  1. In supposing moo feels she as a virus, opposed to a non-virus infectious illness (a bad cold), it's probably an influenza type virus picked up (by contact) enroute, on the plane or shortly after arriving in Israel. In further supposing she has not seen a doctor (a mistake), is running fever a slight fever under 102F, or and especially has not eaten or drank anything spoiled or unusual to her digestive system (mild food poisoning/indigestion problem) she probably has a simple cold, psychologically enhanced by being on vacation and a probable ground humidity and temperature change. CR: I think you'll find anyplace large groups of people convene, Hospitals, Schools, Shopping Centers and Airports, where a by nature people make near contact with many others, directly or indirectly, you'll see increased infections. I do agree, the plane is not likely a good place for a virus to spread, or an enclosed building, but would question how certain germs, fungi and other microbes can spread.
  2. Pangloss; The old link and the new one offered by ag are very slow loading...
  3. I had been sending PM's to another member of this forum and find that the conversation had been deleted, but the final post was forwarded as email. Are you all, discontinuing PM's, or editing PM's for content and deciding which should be sent Email or as PM's....I don't mind direct emails, but have long learned, if direct emails are used either party then developing a problem, will blame a new email sender.
  4. Last I've heard only 3-5 Drilling Rigs have left the US Coast and I'm not sure the second moratorium has caused any problems, hasn't been ruled on. Personally I feel, the first ruling "you can't retract permits, without due cause individually, not for all". I understand free floating involves a great many operations, however each had been permitted and their is no reason to believe BP's problems was caused from the Rig. Note; While I do personally feel the RIG was in part at fault, it was due to ill advised actions putting out the aftermath fire, not the free floating element.... It's my understanding the Gulf region produces about 20% of US crude usage and refines a great deal more, and Alaska produces another 25% alone, many from off shore wells. To put this in some perspective the US in 2009 imported 66% of it's annual needs (7.14 Billion Barrels) at a cost of 390 Billion Dollar deficit to an already bloated import/export deficit, then not counting the jobs being lost in the US from these imports. As for the bridge from fossil to alternative fuels and not recognizing all the controversy, it's going to take a great deal of "personal income", time and energy to achieve. Most anybody, with a few extra dollars can buy green products, today. In fact, I think next year Ford will be selling a conventional Model for the same price as a Hybrid model, for the same price. The Gas only model will handle a 4K pound load, the Hybrid 2K pound, not including any convenience involved on maybe inconveniences and cost (plugging in and cost). Here are a couple problems, as I see them; We can ban all exploration/drilling/extraction of crude oil from anyplace we are authorized to ban and just pay the price, with import and job cost. The bad thing is we import from a good many Counties or compete for those imports, that will be exploring/drilling and extracting from Gulf Water and with angle/slant drilling possible be buying our own reserves, if not already, in not the too distant future (been awhile since I've researched this). Not to mention Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and not really a friendly Mexico today. Now here is the biggest problem; India, China, Africa (via Russian Interest) are not going to quit using fossil fuels anytime soon, I don't care about treaties or anything else and their is not much the US can do other than what they have proposed for the industrialized Nations and supply the money for green energy to third world nations. This will never happen and the US is already paying a very high cost, simply for not using their own reserves. IMO, for the long term stability of the International World and then the US, would be keep the cost of crude low, allowing to go high CAUSES international problems (remember the corn price/ethanol international comments) and allows all developing Nations to increase productivity, followed by interest in their OWN green energy...
  5. Adding to SJ post, noting time is not always the problem... rigney; Everyone that uses any forums posting system has lost its content, likely many times. It's extremely frustrating, but not necessarily anyone's fault. We went through this in suggestions, not to long after your joined, but I'll go back over it; If you have Microsoft 'Jarte Word Processing Hardware' is compatible and you might consider downloading, it cost nothing.... http://www.jarte.com/download.html If you do, an icon will appear on you screen and the system has it's own spell check, right click on a word, then left click dictionary. Spell checking while on site, can cause many problems and should be avoided IMO. Now, I don't believe you fully understand how to copy/paste items. Play around with this a short while and you'll get the hang of it. Left click your mouse while moving the arrow over a sentence, paragraph or in the case of transferring a formed message, off word pad, text Document or Jarte, from bottom up the entire message. Once you get everything you want in blue, release your click. Then right click (anyplace on the blue) and click copy. So long as you don't copy something else or turn off your computer, it will be maintained in your system. Be careful not to click "cut"... Go to where you wish to place what's copied, a forums message system, right click and then click paste, whatever copied will show up. Anything you want boxed, quotes and so on, type "quote" ahead and "/quote" at the end with [ ] around each word. I am posting this publicly (opposed to PM) because I am Computer Illiterate myself and if not 100% correct, assume someone will correct my explanation. Normally I don't have much time to during market hours to form post, wanting to keep track of my few stocks, business news, emails or some news program on TV, kind of a priority thing in my mind. In fact I'm forming this post, off site on Jarte and will shortly go to the site, if everything goes as planned, will then delete this item from my system. If wanted for future reference, I would file it under the Jarte System titling it appropriately.
