Their paper disk usesw less overall material and is therefore more economically and enviromentally practical. Basicaly it takes less paper to make a CD than it does plastic.

People hear what the want to hear.

I'm agree 100%, although photons, electrons, etc are great and interesting the Greeks, Romans, Phonecians, Chinese, and dozens of other civilisations got along just fine wihtout them, and chances are there is some alian civilisation that gets along fine without any faith in a higher being, or self esteem or any of that... I guess its kind of similar to "Ignorance is bliss", it's just more precise and therefore more true

X-rays cause cancer?!
Aegir replied to -Demosthenes-'s topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
You get exposed to more radiation by going to the beach than by getting an X-Ray. I dont think it make a huge difference if you get an X-Ray for you broken arm. -
Since when are lasers microwaves ? Also Jammers arent illegal everywhere.

Everyone is prejudiced. You invalidate your entire argument by claiming it to be obljective.

Then I truly think you're a moron.

It only take somthing like 1 in 1 million people buyingsomthing for them to make a proft. I don't see a problem with a 1 cent tax, the problem is that people probably said the same thing about a 1 cent postage tax...

Well, for example say a guy gets into a car crash and is put in the hospital. If the guy is married to a woman, his wife can make any decision that needs to be made on his behalf. IF the same guy is gay his partner cannot make any of those decisions.

No, the government gives you a amarriage license which states you are legally married. The rights granted to a couple with a civil union and a marraige are VERY different.

Surnames evolved from people needing to ditinguish between two people with the same first name... they did this by labeling the person, like John the blacksmith was called John Smith. and john's son James was called James Johnson.

I am more or less neutral here but I do think that the "homosexuality is a disease becausae it inhibits reproduction" idea is not completely baseless... going back to what fafalone said; if a heterosexual couple engage in oral sex they are still cabable of having ordinary reproductive sex; the same is not true for a homosexual couple.

Personaly I would like Dean to win it, but I think Kerry has enough momentum to stay ahead of everyone.

I have to agree with atinmonkey on this one... they rebeled, that makes them rebels.

I don't think I carry any burden of proof by claiming that the current president was elected. It is entirely your responsibility to provide proof he was not.

I don't think cold blooded and living on the bottome of the ocean would go well together...

Personaly I am going to go with no on the first question... I had a reason but it left during the course of my reading of your tangent... As for time=C ... I don't think so. Personaly I think time is not really a dimension in the same sense as space is a dimension, I think time is simply an ilusion impregnated upon the human mind. I havent really had a chance to ratinalize all the possibilities of that yet seeing as I just thought of it a couple of days ago while reading these forums.

Its Fox News... you learn to expect that from them.

I don't think national outrage is somthing that is important to the decision making process... as you said no plan would ever be implemented if everyone liked it. What makes you say that ? If the world's population were to keep rising at the rate it has for the last fifty years the population of the world would nearly double. You can say the earth can support 6 billion people but certainly not 12 billion ? But not soon enough. Even if they could it wouldn't be anywhere near the standard of living in a hospitable climate. Also they would be totaly dependant on the rest of the world for food, having a bad storm ? Well guess you just starve to death! Youwont find me moving to antartica.
-
If that is indeed the case then why is the population rising so rapidly ? The population of the world was realatively stable until about 1900.(1) It isn't like we have had plenty of room for the last 2000 years so we will have plenty of room for the next 2000... Even if the world population is withinbg the Earth's capacity of food production now it certainly wont be in 20 years if nothing is done to control population growth. On the other hand acording to the article which the graph cited above comes from (2) this isnt really an issue in countries like the United States and Great Britain but rather in poor developing countries were it would be even harder to implement many of these systems because people are so spread out with no real central authority. Really it is a moot point because if there aree to many people for the amount of food produced eventually people will starve to death untill the population is at a sustainable level. I guess that is a rather cynical spin on it, but it is none the less true.

Well, that wasnt what it was designed to do, but it certainly has the potential to become that.

I can't remember where I read this to save my life... it could very well have been on these forums, but I somewhere that every time a cell replicates a little piece at the end is cut off and eventually it gets to actually genes and starts screwing with operational genetic code. Kind of like recompiling a computer prgram's source code over and over again but deletein the last character from the code each time it was recompiled. It would be un-noticable for some time... but once it got to the program itself it would render the program incabable of functioning (ie death) realatively quickly.

Cyclic universe possible? Yes, it is not.
Aegir replied to alt_f13's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
I am only in high school, so I cant pretend to understand all of what is being discussed here... but why does motion have to be tied to time ? Coudn't the branes move, and thus collide, without the advancement of time ? -
My idea to reducing population has always been to implement a "two parents, one child" policy. The problem with this, like most other ideas is that it would be necessary to implement the program internationaly, somthing I don't think is very likely in the near future. None the less I imagine that there are few arguments against it. It allows everyone to pass on their genes equally but prevents rampent population growth. As for preventing people from having more than one child two routes could be followed. One; people could be sterilized after they have a child, or Two; there would simply be taxes imposed on families that had more than one child as is the case in China where they already practice this system. I don';t really know how effective the system has been in CHina, but it is by far the most rational system I have ever seen considerd.
