Trump predicts imminent arrest, calls for protests - Sound familiar?
geordief replied to StringJunky's topic in Politics
I was reading that to have more than one case on the go makes life more difficult for the defense lawyers. The defendant has to show his or her hand in the earlier cases whereas the prosecution in the later cases start from scratch and with the benefit of the earlier disclosures. It would have to be heard before the election because he would have the tools as a sitting president to prevent it being heard ever(or set up some kind of packed court to hear it in his favour) We have his "president for life" comments to support this. -
Suppose I want to be the king of posters. Can I use this Chatbot technology to put this forum's public archives into the database along with the post I want to answer and get an instant ,informed response to said post? If I struggle to get a "fair hearing" as per my point of view can I use this technology as an intellectual crutch? We all know how many users pass through these and similar forums and end up getting suspended. Will those users sopn be able to get this help to stay within the rules while not observing the spirit of a discussion forum?

Yes it is certainly very interesting. Not sure if it will compete with the Paltrow trial as pure spectacle but even this first part of his hoped for comeuppance is a lot more consequential than that. I do have sympathy for Cohen even if I wouldn't want to be his friend. He has ,in my view the higher moral ground for having served his time. There is that fascinating subplot to untangle the two guilts. Hopefully even the Trump cultists will be drawn in by the opening of the curtains. -

We have seen the "rules" Trump and his cronies play by.You need a bit of balls to stay standing. -
Mine has improved after my inguinal hernia was operated on.I also drink coffee during the day to keep the day/night rhythm of urination Also kegels, which have to be done correctly. Never heard of zinc being used.Sounds like that may be for general prostate health?

I read speculation that Weisenberg has now got his own lawyers and that it might be of consequence That might be more fun than is decent. -

I mean there needs to be evidence besides Cohen's testimony and common sense. Cohen's credibility is a weak link and I have no idea how common sense will play out. Cohen was "crowing"** how his testimony has be corroborated by documents and has not been rebutted by any if the other witnesses so maybe that will tell. **not crowing but very passionate nonetheless How do you know that? -

From the CNN discussion ,regarding the Stormy Daniels hush money aspect ,the test will be whether Trump personally knew about the cooking of the books and that the actual payments being made to her may not be central to a successful prosecution I also drew from their discussion that Michael Cohen may certainly be a weak link as his animosity to Trump was so obvious and on show(I thought he was very impressive, but still..) Recommend seeing his interview with Lemon and the other lady as it is great and instructive viewing. -

Very interesting.A former president who may not be above the law and a Republican party that is beneath contempt.(actually Stormy Daniels considered running for a Republican seat in the Senate in 2010) -
Not sure why I thought that.It was probably just a combination of a guess and a vague recollection of things I had heard along those lines in the past. So you are fairly sure that the two trajectories would be different both in GR and Newtonian gravity ?(it is only really the GR case I was interested in)

We have an object approaching the surface of the Earth (no atmosphere) and instead of crashing into the surface it enters a hole/tunnel in the "gruyere" that is by luck or design the exact spiral shape that allows the object to spiral into the centre of the Earth without physical contact. The next step is to "melt all the cheese " so that all the mass is together in a very small region of the centre of the "Earth" Another object (same size, same mass, same shape etc etc) approaches this second "Earth" at the same angle and speed of approach. Do the two objects follow more or less identical trajectories in GR? I think ,but could be wrong that they may well do so and that perhaps they would not under Newtonian gravity. But I don't know, myself .

Thanks I read like a sloth but will try to read a good section of that book as the period seems very interesting. Something that I definitely find interesting is Hanif Kureishi 's Twitter feed. https://mobile.twitter.com/Hanifkureishi He has spent the last 3 months minus the use of his limbs after an accident in Rome ,but still able to communicate with his writing(without the use of a pen)

In the North of Norway a young couple (us) was sitting in a restaurant where the ship had docked having bought a meal at the counter. They were approached by one of a group of Sami (Laplanders) with an offer to buy them another meal if this time they ordered 2 beers at the same time. Rules is rules and that was the only way for them to buy another drink. Norwegian beer was really nice and also very expensive in a bid to discourage over consumption,a real problem in the dark "days" of winter. Wages in the North were also higher to get people to work there

Why deflating the dough after has risen ? [baking]
geordief replied to Externet's topic in Other Sciences
I don't kneed at all these days.I just incorporate all the flour, let it rise and then turn it out into the tin to rise before putting it in oven. Not as good as from a good baker's but easy enough and perfect (normally) when fresh. -

geordief replied to kenny1999's topic in Other Sciences
There are some ingredients that are fairly disgusting but blend in ok like asa foetida (devil's dung) and fish sauce which they say can be used in meat dishes but I cannot bring myself to test. When I got fed doing the grape harvests I noticed it was common practice to finish (or begin) the soup by adding with a bit of wine in the bowl. -

Combined tastes probably don't "add up" so the taste of that chemical may get altered by the other flavours in the sauce or food. I drink coffee with my hot milk in the morning and never notice how fresh the filtered coffee I use is.It can be up to 2 days old and I wouldn't notice the difference. -
I have just come across the name of Karl Pearson and am interested because he is said to have been influential on Einstein. His book ,The Grammar of Science, seemingly written at the end of the 19th century is a window into intellectual thinking then ( I have barely begun it) https://www.google.ie/books/edition/The_Grammar_of_Science/k1c_AQAAIAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&printsec=frontcover I am extremely put off by his "devout racism" however(which I have not encountered so far in the book and may not feature) Is anyone familiar with him at all? I think he was pretty well considered as a scientist and ,so far has quite a bit of opinion regarding the value of teaching science and especially the scientific method which he thought should be inculcated throughout society although I suspect he may have been thinking of the "better classes". https://www.historyofdatascience.com/karl-pearson-creator-of-correlation/

Gravitational waves inside the Earth(or similar object)
geordief replied to geordief's topic in Relativity
Yes,thanks.I think that explanatory visualization was around at the time when the first gravitational waves were detected some years ago. @swansont explained you needed a "dumbbell" shape to produce the waves,I think and @joigus said that you only got g-wave emissions in extraordinary large systems comparable to the big bang although he did mention the gravitomagnetic phenomena that I think are yet to be detected experimentally. I have read a few comments elsewhere about the possibility of engineering micro black holes but it is just the odd comment I have seen and I think we may see cheap fusion power before they get around to marketing diy g-wave kits</sarc>
