Whether I think these things or not. I deliberately have not mentioned these , why ? Because ,historically it seems that , it is like lifting a piece of galvanised iron sheet that has been left covering some waste land for some time. On first lifting , a myriad of ants and various creatures are exposed , who immediately flee for cover in every direction . Its as if their sensitivity to light and exposure is too great. within seconds , they have gone to ground. So it seems , can be the response of many scientists, to the issue i raised., That of the origin of the universe in all its magnitude and magnificence came . ...from some form of cleverness or from absolutely Nothing What I was saying was that . I can think of a point that was an absolute Nothing and now there is the Grand Universe [that I have mentioned several times. ] I find it common sense that , some form of cleverness, in fact I would think a great deal of clever systems that must have been active to convert .. absolute Nothing to a Grand Universe . And that must be beyond human endevour ( super Human). Now Whatever this :- . Well what I was trying to say ,using Man, as a collective word for 'men and women'. From the dawn of civilisation man has looked up at the starry sky ( usually at night ) , though also in the day , with the sun , and marvelled at the magnitude, majesty, splendour , beauty, brilliance and a thousand other expletives, until about 150 years ago .and his (his and hers ) conclusion was, that there was something much bigger, much more intelligent, much more knowledgable than the men and women he/she saw running about the earth. Suddenly all scientists are running for cover at the very hint, at the idea our forefathers had entertained for thousands of years. Yet we look up at those starry heavens, with vastly more detailed images than available to our forefathers and yet start getting the gitters at the hint of anything superhuman ( namely greater than human) being there. And rather opting for. 'Absolutely NOTHING' being responsible for what we see in even greater depth than our ancestors. If it is because of the investigations of the Beagle ship and one of its travellers, Charles Darwin. He was over off South America to investigate the ' Uplift of land strata ( as he was a geologist ) caused by earthquakes. He witnessed one such earthquake and uplift of land and concluded that the Andes were formed that way. While there he noticed things about the species and came up with a theory on the origin of species. A bit like a speculation. Scientists now still are running for cover, do we think like our forefathers or do we think of ' Absolutely NOTHING ' is behind everything. I am not saying that natural selection is wrong, as clearly it works in all sorts of ways. But ...come on .... Not ...NOTHING.... It does not even make sense to a growing number of intelligent scientists. All that lot that modern telescopes and observations from the very small , through 2 million suns collapsed into a black hole in the centre of the Milky Way , to the whole cosmic structure of the universe. You have got to be joking Not ... From. Nothing. With no intelligence , anywhere , nothing , nowhere , ? Surely not ! Come on that is stretching things a bit too far ! This is NOT established RELIGION Just COMMON SENSE !

Men of far older civilizations looked to the stars and heavens and thought of higher beings. Why do so many scientists run for cover nowerdays when one even hints at the idea of something greater than humans , when big bangs , to black holes to quasars to atomic energies enough to make you quiver exist out there and they are ALL so much bigger and more powerfull than humans . Why do scientists have to cling like limpets to a rock to the idea of " There is NOTHING Out there. .? Mike

You have a very perceptive mind! I must say I admire your approach. I do not necessarily agree with everything you say , but if I was in your shoes now... You have an interesting mental life ahead of you. , ! Don't do what I did and become an engineer , or you will spend much of your life following other peoples designs. Go into research, right now and fly into the future, fulfilled with an ever increasing sensation of discovery. You will probably be poorer than if you became an engineer. But far moor fulfilling to the brain you have. Or at least that's what I think will happen to you! But who the heck am I ? Come back to me in 30 years time and tell me how you got on ? I will have moved on ,I imagine by that time ! Checking out if there was or wasn't an afterlife ? I read a science fiction story some years ago ,by an author called Baxter , who has a scientific background like Arthur c Clark and Isaac Asimov . It was about the attack of the earth by some unseen overlords and airlifting off of the population off the Earth before it was destroyed from within the core. The story writer remained behind and described .....as one of the techtonic plates reared up from under the ocean and he described the edge and underside of the plate as it towered above him (just before he met his end ) . It was a mental image that has stuck with me to this day ... Absolutely awesome ... I have done a very simple painting of my visit to the Cambrian- Precambrian times of my feet in a shallow sea with trilobites about my feet. I will put it up if I can find it. I have been on a bit of a painting spree and I am buried alive in drawings and paintings ! ......Not to mention all the rocks and geology books. My wife is going berserk ! ... Mike

