If you are a south-asian, you must have watched Indian television dramas. One thing that is common to all of them is that whenever an old man faces some emotional stress, he suffers from a myocardial infarction, generally known as the Heart Attack. So if these stories are right, which they are in some sense (if we can ignore the exaggeration), a broken heart can lead to emotional stress which can elicit a number of responses that may ultimately lead to death. The most common of these is the Hear Attack, as I mentioned earlier. There is another interesting point in this. Let me ask the starter of this topic, Has heart anything to do with feelings? If no, then why people call it "broken heart" instead of "broken mind" or something else. The possible answer is that it is called broken heart because the psychological responses resulting from the situation most commonly affect the heart. In serious cases, they might even cause the heart attack, which may ultimately lead to death.

External stimuli to the nervous system?
Ahsan Iqbal replied to VoloScientiam's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
You need to understand the basic pattern of working of the nervous system. The nervous system operates in the following manner: A sensory organ perceives an external stimulus and converts into electrical signals. These electrical signals are conveyed from the sensory organ to the Central Nervous System through sensory neurons. The Central Nervous System relays the information and processes it, thus ordering specific responses. These responses are also generated in the form of electrical signals that travel through the motor nerves to an effector organ. The effector organ translates the electrical signals into physical or chemical work. Thus you see that the nervous system operates on three primary things. 1) Conversion of Physical or Chemical Stimuli into electrical signals 2) Processing, relaying and transferring of these signals through the body and the nervous system itself 3) Translation of the electrical responses generated by the CNS into Chemical or Physical work. -
Lie detecting technique

I agree. There is no solid evidence that such technology exists today. Maybe some prototypes are in development but a commercial product doesn't exist. -
Why Does Water Make Me Sick?
Ahsan Iqbal replied to GrandMasterK's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
I never heard of such condition before. This is very serious because water is life and if you are unable to drink water, you are a very unlucky man. -
Is Sex Primitive?
Ahsan Iqbal replied to NavajoEverclear's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
There is a sexual drive instinctly in all sexually reproducing animals so in that case human would be doing what other animals do. there would be no thing like masturbation because this is not an instictive thing. It is an artificially generated action that solely is because of our advanced nervous system -
Number of Connections in the Brain
Ahsan Iqbal replied to aj47's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
Probably the statement giver could have thought that every cell in the brain is connected with every other cell. In this way the number of connections would be equal to the square of the number of cells present in the brain. I have heard that there are about 2 billion cells in the brain so the total number of connections would be (2000000000 x 2000000000). I don't think this value is greater than the number of atoms in the brain. -
Easy way to learn human anatomy
Ahsan Iqbal replied to Ahsaniqbal111's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
You are absolutely correct but I should tell you that for the absolute beginners, reading the first page of anatomy book is very interesting. -
Thanks for the links. They were really helpful.

I don't think it depends on the patient. There are alpha and beta receptors present in every one and different organs have different concentration of these. I have heard about different structures of a human responding to adrenalin differently but I have not heard about different humans responding differnetly

Thankyou for making an addition to my little knowledge. I had no idea of how a balloon could lose elasticity.

Easy way to learn human anatomy
Ahsan Iqbal replied to Ahsaniqbal111's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
There are three famous books of human anatomy (at least in my country). Gray's anatomy Clinical anatomy by Snell Clinical Oriented anatomy by Keith L moore. Check out this post for more details : Best books on human anatomy I don't think it is a good idea. You can produce much better results studying a good book. Yes, watching a video might be less boring, but it is not as effective as books because if you are a medical student, you have to remember all the minor details which can only be kept in mind in form of tables. -

Some dreams do recur but I have never heard of a dream recurring just one a year. A very interesting case. If you got the answer, please share with us. -
know any good shoulder exercises?
Ahsan Iqbal replied to random's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
There might be professional help available to you on this forum but probabilities are less. As a medical professional, I am liable to advise you that you should seek professional's help and not compromise because it is that matter of one of your body parts (a very important one). -
There are a lot of books on brain and nervous system. Medical students read the neuroanatomy that is related to it. So if you want details of medical level, you can find a lot of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology books that will tell you a lot about the anatomy and physiology of brain and nervous system.

A Cure For Acne Rosacea
Ahsan Iqbal replied to antiaging's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
I agree. The cure for even the common acne is just symptomatic. It just depresses the symptoms and does not cure the condition. -
Where does bird blood come from?
Ahsan Iqbal replied to Anura's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
When I was in the 8th standard, I remember reading something like there is an air pocket associated with the respiratory system of birds that allow it to breath more efficiently and when filled with air, it takes the space between the bones. Now what is that air pocket, I don't understand and neither do I remember the details. Probably someone here can explain this.
