I am inclined to agree with you. However, in an attempt to understand the " reality " which appears to surround us and of which we are apart, my attempt at a " Lingual Theory of Everything " . was to try and identify some nature of reality which can allow EVERYTING to be the way it is . This to encompass Me, Us, every living thing ,all matter, all energy ,all Universe,all Big bang, All God, , The only overarching principle ('s) or set of three were the three at the core of this thread. namely Quote

Quite a bit stated in your post "hoopla". However to pick out a couple of points for discussion.. This idea that baroque or ornate maths is able to achieve sentience, could be said to be a presumption, which sort of ties in with the other point I wanted to discuss..about maths being capable of being ALL you need to make a universe. I have struggled a bit with whether maths is bedrock ,and that is all you need. Mike Tegmark believes thus. But I have come to the conclusion that maths can only give you the hard bits of the universe, the bits purely based on determinism, the bits solely based on formulae. These bits are nonetheless essential for giving some of the structure, stability, etc. etc but lack the loose, free, probabilistic nature so essential for a MAJOR part of the development of the current state of the universe. If we accept the principle as itemised in Wikipedia regards Black Box, and used by engineers, and scientists for over 50 years, as being a region or item having a function yet not understood or calculable in detail at this time. Then we CAN apply this to the origin of the "Big Bang " . So preceding the Big Bang was a black box responsible for supplying the initial conditions necessary for the Big Bang to 'go off' the way it did. If we then say but what was the 'prime mover' responsible for that black box, then we can say , a previous black box which at this time is unspecified. All interested party's can then take a side step to debate the nature of that previous black box to discuss, was it pre existing super engineers in a super society, a God, a nothingness or what. Mean while one can carry on with discussing origins without being stultified at the Big Bang. Mike

What do you think about using a " BLACK BOX " to define the requirements for the original generation of the Big Bang . So as to progress "The Lingual Theory of Everything " to deal with the BIG BANG Using the First Black Box Then you can make a list as long as your arm , if you want, put ALL the requirements in the " BLACK BOX " and you can worry about it later where or how all the list in the black box is provided. . [ eg : initiative, energy, constants, models, molds design , change etc etc etc ] If one can 'Suspend disbelief' for a while, it allows 'one' to make a MAJOR step forward. It is how engineers have been able to design Huge complex equipment and ships and ....who knows what for about 100- years Then we can visit the black box , [ or Black Boxes , one at a time ] even making another black box if necessary in a recessive way , to cover any further difficulties ! ? This sequence could be traced back from human consciousness ,all the way back . Each stage acting with the previous black box before it. This going back from human consciousness , back through multicellular life, to individual cells to mitochondria to DNA to amino acids to molecules to atoms to planets, to solar system to galaxy to Big Bang and so on back in the way described earlier for the Big Bang itself to before the Big Bang to ..........the ultimate black box. . .Yes, but I don't get it. I thought we (the earth) were in some form of lookout for incoming foreign bodies from outer space. Here, we are being advised by the astronomer on duty, that "an incoming " in heading for the sun's corona, where the hard bit is somewhere between 1-2 kilometers long. He says, " it is likely to break up , in the sun's corona. I suppose there is no way of knowing which way the bits ' fly off' . I do not suppose ,that if one of the bits starts heading for earth at mind bending, jaw dropping speed, that we will have an awful lot of time to launch ' nukes' or whatever to divert its trajectory. I thought we were going to have plenty of time to arrange ' ducking' strategy . How long does it take a comet 2 Kms long accelerating towards the sun coming all the way from the Orte cloud ( about as far out as you can go in the solar system), getting faster and faster as it nears the sun. Then a nasty chunk of 2 km long ice or some fraction, sling shooting itself around the sun , coming out in some random trajectory? Perhaps we need to " keep our head down " in December .

Yes both are definitely needed, most certainly , for their respective roles. However the " thinkers" and dreamers, and hypothesisers , need to be given a bit of flexibility ( bit of Space , Latitude, etc), while they are musing and dreaming, Otherwise they will wake up too early before the " baby in the bathwater completes its Dream " and thus never fully realises His/Her Hypothesis. I think what appears to be coming from many of the comments , is : that Maths alone is BLIND. It can blugeon on in a blindfold manner with due diligence. But may lead into a pit. Or may by chance to a place of wonder. But Observation and Hypothesis has EYES , after all that's what its doing ' Observing ' . So I do see Observation and Hypothesis being the 'outrunning scout' of the enterprise, and when sufficient argument and debate has refined the NEW observation or tossed it out , it can be handed over to the Mathematicians for producing possible patterns out of the Data , which are not easily spotted or need refining. A little memory is pricking at me here. The last university I studied electronics, had a maths teacher who i could communicate with. In a quiet moment I confessed that when confronted with a really difficult mathematical proof problem, with a sea of furmulae looking up at me off the page, i never knew which direction to proceed, which path of proof to take? He said to me something very profound! I have never forgotten his answer ! Look for the most elegant, most beautiful , most simple route mike. We mathematicians have a 'nose' for seeing the way to mold the morass of formulae in a beautiful, elligant ,simple form , teasing out a reduced answer. maybe he was right maybe he was wrong, he sure knew how to do math !