Well the answer to that , is in the answer that you want me to sum up the whole ideas of the thread. But to just answer this specific question , and go away and do my thinking over the next day or two, i will say something toward this point you ask as to the great attractor. The essence of the Lingual Description of a word based Theory of everything is that : I have proposed, and believe it still holds good , that: provided there in nothing, absolutely nothing getting in the way of a particular thing happening, Then it will happen . So the Universe I believe is going about its business doing everthing that is NOT being obstructed. from doing.. That is ,{ apart from one exception at the beginning of the whole, the very very beginning of the whole Shebang } PROVIDED there exists some impetus, nudge, or initiative for certain things to occur, Then the whole Universe is in the midst of OCCURING. . However there does exist certain priorities. . 1. THE VERY BEGINNING, [A special Case ] 2 REST of THE TIME Where certain things find themselves or are put at the mouth of a " Tube of opportunity" which is as clear as a whistle . , An initial small or large impetus, initiative. Then it will go away to the other end of the Tube of opportunity. [near,far,short distance ,time whatever] .and occur. 3. Where things [ which is in fact nearly everthing else ] are in the Path, Tube or NO tube just bumbling along through all sorts, I am saying, left with NO outside Extra help., , the occurance { things happening } will follow the course of least resistance or least energy. Now the one you are asking about " TheLarge Attractor " i would think is in category 2. There would appear to be some Possible Tube, or just a general opportunity for regions of the Universe near to us in the Local group of Galaxies including the MilkyWay And Andromeda to be moving gently toward the Great Attractor. [ may be thats why its called the great attractor. ] it really will be some very large time before it gets anywhere near. but it appears to be going anyway. At the moment that is all I can say about it. . Do not dismiss the Initial nudge. initiative or whatever. As you Know, Because I Know you Know. But for the benefit of other viewers, The Deccan Traps in upper India, possibly initially set off by an incoming Asteroid , opened up a great split in the earths crust, and magma of inordinate quantity breached the crust, pouring out vast quantities of molten mantle like a giant hemoridge . this continued for thousands if not millions of years spreading across northern India., thus making the Deccan Trapps. Similarly with the Siberian Trapps in Eastern Russia on another occasion. My artists impression of a possible future Mass eruption shows a similar hemmorage starting to flow out of the initial super volcano ( say like the one under yellowstone park in USA). This could be in the far future . However sections of continental crust could be uplifted and magma in vast quantities could flow like a ruptured artery . Ocean sea water could be disturbed in the process, causing giant Sunami's as illustrated in blue and turquoise. When hitting landfall , Giant buildings could have wave impacts as illustrated in white. This is of course, not predicted, any time soon. But is probably inevitable at some point in the future.! So ,this is my Artistic Licence allowing a possible glimpse at a location , that would not be good to watch first hand. You might well wonder what the crossing white lines are illustrating in the middle of the swirling , swell of the Ocean ? mike

For what ever it is worth. I found myself in an art session not sure what to paint by way of an Abstract Painting. I thought it would be nice to imagine a mass eruption like the Deccan Traps or the Siberian Traps. This is my attempt for a FUTURE MASS ERUPTION :-

