others dwelt a while. I returned to my position among the mass of people at the first divide. In view of what I had seen and heard, my mind was already made up. I was going to head out in search of those areas of green and blue. Tar To comment on your various points , I have pulled them out as phrases you used. I would think, that any intelligent species, no matter how advanced WOULD show interest in another Intelligent species . .. ..I do not think talking between one intelligent species to another (even though lesser ) intelligent species. Is a fair comparison to an intelligent species to NON intelligent species. .Well , if you had that experience, you should have caught the opportunity and said " Hi my name is Tar , where are you from ?" . Similar to above about talking to animals ... Now , This is the meat. A More advanced intelligence,, developed ahead of us , if they exist, would have had plenty of time to think it through and research to overcome this [apparently now insurmountable problem ] of being isolated in time and position. If it is able to be overcome by the method I discussed, or another not yet discovered means , then they would have done it by now. and it will right now be ready and waiting. I think it is very significant that the dinosaur era was a grow as big as you can. There is nothing there to stop you growing as big as you like. there is plenty of food to go at. It is unlikely anything would try to bring this beast down. Only gravity and the strength of their support bones was any form of limiting factor. Earlier and later eras were well furnished with predators to keep things lean and mean or keep things hidden and scarce . Even gravity would have quite a job with that leg bone illustrated. mike

Set as the year 1999 turned into 2000... A poem to time and change. MILLENNIUM DAWN ...by. Mike Smith The wall was horrifically large, stretching from horizon to horizon, .......climbing to some 50 miles high, and had a base 15 miles thick. It acted as a bastion, holding back the entire pressure of human history. After a blood curdling clunk, a thin crack of green appeared and outlined where the ....immense gates existed, which were now starting to move . They soon reached the fully open position, resembling a city entrance ....of some long lost civilisation. A massive column of luminescent green light, the dimension of the gate, ....shone out horizontally , speeding far out into the future. It diminished to a needlepoint , as it punctured the black velvet distance. The beam had a slight flicker, seemingly caused by something about to .....come out. I became distracted, as my attention was drawn to a rhythmic thumping, ....penetrating both my feet as well as my ears. Whatever was causing this determined sound now came through the gate. Vast stone piles were being driven down deep in the earth with each thump. A pavement of Egyptian style grandeur was tracing its way forward. It was being laid into the immediate land, ....successively dividing into two directions, as it went. The source of light, now came through the opening, flashing as it did so. It was a huge ,transparent, diamond -like , ellipsoid, floating 3 miles above ....the Earth. Intense darts of light were issuing in different directions, from its sharp edges. These shafts of plasma, when they struck , left the earth to glow with its light .....afterwards. Those firing outwards into the sky, left columns of blue to remain , once the orb ...moved on . Next , to come through the portal was a giant slug like mechanism. It's rear half was coloured grey, leaving a silvery trail as it went. It's front half, on examination, gave off a feel of both promise and of deep hazard . The glittery trail, when viewed up close was clearly the detritus of technology. Liquid crystal displays, nuts, bolts, transistors, resistors, and every manner of ....metal and plastic parts. It sped off into the distance looking for a home. Last to come through the opening was a green aura... It had a much more benign presence . There was song emanating from it, Music , verse, and Dance. As this too glided happily into the future. I became curious as to where all these things were going. Before venturing upwards and out wards, I moved to a vantage point, Where I could see directly in through the open gates. What does it all mean ? +++++++++++++ Recent research has shown ,that the human brain rather than close down when we sleep, it goes into another mode, where an internal communication goes on in the brain to try and digest recently acquired knowledge, and to try and make sence of it, in the light of what we as an individual might already know. Similarly with the internet , no body up in google or anywhere else is working out what we want to know. But. Once we ask a series of questions of the internet , in order to do a little research, the internet responds with possible answers to our questions. With these answers we can form our own new view of things. One only needs to crank this idea up a notch ...the muse.... IF THE UNIVERSE could or is teaming with other intelligent ,knowledgable beings , as