  1. We can see who is repping posts. If we think a person is going out of their way to unfairly rep someone or someones, we do our best to reverse the damage. We also possess the power to remove the ability for someone to neg rep members. A quick glance at your account does not suggest to me that you have been targeted. Perhaps it's time to look at your posts instead of blaming the system or other members?
  2. ! Moderator Note Indeed. OP, what you are suggesting is dangerous and you would be well advised not to do it. Not only is it hazardous to make laughing gas, the risk of death when using it is also quite high. I repeat, don't do it. In the mean time, this is closed.
  3. ! Moderator Note I guess we're done here then.
  4. Creating a virtual economy out of the reputation system would completely detract from the intent of the system. IMO, it would only encourage abuse and amplify the feelings of unfairness shared by some of our newer members, since members who have been around longer and had more time to accumulate rep points would have an unfair advantage. fiveworlds, swansont was hinting at the fact that your first post was a complete and utter lie. You have two pages worth of posts that you have repped in one direction or another since joining.
  5. ! Moderator Note Does this thread have a point? If you're just wanting to discuss the negative reputation system, there are plenty of threads on this already, one of which you are active in (http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/88129-negative-reputation-again-split-from-science-forums-etiquette/). Unless you have something new to discuss, this will be closed.
  6. The criticisms are maybe a little harsh, but you can't fault them in their accuracy. You can't balance it because the equation isn't right. You claim this is an experiment you yourself performed. Just from a perspective of safety, don't you think you should have known what you were doing before you did it? ! Moderator Note Regardless, it's no need to need be vulgar in return. That is to stop.
  7. ! Moderator Note I appreciate that this is for a good cause and that it's even science related, however this is a discussion forum rather than an avenue to recruit funding. We don't allow members to advertise on this forum and as such, I have removed your links and I am closing this thread.
  8. ! Moderator Note You need to re-read swansont's note and perhaps relate that back to your posts. Nothing you said in the locked thread made sense and when asked to clarify, instead of figuring out the source of confusion you threw your hands in the air / in your ears and started yelling. That won't fly here. If you have a specific concern about the thread closure, report it or PM staff. This thread is closed.
  9. It depends on the element and what charge it has as the ionized species and I suppose how you are. I don't think there would really be any hard and fast rules, though there would some trends across the groups of the periodic table. Sodium metal for instance is very reactive as it is highly susceptible towards oxidation, having only one valence electron. A sodoum ion, however, is not very reactive. Similar case with potassium. Compare that to elemental nitrogen vs a nitrogen anion, which is different again to the corresponding cation. Elemental hydrogen reacts very differently to a H+, which is also different in reactivity to H-. It would help if you could narrow your question. Why exactly do you need to know this?
  10. Started training for a 100 km in 48 hr hike today. My legs aren't sure what they did to deserve this, but at least my fundraising efforts are going well.

Non-cotton everything is on my list, as it happens. Good tip on the sudocreme, thanks. I had read about using it not long ago as a cheaper and just-as-good alternative to body glide. I was going to trial both, but if you think that Sudocreme is the way to go, I'll just save my money / invest in more moleskin.

If you have time in your preparation I would try as many permutations as possible. I agree some of the solutions are just too expensive - ie you can afford it but just don't wan tot be ripped off for petroleum jelly in a pretty packet.

We've been training every weekend so far, though I've had to skip a couple because of my ankle injury. I was in a hiking shop the other day to get the people there to double check my shoes fit well. The lady there told me that a lot of people would come in the day before to buy new equipment, having done no training at all. I can't even imagine doing that.

I was recommended some peppermint balm by the same store person, which I'm trying today on the second section...