I often wonder if our time. tic tic tic every second is just our perception of Change / Time not ABSOLUTE TIME . We can handle a Tic Tic second just although nothing much is percieved to have changed. A Day, a single rotation of the sun , is a memorable change by anybodies reconing. " that was a nice day we say, when we have gone to the beach, changing our position several miles so as to have a swim. a human lifetime of 70 or 80 circles of the earth about the Sun, feels a long time. [ so 1 sec to 80 years] is our perception. two swing changes of a pendulum to a lifetime of change from the second world war to the technological changes that make up today's society.. A fly i was once told only lives a day. So no doubt its lifetime sees a thousand changes in its lifetime of a day A Sub Atomic particle , say a muon can have a Life or half a life to only go from the top of the atmosphere down to earth in fractions of a second.. we say what a short life, but if the muon were conscious perhaps the changes crossing the atmosphere would seem like a lifetime. WHOEVER sees the Galaxy turning ONCE in a few million years. the whole of human civilization has seen all the changes of human existance come to this moment 2014 , in less than ONE TURN of the galaxy. To whomever sees the galaxy change by turning ONCE perhaps perceives this one turn as no more than we perceive one turn of the Earth as a day of changing. Thus maybe time is not absolute but it is the changes perceived by the beholder that are the slices we perceive as TIME . We all perceive our Experiences of change , whatever they are ( The turning of a galaxy, Human civilization in its total history, a lifetime of achievement , a day of buzzing about in a field , a journey through the atmosphere). Be we a muon,fly,human, or Godlike being or whatever . OUR PERCEPTION OF CHANGE ARE TOTALLY TOTALLY DIFFERENT. So MaYbe there is NO absolute Ticking clock. No TIME , Just CHANGE that we can relate to. Whoever the WE is Maybe the 'WE' be it a Muon, fly,human, Godlike being , slices change [not literally, but by recognition] cut up into manageable chunks for themselves, to observe , and experience that particular span. I know this perception can change, like when you fall off the top of a building . I know because I fell off the top of a squash court once, and lived to tell the tale. The lectures that Sheever brought to light in the last few posts are very enlightening . Very enlightening indeed. Credit to Sheever. He certainly locates some good reference presentations for consideration. I think what George Ellis and the other presenter from Stanford university and your comments give me is an endorsement of much of what I have been attempting to reason out over a lot of this thread. That we cannot look to the granular form to explain the large scale structure of the universe as we now see it in all it's current developments. Namely we will not find the explanation of every minutiae of the bigger universe within the elementary particles, much as these do indeed provide the ' Lego Bricks' to build the universe. And certainly not to minimise the spectacular investigations of the Lego bricks, as indeed we have received knowledge in recent years . However ! .-- We need to look elsewhere, to find what causes the universe to emerge the way it has ? --. Mike . That is an interesting statement . Interesting The Stanford University Lecture on Complex Systems. [ few posts back ] and the inherant difficulties with predictions and reductionism . link to post #480 http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/72758-a-lingual-theory-of-everything/page-24#entry789898 He well demonstrated the point of how most of the natural universe works with complex systems which have solutions that emerge from circulating ( after breaking from ordered behavior ) , around "strange attractors.". This being surely an emergent top down solution. Rather than the very ordered investigations of much of modern physics, in its attempts at a Theory of Everything , based on the behavior of elementary particles in a Bottom up approach ! [ Particles and Upwards ] mike I wonder , if this has any connection with the " Great Attractor " from a few posts ago , up in the cosmic arena .

Well I have now listened as carefully as I can at first pass these lectures. As far as I can tell , in the main , they support my ideas of non predictability being an issue , even from the micro level. As well as the definite lack of accurate predictability at the macro level . Obviously there are individual steps that are very predictable, but as soon as the quantum uncertainty is invoked by observation , uncertainty appears. The subject of emergence being a mechanism of operation , certainly at the large universal macro level. The speaker indicates that emergence is a major player even at the micro level when time is incorporated so as to move from Certain Past To uncertain future thus he says emergent adaption dictates in the main. The future. Clearly this is not a comment on the subject of this thread as " a lingual theory of everything" and the recent prediction of "tubes of opportunity " but there are reasonings that can be invoked from the speakers two lectures that impinge both the "theory I propose" and the particular prediction (of "tubes of opportunity") . Yes, Beautiful. makes my artistic sketch look a bit ....sick or something Your different simulations seem to be derived from different systems. presumably more from the bottom up using different Algorithms as the root code. although the automata though presumably based on a simple rule, although coming from a bottom up soon develops a life of its own and grows into interesting final shapes. I remember reading part of ( forget his name ) [ just looked up Wolfram ] who developed an alternative math based on this principle Not sure if any of those were Top Down ? You will have to put me right on that. The chaos is a candidate. all depends whether it repeats itself , I suppose. Prof Laughlin did some work on Emergent phenominon . As indeed do genetic .Algorithms must say I am very impressed with the simulations . What am I looking at here? What numbers are being crunched here in X,Y,Z Is this the positions of particles, Stars, galaxies, or just a random set of numbers ? And which is the bottom [to come up from ], and which the top[ to come down from. ] My understanding of the Top down is the existing universe at a more macro [universe } level and the bottom is the micro~quantum~atomic level to come up from . Where A] The bottom up is more causal, mathematical, number crunching based at the atomic level And B] The top down is more function based, if it works good, if it does not work it is no use, emergent, probabalistic.The mold as I think of it based at, and spans, the whole universe level mike