a suppose, and were that knowledge be accessable via a BIGGER universal style internet sort of thing . Then if we ask( however one does that ? ) '. the universal internet ' then we could link in to much bigger , profounder type questions. As there should be ( if it existed , or will exist, or does exist , or has existed ) access to a much ,much ,much wider field of information . The muse . . interesting .. I do not think, either I or tar are suggesting time travel is the order of things. Remembering this is the lounge, where sitting back in a lounge chair, having a drink , and nodding off a bit , is often the preoccupation of musing individuals in a lounge, we were reflecting on possible,current and futuristic issues.:- to muse ......dictionary " to think deeply and at length about " If you have an interest in my musings , in our time line, which might be the only one there is , i think we as individuals and our surroundings, move from possible futures, through the fixing present, to the fixed past. [ the past not to be undone, the future in some respects flexible, the present the decision moment. This as you say does not allow , all these 'time travel' anomalies. My vaguest of questions, to just tinker and play with was: Could there exist possibly an orthogonal time line which at all points in our time line ran off at 90 degrees [time wise] which existed,[ ' others' ] could have access at other far places across the universe. By entering ( or having access to ) , this alternative orthogonal time line, I was suggesting communication could be instantaneously available , across vast distances of our space ,with zero time delay in the orthogonal time line . As an analogy, I think of it as ....a north pole expedition setting off for the north pole, facing ice hazzards, gales, ravines, storms, and every adversity imaginable , as the expedition and its members battle onward. Toward an advance expedition already at the north pole.. ( there mobile phones do not work here, anyway wind is howling too much ) How could they communicate in this howling weather, when they could hardly stand up.......Some bright sparks at either end dug down through the ice and looked at each other across clear water under the ice , and sent a light morse code message .as clear as day. So I was proposing the possibility of such a short cut for communication purposes across the vast distances [ which represent time lag of em waves ] , not through water but through this alternative orthogonal time line. [ which may or may not exist ] That was my muse, which if true , could break this isolation problem , without invoking any [ back to the future time travel , which I am NOT proposing ] It would also allow for an already [ more developed than us civilization, existing across the universe somewhere ] , communicating with us instantaneously ,right this very moment now. Yes. I do agree with you on that one . I can not see it would do anything any good whatsoever to be able to re-run things. It would make a mockery and a mess up of everything. So no or yes I agree what has been done has been done , and what has not been done , has not been done I just wondered if there might have been a way of escape from our timeline. I am quite happy either way . I have never been a lover of all this multiverse ,ideas that are popular at the moment. However I can imagine , an ability to somehow step outside ,from being in the flow of time ( our time , that is ) . I do not particularly want to die , but I imagine if I die tomorrow , i will not be in this time line , and will not see the sun rise the following day ? But the sun will rise the following day . I will have stepped out of the time line , even if I have stepped into oblivion ( so to speak ) . But whether it is possible , or rather if it could be discovered a method to step outside our time line yet still remain alive, ? I do not know . Maybe you are right . But if someone in another galaxy or deeper within our galaxy , could somehow step outside the main time line JUST TO ENABLE COMMUNICATION . Then I think ,that would be a good thing . If communications and/or travel are going to always be limited to a maximum of the speed of light , we will be forever trapped, pretty well into an area quite small in the universe. ( both by communications and travel - quite lonely ) If on the other hand, we can contemplate somehow , in the future, finding a way to leave the confines of the limiting speed of electro magnetic waves, not so much by reaching ever more incredible speed but rather by penetrating a possible orthogonal time dimension, [namely a different time dimension at 90 degrees to the timeline running out from the big bang through our present day some 13.7 billion years on into the future. ] . Were such a dimension to exist, and we were able to gain access to it. we would be able to communicate instantly across the entire universe. Then by some means travel may also in the future be possible in that dimension, but maybe not (only maybe by proxy ) . The down time line is our timeline (Big Bang through 13.7 billion years and on) The