  6. mohit; With the remote possibility, you are interested in two issues* brought up in Ms. Garcia's article and not trying to promote it, I'm going to reply. Additionally, having seen these questions far too many times over years of participation in Science Forums, under Cosmology, your not going to receive many objective replies. *The article (Blog), tries to bring "Creationism", into the picture, with (1) A history of Religion of Earths Human Civilization and (2) Skepticism of the Big Bang Theory, currently both active threads on more appropriate sub forums. http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/50252-the-evolution-of-religion/page__pid__556265__st__40#entry556265 Since this site requires (I think 30 post/10 days) to participate in Religious Conversations and is drifting off topic anyway, you may find some of it worth your time in reading, for now. http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/50896-universal-an-galactic-speeds/page__pid__556299#entry556299 Which you can join in today (Speculations) and basically answers your original question (explosion). While I am a skeptic of BBT, have little or no interest in discussing Creationism, the science behind BBT, to those involved is based on a collective understanding of the Universe (called Accepted Science Theory), AS TAUGHT, IMO, no less how whatever your view or mine, has been formed. Anyway, welcome to the forum and hope you follow through with your questioning an issue in my opinion deserves to be questioned...
  7. My question: If our universe is actually moving at the speed of light, how can these different speeds be interpreted as anything more than guesses? rigney; Yes and no; The Earth is spinning at 1040 MPH, at the equator, as is everything on the planet.... The Earth is orbiting the Sun at about 66,600 M/H, taking one earth year to complete each orbit... It's thought our Sun, in orbit around the Milky way core has a velocity (speed) of 558,000 M/H, taking near 250 Million years to complete one orbit. It's believed our local group of Galaxy, is moving slightly faster through space at 660,000 M/H. The speed of light is 186,200 Mile per SECOND. These are mathematical calculations, based on known or estimated figures. http://www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/astronomy/planets/earth/Speeds.shtml Andromeda, the Milky Way are in a natural orbit and it is felt by SOME, these orbits will put the two Galaxy in near the same place in approximately 4.5 Billion Years. There are two Dwarf Galaxy much closer to the MW and expected to be absorbed, think in about 15-25 Million years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andromeda%E2%80%93Milky_Way_collision According to Big Bang Theory, 'expansion' of the Universe into some unknown entity (nothingness, but not now Universal Space) is at a near C speed or in some models faster than C, which is creating SPACE between objects, not moving objects. That is if the Universe, has a speed, not logical under BBT, this expansion and that velocity have nothing to do with each other. In my opinion, for space between objects to increase at speed anywhere near C, that expansion would have to be very large multiples of C velocity. To explain my feelings, in some models this expansion, was in fact extremely rapid in the first seconds of expansion, yet we claim to see the energy emitted from objects, back to the approximate times of the BB itself.
  8. The NY Times is the "News of Record" for other liberal media, has been for a long time and remains so today. I recall many years ago the News of Record, or the SOURCE, for the Paul Harvey Report, was the USA Today and a good many right wing media today used the Drudge Report, Rush Limbaugh and FNC. P, has it correct. Skeptic; If you view or listen to something, expecting to hear unreported items, keeps other media from straying too far, implying exaggerating/embellishing, how can that be a bad review. As for your third point; I went over about 50 so called misrepresentations of facts. If you would please pick a couple, that were on FOX NEWS PROGRAMMING, opposed to opinion shows or from quest and I'll be happy to respond, even if you find one.
  9. pioneer; "The evolution of religion" and your OP comments were misleading and what I believe has got you few if any related replies. Rather than starting another thread, having some interested in the title statement, I'll offer my brief comment... First Homo Sapiens (modern man) and or Neanderthals go back 100k years or more and it's been suggested, lived simultaneously up to at least 30k years ago. IMO, ancient religion (worship of gods) formed as the brain/mind/reasoning developed, communes formed and life became more than survival. In the process good and bad became apparent and reasons sought out, which led to super natural powers (so to speak). Example; If rain was needed and it came (good thing) or if it had not (bad thing) then something must have caused either, in what was, the infancy of reasoning. To the point of 'Evolution' and my research long ago and over years, this led to Philosophy, separating into Religions/Science over the years, the single higher power (one god), over everything the current most accepted idea.
  10. Moon; I'm using your comment, only because it goes to the root question, nothing personal...