Not too sure what you are saying with reference to Spin ? "Opportunity " is just an expression I have used in this lingual theory of everything, to indicates a condition that " anything " might find itself in , or position itself in , so as to take advantage of a " clear way" that is present at that moment and position. With the opportunity of a required " possible " . The region of minimal resistance between the two " opportunity and possible " being the " tube ", probably bounded by field lines,( fields ) of various sorts. Eg Nasa May position a craft in a Lagrange point where an " opportunity tube" May be present by taking a particular trajectory out of the Lagrange point , so as to travel very efficiently, without extra ENERGY to Jupiter .( next Lagrange point ). Which brings us to your next point " Potential " Which is Energy (Potential energy). With the idea that ' Energy Makes Things Happen' ......pause for breath ! There is some form of potential from one end of the universe to the other .. An energy potential and the whole shaboodle is running down ! Entropy ! Mike

Keeping things simple, we could consider an " anything" as being one part of an " everything" . Now take any point in the entire universe ,if there is an "anything" there it will either be, or not be subject to a force. This force may be derived by its position in a whole manner of field influences ,invisibly or otherwise represented by field lines . The " anything" ,no matter what complexity of multiple field lines , will I believe nonetheless , be subject to either PUSH. PULL or TURN . Or ( nothing at all) . So the "anything" , ' possibly ' finding itself in one of these 'tubes of opportunity ' where the field lines produce such a tube , will move in the direction of the resultant. Push or pull , with or without some form of turning or spin. No matter how complex the field , the "anything" should be moving , spinning or not , up/down/along, the tube. One such very well researched example of this :- is the background Photon radiation from approx 300,000 years AFTER the Big Bang, when the temperature had fallen to a point where all atoms( mainly hydrogen and helium ) took on board their necessary Electron/s ( recombination) and photons of light/radiation shone out. This background photons of radiation as seen looking from earth now :- link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmic_microwave_background What seems strange, and has always made me wonder, when it was first explained By Prof Smoot, was that everything ( photons ) are arriving from all directions within as near as so many decimal places the same value . apart from the slight differences shown by the different colours (english ) . So those photons are all arriving from approx 13,600,000,000 years ago from that same time (approx 379,000 years after the big bang. ) stretched in wavelength from (approx 3000 degrees K) temperature light to microwaves at much lower temperature, ( approx 3 degrees K). They have traveled 13.6 light years and all arrived at the same time ? That would make the earth the center of the Universe, (well maybe it is ) or are we at the center of a sphere whose surface is 13.6 light years away and something goes beyond that. But then again the images coming from deep space show a much older universe ( deep field, gamma ray bursts, supernova from first generation stars , quasars exploding galaxies etc ). Or space has been shooting away or expanding away from the earth at a phenomenal speed (say near to the speed of light ) and in so doing has stretched the wavelength of the light photon so it appears 3 deg temperature of microwave rather than 3000 degrees temperature of light. But if that is the case , the light has not traveled from the far depths of space ? Just appears to have come from there. And we are still at the center of the universe., with everything speeding away from us at high speed so as to produce this effect ? The Hubble telescope or the Plank Telescopes is looking up to further and further depths like 13,000,000,000 light years distance , or what appears so ! Have the photons really traveled that distance, over all that time? that just all appear to be arriving at the same time with near as dxx it, the same temperature ? ( apart from the quantum fluctuation ) . It all looks the same from every direction ! That's Interesting ! Mike
