I am not familiar with anything to do with the numerous topics within the scientific field, and I hope I am in the correct topic area for this post? please let me know if it is not.
I am an IT student carrying out a final year project, and as I worked for a pharma company last year I have decided to base my project on exposing IC50 data via a web service. I am having difficulty in getting to grips with the IC50 side of the problem and could really do with some help in understanding what it represents, what associated data is recorded and how results are obtained. some of these questions may seem really daft but as I said this is not my field so appologies in advance!!
What are assays?
What are IC50 results showing?
How do assays relate to IC50 data?
How are they obtained?
When analysing at IC50 data is there any other associated data that needs to be captured? E.g. assay numbers?, compound numbers, date, time, any others?
What current applications are there that are popular for capturing, recording or analysing IC50 data?
What criteria would you be used to query an IC50 database (if one existed) e.g. compound ID?, assay ID?? any others?
Any help with this or links to some good sources would be very much appreciated, I have used google but find it hard understanding what is meant.
