  1. Does anyone know the most effective way to prevent anybody from hacking into your computer? My emails and probably my computer was hacked into, and on Symantic Anti-Virus I had to delete a trojan that was on my computer. I changed my email, and the password for this account just in case. Does anyone know how to prevent it in the first place?
  2. I'm having trouble accessing your site from my home computer for some unknown reason. Everytime I try to go on, it says that there is some error, or that it cannot find the site. I don't know what to do!
  3. I would ensure that Big Brother-like people and/or his equivalents are killed in the aftermath of the apocalypse. After reading dystopia literature (of which all take place after a nuclear war or some other cataclysmic event), I would say that this would be one of the top priorities. So we could prevent a Brave New World, 1984, We, Fahrenheit 451, Equilibrium, etc. from ever coming into existence. It would be enormously difficult because in such an event, a lot of people will mistakenly look up to such models and people as symbols of hope...
  4. he he he. Looks like we still have flat earthers living around after all. As for the site itself, its a total joke.
  5. How do you guys think you would fare in a post apocalyptic world? Just imagine, civilization and organized society has suddenly been wiped out, and you and a few survivors must make the best of things...
  6. In my high school, my Latin classes are going to Italy sometime in April. The only other countries I've ever been to are Canada and Mexico, I've only stayed in North America (I live in the US). I look forward to going to Italy, and I always wanted to go to both Japan (Tokyo) and Russia (Siberia and Moscow).
  7. How exactly does a railgun work, and what uses are there for it other than as a weapon? I know it uses some sort of magnetic field to push projectiles out, but how exactly does it do it?
  8. Just how big is the universe anyway??? I know that there won't be exact figures available for some time, but what is the estimate of the size of the Universe? I know that it has to be bigger than what can be observed through Earth's sky.
  9. I went to the local bar where they served some of the strongest beer in the universe for intoxication, and I ranted to various aliens about my pathetic existence for a life...
  10. That was my point, it does violate the laws of physics. I was listing down stuff that I see that did violate such laws. And I know that there are aspects that aren't in establish science, but it seems to me that these aspects allow you to break the laws that are established.
  11. You know, it seems to me that many modern sci-fi books, and sci-fi TV shows and movies and videogames, feature a lot of silly science. Most of what I read in the books are either very inaccurate or not possible scientifically. Other times, I find that some books, especially in the Dune series, find some excuse to put some sort of medieval hocus-pocus magic crap in it. Another thing that really bothers me, especially in modern science fiction, is that they tend to use a lot of big words to explain how their stuff works, without actually explaining it in a way that makes any sense. (e.g. reversing the polarity). Also, I tend to see a lot of societies ruled by kings and emperors, with people who could be granted titles of nobility, or in that the economic system represents that of mercantilism or early capitalism, even though there is no way that such a society could possibly form in the future. I know that the possibility of a dictatorship of some sort will always be around, but it won't be anything like kings and emperors ruling over it. Also, any warfare that is described in the science fiction books resembles that of the way wars were fought in both WWI and WWII, with the weapon systems working more or less the same way they did back then (i.e. excessive collateral damage, no guidence systems, no information or electronic warfare, obsolete battleship technology, weapons systems that operate only in the visible light spectrum, etc.) Yes, the weapons involved have vastly more power, but in terms of the way they are used.... come on! And then of course, there are various nuiances such as laser weapons and railguns that have recoil, hearing sound in outer space, aliens that don't have any unique language system or a unique way of communicating, anti-matter shields that don't annihilate with the regular matter particles, robots as strong as superman, etc. Mind you, I do know that there is a lot of technology, inventions, natural phenomena or physical laws that haven't been discovered or thought of yet. And there are some good science fiction books that I have read that are very good and have a lot of scientifically or sociologically feasible things in it (e.g. books by Jules Verne and some modern ones like Philip K Dick and the Martian Chronicles by Kim Stanley). But sometimes I find that the majority of the science fiction out there are either unimaginative or don't seem to follow along with any of the known laws of physics, or just otherwise have some abysmally boneheaded or stupid thing in it.
  12. We should make this a sticky???
  13. its very, very unlikely that we are alone at all. I'm pretty sure there are millions of intelligent species like us in our galaxy alone (200 billion stars in our galaxy, and about 10% of that are yellow stars like our own sun. Red dwarfs can theoretically support life too). the one thing that would make contact between these races problematic would be the distance between these systems, and the fact that the various races may be at much different technological and sociological levels than our own.