orthogonal time line is at 90 degrees across the top , and this time line moving down as our time progresses. A big IF ... IF.. now a previous civilisation , ahead of us , has already discovered, and/ penetrated this suggested orthogonal dimension, . They will already have this capability! So I am back to a comment a couple of posts ago. Where are they ? , and if they are silently there , here, how can we encourage them to talk ? I refer back to previous reasoning , that it would be unlikely that they would force communication on us. We need to start the ball rolling , should we be interested or inclined so to do. ** .... An example of a brilliant achievement of a system impregnated with maths and science found in nature is GEOTROPISM ( positive - down ) ( negative - up ) the following of gravity lines into and upwards from the Earth. At 90 degrees to the horizontal . Bent into line by the hormone AUXIN Here the Euclidean geometry offering the z axis is captured by the plants ( trees and grass ) via gravity. This Is accomplished within the cells of the plants by the growth hormone AUXIN http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravitropism When seen in the context of free standing water, we see the other axis of the Cartesian or Euclidian geometry . This time the ( X, Y ) Plane . So ,this observation , shows how , nature was already there in geometry before ever any written or described coordinate system was written down , or spoken of. ( be they light, radiation , atomic particles , matter, objects , etc ) A] Could think of a view from above looking down on two islands, boat out to sea, Sees a way through like Magellan, between the islands, to a new land of wonder beyond. B] Could be a light in the sky, shining between clouds to the world beneath.. C] Could be an illustration of a Sub atomic particle, somehow seeing its way through, by some energy change, or quantum tunneling , to a new state beyond otherwise insurmountable potentials. I appreciate ,all that you say , which is sort of fair comment.. BUT I am not singing from the same hymn sheet . A lot of very well qualified mathematicians including ABJ , are beavering away in maths , which is absolutely essential. BUT we are not all plumbers, mechanics , electricians ,whatever. If you need someone to operate on a dying man, none are these artisans are any use. I genuinely believe you need people like me , not just me , 4000 of me's to fly high in the lithosphere to see if there is anything there we can use on a dying world , All very symbolic , you need to understand . I vowed to myself , to fly high in my latter years and take a perspective on .. Quantum theory, Einstein, emergence, lovelock , maths ( yes maths , I have just got half way through Mark Tegmarks book. String theory , quarks, higgs, astronomy etc etc and see what I see. Today , I picked up TRESPASSING ON EINSTEIN's LAWN by Amanda Gefter one of you guys recommended it. She is was a writer in the English New Scientist. Her book is about interviews with John Archibald Wheeler ..at his symposium ' science and ultimate reality ' Stephen Hawkins , etc one conference was agenda " the really big questions that dr wheeler loves will be on the table when prominent scientists gather here to honor his symposium ' with the soft spoken...Ed Whitton etc ... The point being , I am by far not the only one , who sees other processes afoot in the universe , such as emergence, that transcend conventional maths as we know it. Not that maths is not present , but other issues arise that need to be thought about. We are talking about maths being like the car and it's workings . But where is the car going, where did it actually come from , what is its purpose. Etc etc of course someone needs to keep the car running . But what is it for, why is it .... Etc etc. ( figurative car of course ) . The answers may be in the way the whole thing really works, functions , traces of history, deep history , deep meaning, deep structure,top down in addition to bottom up, deep origin ,blue sky things . Grad and Curl . to mathematically describe Wave propagation. [ All three dimensions Complex numbers ] And all the TRANSFORMS . But she made my head hurt. So I fell out of love with her. I still love her from a distance . As long as she does not get too close ! In fact as I said before , I do respect she holds HALF the universe together [ only HALF ] . She won that half as her part of our divorce settlement ! "..... SPECIFIC PREDICTION ..that is ok . We can make a specific prediction ,that something is not there now, but will be there / here soon . If we define in words what it is we want to be there . We clearly need to seek out a free venue for the arrival site. Equally we need to seek out the space for both the arrival tube and the destination site. I need to remember that these tubes or pathways are often " paths of least resistance" I may first describe a recent predictive version of the above , then conduct a fresh one after set up (initiative, opportunity tube / track , happening . ) Then you can judge whether this is a valid SPECIFIC PREDICTION .
