a few things: 1: Microsoft IS a monopoly. 2: PC's stuff(hardware and software) is by far cheaper than that on the macs. 3: macs are generally not game friendly as in the way of selection. 4: windows is easier to use

Are Cures The Cause?

i know. i also think it should be made clear that some things are a bit hard to simply be 'eradicated' ,forgotten and moved on. stop jumping to conclusions and looking for very meager points to rub in -

Since this bears relevance to this discussion: Courtesy of Nature -
Since this is a fairly common discussion and or interest, I thought this might be an interesting read for those that are curious. http://www.biomedcentral.com/news/20040527/01/ PS. Not sure if this is supposed to be in the news section or not, but since my last erroneous go at it, I'm feeling a bit reluctant of placing it there.

About a very annoyed function on the toolbar in WinXP..

1st of all, if you don't already have one, get a nice little thingie called: SpyBot: Search and Destroy then, in IE, check the installed Objects. IE > Options > Settings > View Objects i usually delete the things here that i have no idea what they are and especially if they list some kind of URL or other garbage in it's description then check the Add/Remove Programs in control panel -

yeah, kind of. it block the reception of normaly produced and needed ions/molecules. well, i don't think it helps you sleep better. faster, yeah, but not better. otherwise there wouldn't be a hangover when you wake up. -
i wonder what ever happened to http://www.step-thermodynamics.com , but they used to make very impressive cooling systems for the cpu's, and they weren't too terribly expensive, but alas, that site no longer works, damnit:mad: but with their stuff, overclocking cpu was not a problem.

function of sleep

if you're more into biology, it pretty much works very similarly as in biology and gene transcription and the uses of lactose molecules, operons and active/inactive repressors that bind or not to a piece of genetic segment. -the above is how bacteria does it - human transcription process is a bit more complicated, but very similar -
function of sleep

it has to to with the passage or blockage of ions at the synaptic cleft. it kind of works like a "key and lock" or "hand and glove" thing as they say. the molecule found is alcohol let's say looks like a triangle. when these molecules flow around in the brains, if there's a trianglular shape found at the neuron that this alcohol molecule could slide in, then it will. once it's in, it will block the passage of the other molecules that are normaly produced by the brain, then it can influence the neuronal activity/behavior, at least for a while. sorry, i'm a little vague and rough on details -
that would depend on your definition of cute then, wouldn't it? personally, i think the angler fish is cute (really i am)

oh yeah, the other part of your question, brain is very complicated and hard to understand - aka pandora's box. it might actually be the case that we'll be able to decipher all of genome and be able to control it at will, before we can do the same for the brain. it's just That complicated. -

no. i take it you did not read my last post in that marijuana thread, did you? smoking marijuana does not cause brain damage, but it slows it down. as the article or linky says, in some cases, even the heavy or prolonged use of it can be reversed. the problem with marijuana smokers would be their difficulties in recalling memories or concentration, etc. rem sleep is more or less in real time. meaning if you've just had a rem sleep for 20 minutes, and right at the end, someone woke you up, you can probably recall (from memories) what you've just dreamt about and be able to talk about it for up to 20 minutes. but the longer the time has past since your last rem cycle, the less things you can remember from it. -
you're right, and nowadays this would be perfectly doable. take that dish thingie to collect sun light and then place a lens towards teh center but at a distance from the dish so that all the light is focused as a fine line of light........ but to do so back then, that is the question......... by the way, i'm still hoping that someone will enlighten me on what that dish thing is called.