  14. came to me and said that they had a message for me. The message said...
  15. Why do you want to make pure chlorine??? Isn't chlorine poisonous?
  16. Nice!!! I actually forgot about the nerds lol.
  17. realized that I was being followed by someone who apparently went back with me...
  18. Yes, you heard me correctly guys, the end is near. Since we cannot stop the inevitable, sides must be chosen and lives will be lost. When the end comes, which forces of the apocalypse will you side with? The choices are: -Anti-Christ -Tech-Comm -The Matrix -Brotherhood of Nod -Predators -Pan-Asian Coalition -Borg -Big Brother and the forces of Ingsoc -Zion Resistance -Skynet
  19. I found a smoke grenade and threw it on the ground to make my escape. I ran through the halls of the installation and...
  20. What would happen if you did go across a black hole, assuming you: -Did not experience spaghettification -Did not hit the singularity -Did not get yourself fried by the enormous amounts of electromagnetic radiation being emitted -Or just otherwise lived to tell the tale. There are various theories stating that you could end up in another universe or in another place in the universe. But I'm wondering what your thoughts on it are and what it looks like going through a black hole.
  21. I thought it would be appropriate to put a post about this in this section. Basically, for those of you who don't know, Autism is a neurological disorder that interferes with the ability to communicate. Symptoms include delayed speech or language impairment, poor social skills, some features of obsessive compulsive disorder(s), and in some cases (usually low functioning autism), deficiencies in cognitive abilities. I put this up mainly because I have high functioning autism. More specifically, I have Asperger's Syndrome, which is on the mild side of the autistic spectrum disorders. High functioning autism basically means that the person does not have any cognitive or language deficiencies, but still have other characteristics with associated with autism (most notably, poor social skills). They also have normal to above average IQ's (I scored a whopping 165 on the IQ test long ago). There are many discussions that one can have on this thread on it such as: -Who has it -Who knows about it and what do you know -Who here researches it -Personal experiences -Questions -Historic Figures -And other stuff you may think of
  22. I did a massive project on serial killers in school just recently in my Ethics Seminar Class, and a lot what you notice is that serial killers may have had some sort of personality disorder. What caused it remains unknown, but they do exhibit abnormal behaviors when they are young, and in many cases they did have some traumatic childhood experience(s). I researched Ted Bundy, and he appeared to have some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder (He killed only people who resembled his former girlfriend) and anti-social personality disorder (Throughout his life he is documented to have avoided any and all social interaction, and took pride in his manipulative abilities). With the exception of Ted Bundy and a few others, one major similarity between all the serial killers that I found interesting is that they liked the attention they got from killing their victims (Examples of such people who really liked attention was Ramirez and the Zodiac Killer, who both sent taunting messages to the police and bragged about their rampage). Having knowledge of abnormal psychology does help defining why they do the things they do, but it is still under debate on whether or not they did it because of nurture or nature (Ted Bundy did not have ANY traumatic childhood experiences whatsoever, nor was he abused. In fact, he lived in a somewhat normal household).
  23. Anyone here have an interest in the subject, or are experts in this field? I've had an interest in the creation of "Strong AI" for quite a while, and kept up with the research that is going on with it. Mind you, when I mean Strong AI, I mean computers that can actually think and have consciousness. There is some very interesting stuff and research going on in this field. In a show on Discovery Channel that I saw about 2 years ago, they described the various experiments going on in Japan and in MIT concerned with programming a computer to be sentient. Particularly in Japan, they are trying to program machines that have a genuine personality and emotions. In MIT, they taught a robot how to play air hockey.
  24. When suddenly a group of rebels raiding the installation broke in, shot the guards and freed me. I was then... P.S. Snail, don't worry about it. Just think of those "rules" as guidelines. It doesn't have to be exactly 15-25 words.
  25. How do you guys think we'll fare if aliens were to suddenly invade the Earth and take it over? It seems a little silly, but I know that it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Plus, I think that the sci-fi depictions of it are rather corny and have unrealistic, cheap-shot solutions to it too. Personally, I know for certain that we will probably get stomped on by their vastly superior technology in the event of an alien invasion.
