aka Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. I have a question on this, something that's been annoying me for a while. One of the things that make this a deadly problem in humans is their genetic predisposition(there is a gene or two in our genome that make it possible or easier), meaning if you have the genes, then more likely you will develop it after eating the meat, etc. However, something that I'm curios on is this, how do the prions survive the cooking and or burning process? Assuming that the meat you've just BBQ'd is Well-Done as opposed to Medium-Rare or worse yet, Rare, where the cause and effect is very obvious. So, taking a slice from a cow which is known to have BSE, will it give you the BSE if the meat was thoroughly(Well-Done) cooked?
  4. you mean software piracy? or use of (malicious) hacking scrypts(hence the word script kiddie)? or conspiracy/intent of identity theft/fraud? they would need to prove what greater your intent was 1st. then, depending on what they think, as remember, this may have been a game for you and your friend, but nobody else is playing any games.
  5. bleh, script kiddies
  6. I dunno if anybody had a chance to see the set(let alone buy it), but the idea is very intriguing. However, my question is, since they include sample elements(including the radioactive one/s), what about the gasses? since there's no picture on their site, I guess that I'll look like an empty bottle then, or is there a way to stain these things? http://www.element-collection.com/ and more specifically this is what i'm talking about: http://www.element-collection.com/index2.htm

  9. Venus is visible when it makes passage around the sun or rather, infront of it. People have seen and recorded it w/o telescopes or other magnifications. You just had to be at the right place and at the right time to see it. Mercury and Jupiter were found probably in the same fashion.
  10. Oh, so I wasn't the only schmuck that though reading egyptial hieroglyphics make better sence then Ulysses.
  11. Unless you can get a hold of a uid of 0. Then it would simply be goooood times - provided that you're the only one on and all the admins are asleep I've tried and have hacking(ed) my own system for a while. windows 95 - me are absolutely worthless. win2k + is a bit of a challenge. but a linux/unix is an outright bitch to get in and more importantly to stay invisible to the kernels logs.
  12. Heh' date=' love my Linux messages From an administrative point of view, yes you do. you certainly did everything [i']knowingly[/i] that there may be consequences. From a techie point of view, same as above. May seem a little harsh, but tell me this, for what purpose did you set all that up and what were you going to do with the info that it would have given you? That is where the big problem comes in, and like I said, you're lucky that they gave you what they did. they could have done far more damage to you.
  13. Can I get a Standing Ovation for fafalone!!!!!
  14. i didn't realize you posted after, that means that my last statement will probably fare batter as it's own post: Last time I checked, in the black hole, time is meaningless. Thereby, if something gets into a blackhole (and survives, although the idea of being stretched infinitely thin, etc, kind of scares me) then if it was at all possible to(the object that was sucked into the black hole) come out of the black hole then it will go into the past, since it spent a lot of time suspended in an area that has no time. but even so, that same object can not, will not be able to do the same thing for the future.
  15. then once again' date=' what is the point of it all? if all you're doing is going to stand in the box for a certain amount of time(which is no more than a week or two) but when you get out, everything is still exactly the same? also, if such a notion was possible, then i suppose that since there are quite a few physicists alive still, then maybe they would dare take a stab at it. since noone has done it(at least not that i'm aware) then why bother about talking about the future what-if's or what could-be's? what force are you talking about, really? my crude understanding of physics tell me that since everything is made of atoms and these atoms move, then the notion of motion is what you're talking about........ but this just takes you to the above paragraph and nowhere closer to what you're trying to accomplish. granted, you can take a cardboard box, go in there, spend some time, and when you get out, you can 'think' that you've just been in an environment what has no notion of time or even took you back in time. and i'm off to talk to someone with a crystal ball...... tata {edit} LOL LOL ROFL. Uhm, that would be a "No Comment" thingie
  16. Well, you do realize that many-a-scientist work for the Military?? Not just NASA, but actually all Scientists have an option to work with or for them. Not because they want to create new means of destroying a nation or their own hidden agendas, but mainly because a Job for Military(especially for a Scientist) quite frequently means that it's a job with lots and lots of funds for the project, ability to test one's hypotheses with much greater results(more toys, more 'test' subjects, etc), a relatively solid job security(maybe more than in some civilian institutions), etc. Also, it may provide a stepping stone of making one's name highly distinguished amongst the scientific community. Hell, even with my studies/passion in Physical Anthropology, surely the military will offer plenty of work for me So to say that NASA scrapped Hubble simply because it didn't suite the needs of it's partner/employer/whatever (Military) is plain wrong.
  17. now that's a place i really, really wanna go to.
  18. What differance would that make? Can't say it any better than the last YT's post on the 'Burning' thing as he is absolutely right. {Edit} Thanks, I didn't think about the Gen. Practitioners. I was thinking something along the lines of Grand Parents, etc Besides, she's only 11, and may be in the same boat as me on that question. But then again, a Gen. Practitioner would be the last one I'd go to for such an issue.
  19. need I say anything more? By the way, YT, what do you mean by GP? I'm not getting that one.
  20. Great Link, Thanks Skye. By the way, MedLine was one of the 1st such systems I checked and it gave me that message. However, this link looks promising, even if not, then it has(or must have) lots of other goodness I'm interested in, after all, that stuff is for the Anthropology
  21. i need to buy a few of these http://www.arcrystalmine.com/Clusters.html i like this the most.....
  22. At what speed does a bullet travel anyway? Can we say for example that a shot fired from a Desert Eagle travel at mach 1? Is it slower or faster? Assuming even for a second that it does fly at mach 1 speeds, does this Newtonium fluid solidify much faster than this? I assume that it must. Or if the above example was too crude, tell me this YT, the gel must solidify proportionately faster then the fastest object hitting it(exluding photons). Am I right in at least this assumption? And if you can elaborate any further, how exactly does it solidify? You mean Crystallize?
