  1. As much as I would be in favour of removing rep points from certain sections of the forum, the software doesn't seem to allow for that adjustment.
  2. In previous threads, staff have mentioned that we have on occasion curtailed or removed the ability for people to use the reputation system. In previous versions of the forum software we were able to limit positive or negative reputation limits separately. This meant that the impact of people who wished to use the reputation system to target specific members was always low, and staff could easily reverse it. This no longer being the case means that the system is more open to being abused by people wishing to use it as a form of personal attack. Thankfully, we have had very few cases where staff have had to intervene. For those cases where we have had to do something, admin have created two new member groups with reputation point limits set to either 0 or 2, which limits the use of both positive and negative rep points.
  3. ! Moderator Note Since the OP has rather helpfully deleted their post, this is closed. Andrés Figari Jr, in future please do not simply attach documents for people to read. You must highlight your premise in the body of your post, and detail any specific points you wish to discuss. People should not have to move off-site or download something in order to know what you're talking about.
  4. ! Moderator Note It is fine to quote from another website if there is something specific you wish to point out, just make sure you also post a link.
  5. ! Moderator Note If you are going to copy-paste from another website, please make it clear and include a citation. I have edited your post to include one.
  6. ! Moderator Note It is clear the OP has no interest in discussing this further. As such, thread closed.
  7. ! Moderator Note I have just finished splitting 59 posts from this thread (to here). A few notes: 1. Reg Prescott, it is abundantly clear that you have several bees in your bonnets regarding certain scientific hypotheses / theories / whatevers. This is fine, and you are welcome to discuss them in a constructive and genuine manner in the appropriate place. This thread is not such a place, however. Do not hijack other threads with your ranting. If you wish to discuss something, make a thread and keep it there. If that thread gets closed, you've had your chance and the conversation is over. 2. To the other members who have been here longer should be more than able to identify when conversations start veering off track. You do not have a licence to continue to go off-topic until 59 off-topic posts later, someone is able to step in. There aren't very many staff around at the moment and some us (me) have a PhD thesis that needs writing. It would be very much appreciated if you could not add to the workload. 3. I did my best with the posts that got removed. If I missed something or you think something shouldn't have been taken out, PM me. 4. Cut out the hostility. Some of the attitudes in the posts I removed were not acceptable.
  8. ! Moderator Note beecee, it would be appreciated if you could include citations if you are going to directly quote material written by others. I have added a link to your post.
  9. ! Moderator Note Me. Thread closed, and consider yourself placed in the mod queue while staff consider your posting privileges.
  10. ! Moderator Note We don’t dispense medical advice here.
  11. ! Moderator Note This is a discussion forum, not your personal blog. Unless you wish to have your posting privledges removed, I suggest you both review and start complying with the forum rules.
  12. I used Leninger when I was in undergrad. It covers a fairly broad range of subjects with a good amount of depth.
  13. Okay, probably start with identifying what numbers you need to find. Do you know how to make up to stock solution?
  14. Depends on the pH of the solution it’s in.
  15. You need both the mass of tin you started with, and the mass of your product. What do you think? If you assume your reaction went to completion (ie. all the tin reacted to make tin oxide), what does the 60.020 g represent (what is in it)?
  16. We aren’t here to do your homework for you. Could you please detail where you are stuck and show your attempts at this question?
  17. ! Moderator Note This being a science forum means you should probably keep the outside-of-the-doctor explanations elsewhere.
  18. It’s just moles per litre, it’s perfectly fine and very commonly used. Edited: I kind of see your point about brackets, but I also don’t think it’s at all ambiguous as written. There’s nothing wrong with the way you wrote it, I don’t think. Got it. Normally these sorts of questions try to step you through the calculations by asking for each bit separately, so I had thought maybe it should have been 250 mL. Did you see what I meant by the calculation being mucked up in the calculator? I think you were out by a factor of 10.
  19. I assume there is a typo in b (i) and that you meant to say 250 cm3? If so, then this looks fine to me, except that I think you mucked up your calculation in part (i). If you fix that your numbers should work.
  20. inSe has been suspended for 1 month for sock puppetry, an inability to act without aggression, and for posting a lot of nonsense.
  21. ! Moderator Note Your OP has been asked and answered. Since this is also now delving into other territory, consider this closed.
  22. ! Moderator Note Since the OP is unwilling to engage and clearly has nothing of substance to add here, this is closed.
  23. It depends on whether or not the post has been given rep points and then had them cancelled out or not. If no one has up or down voted the post, then you won't see any number. If someone has up or down voted, and then someone else counters that, it will show up as 0. The posts you are talking about that show a 0 fit into the latter category.
  24. It's harder for them to get away with Medicare because they don't have an easy scapegoat to pit the middle-class against to make it seem as though someone else is taking advantage of them. With dismantling welfare, they can sell it by convincing your average working class person that the people engaging with the system are sitting around, insidiously mooching off your tax dollars with no regard for a hard day's work. They do a very good job of making their platform issues of us vs. them.
