Matt880 , I sought clarity about what you had meant by ' your dissertation ' because in post #56 you give the impression that you and others have written some . Now , if you are here to find an answer to a question such as ' who can test my food for possibly illegally administered prescription drugs ? ' that gives one impression as to your motives but mentioning the writings of dissertations gives another . Now Matt880 , you think we are all lab technicians , post #64. I am not . But I do know that if you take my posts in isolation there are plenty of contact names to E-mail and you can get quotes and further information . I am trying to help you Matt880 , be good !

Is Mohammed ever known to have had a good laugh because of a funny incident ? Did Jesus ever in all of the literature about him ever have a laugh at somebody ? If they didn't , is laughing wrong ?
-
I think the point is being missed here . I am saying that when a company puts an advertisement on television saying , look how green this fertiliser makes your lawn , that is a false claim , because the colour you see depends on the colour settings you have chosen for the television . I am applying the same argument to the claims of colour and shine of hair .

Can force be measured in volts ? I hope this doesn't sound like the same question .
-
Dr.Rocket , this is a question , I don't claim to be advanced to any level I am seeing being discussed . You say voltage is not force . Why then is electro motive force measured in volts .

Is electro motive force measured in volts ?

What then is Electro Motive Force ?

Lemur , ask mooeypoo a one line technical question .

Did Jesus ever have a laugh , did Mohammed ever have a giggle ?

I'm not claiming that the models hair doesn't look good due to the use of the product . I'm claiming that the person viewing the advertisement on the television can't perceive whether it does , as they claim , or it doesn't , which they don't , because the television settings are randomly selected and there can only be a very small probability that the settings are totally representative of the actual view . And , I don't know what a Rocky Mountain cliff diving turtle is , I'm a European . And , snake oil in your hair , what's next ? Edit : spelling

How Do You Define a Genius and What is One to You?
Hal. replied to lamp's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Here is a view to start things . There are people who are talented at any given activity . Then there are people who are exceptionally brilliant at any given activity . Then there are those called genius' . Don't try to follow the rules to be a genius as if you promise too much you may not deliver . If you are exceptionally brilliant at an activity , be happy at that . -
I must choose an example for the question , so it will have to be this . Companies routinely advertise their latest hair colouring products on television as giving beautiful shine and colour . Their dramatisations show models who move their hair side to side after using the product in question and all looks wonderful . But , because the ' colour and shine ' are from one perspective a function of the television settings that a person has chosen , shouldn't these advertisements be banned because of what they really are , false ! ?

Brainteaserfan , you post the source in the Wiki discussion section ! Post a link back here , if there is a link , where I can see what goes on in wiki discussions . Bare in mind , there may be a few more mathmatical interpretations of the word ' Intercept '. Book Name : Calculus , A New Horizon , Sixth Edition Author : Howard Anton ( Drexel University ) Year : 1999 Publisher : John Wiley & Sons , Inc. ISBN : 0 - 471 - 15306 - 0 Section : Appendix B Page : A 20

We , in our country were so tired of hearing the Fword , that we invented another Fword that was spelt like the original Fword but instead of a letter u , it has a letter e . This allows us to say plenty of happy vulgar sounding approximations without being vulgar .

Matt880 , Can you explain what you mean by ' your dissertation ' ?

Matt880 , did you try the lab in the Republic of Ireland ?

These 2 links contain the first meaning where an intercept is taken to be the point where the axis is intersected . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Root_of_a_function http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-intercept The following book gives the meaning of an intercept as being the distance to the point from the origin ( 0 , 0 ) . Calculus 6th Edition , Howard Anton , 1999 , John Wiley and Sons , Appendix B , page A20 .
-
Brainteaserfan , I read the information at the link you provided and here I'll give a meaning for an intercept that as far as I know is totally correct . The link you give has the intercept's as being the actual points where the lines cross the axes . I have always used the actual points where the lines cross axes to calculate the distance from these points to the origin ( 0 , 0 ) and these distances are called the ' intercepts ' . If a line crosses the x axis at the point ( 8 , 0 ) then the intercept using the method of your link is the actual point ( 8 , 0 ) . If a line crosses the x axis at the point ( 8 , 0 ) then the intercept using the method that I describe is a value of 8 .