  11. ! Moderator Note Spliting ~35 posts has to be some sort of record. Tar, we'd really appreciate if you could keep your tangental ramblings to your own threads, or at least somewhere where they are on topic.
  12. ! Moderator Note Acme, enough. You are not a moderator, you do not get to be the arbiter of what is and isn't a rules violation. We have received your many, many reports. We haven't commented here because we don't agree with your assessment. Now please, everyone, take a breath and stop with the hostility. Edit: to clarify, this is to say we don't value reports when members notice an infraction. However, when you send upwards of 5 or so reports in the space of a few days, you can safely say that we got the message. If we don't choose to act on it, it's because we either don't agree or we're still discussing. It is not an invite to take matters into your own hands and post reminders of the forum rules in response to other members.
  13. Or you could do that yourself and figure out if you understand things. Thread closed.
  14. ! Moderator Note Firstly, swansont is certainly not the only person to have closed one of your threads. Secondly, even if he was, so what? He was acting as a staff member when doing so and as such, you can assume the closures were sanctioned by other staff members as well. You have a habit of making posts that do not make sense. It seems that part of it is because you choose to make up non-standard definitions to terms that already have definitions and expect everyone to follow along. The other half, IMO, is because you do not appear to know what you're talking about and you're too busy skipping ahead to the next chapter before you've figured out the basic stuff. Now, being wrong is not against the rules and members here are normally happy to help out, but it does become a problem when you refuse to help yourself and continue to post nonsense. If you have specific questions, ask them and stop trying to attach your ideas to them until you are sure you actually understand the fundamentals.
  15. ! Moderator Note Blix, I have removed the link you added to your post. This is not the first time staff have had to do this for you, so consider this an official warning. Please review the forum rules, specifically 2.7.
  16. ! Moderator Note Ant, If you could cut the plainly ridiculous discourse and read what people are saying to you instead of what can at best be described as making it up, that would be appreciated. The insults also stop.
  17. ! Moderator Note We're six pages in and you still have made no attempt to provide evidence or show any sort of model. Of course it requires thought! Thought you should have put into it before making your claims, perhaps? In any case, it was made abundantly clear that you needed to provide these things and since you still haven't, this thread is closed and you are not permitted to reopen it.
  18. ! Moderator Note We're done here. minaras, Take some time to ready back through the responses given to you. You are not permitted to reintroduce the topic.
  19. ! Moderator Note Moving to speculations. Dr. Funkenstein, please be aware that you will be required to produce evidence to justify your claims and why your ideas work where the current ones don't. Otherwise this will be closed.
  20. ! Moderator Note Please more careful of where you are posting threads. This is not a comment or suggestion specifically about SFN, so it doesn't belong here. I am closing this. If you want to reopen it, do so somewhere else (the Philosophy or Speculations section would be more appropriate). Before doing so however, I would suggest reading some threads already dealing with your questions first. This: http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/663-spotting-pseudoscience/ http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/31045-why-has-my-post-been-moved-to-speculations/ Is a good place to start, followed by the many, many threads on, 'is science a religion?'
  21. ! Moderator Note 0chitauA1, Our rules prohibit members from making posts containing only links or videos. If you want to discuss your ideas, please detail what they are, how they apply and what proof or evidence you have in the body of the text. Links, etc., should only be used for support. I am closing this. You are welcome to reopen a new thread in Speculations (this does not belong in the main area if the forum).
  22. ! Moderator Note This is a good point and one I've been meaning to address. EdEarl, this thread / website is not your soap box. You have been more or less ignoring criticism in this thread for some time and instead posting links to websites without even adding your own comments on the articles. It needs to stop. If you don't intend on engaging in discussion of your points, stick to using a blog.
  23. ! Moderator Note Please stay on topic and keep your speculative ideas to your own thread.
  24. ! Moderator Note nobox, Firstly, if you want to discuss your own speculative ideas on the world, you need to do it in your own thread. You also need to provide evidence. I am splitting this into the trash. If you want to go into your ideas about anti-gravity, please open a new thread. Secondly, insulting other members is not permitted here. If you don't have anything constructive or on topic to contribute, don't bother contributing.
  25. ! Moderator Note clover, I have merged your two threads with responses and locked the other one on this topic. Please do not spam the forum with multiple threads on the one thing. The rule is one thread per topic.
