I think it is important for people to realise this is an ideal situation . I wouldn't build such a circuit and use it unless someone like TonyMcC gave his approval . We are talking about taking 16 amps from a 160 volt supply , 2560 Watts . That's dangerous .

4 amps flow through the 16 ohm resistance that is on the far right . This is in parallel with another 16 ohm resistance . Both paths provide equal opposition to electric current , so , the current through each of them is 4 amps . Just to the left of the ammeter there is a junction . The current entering this junction is equal to the current leaving this junction . The current leaving is 8 amps , so 8 amps has entered . Directly below this junction there is a point named z which is above another junction . Any current entering into the top junction is equal to any current leaving the bottom junction . So , where there is a voltmeter shown there is a current of 8 amps flowing past one of it's terminals and 8 amps flowing past the other of it's terminals . The two 16 ohm resistances are the equal of one 8 ohm resistance . This equal resistance is in parallel with the 8 ohm resistance that is in the loop on the far left . They provide equal opposition to the flow of current . So , there is 8 amps flowing in one of the directions away from the junction that is to the right of the 2 ohm resistance and there is 8 amps flowing from the other option . 16 amps entered the junction and 16 amps joins back together again at the junction below the point y . I think the currents are known in each part of the loop on the far left , now . There is 16 amps through the 2 ohm resistance , 8 amps through the 8 ohm resistance and 16 amps through the 4 ohm resistance . The volt drop across a resistance is equal to the multiplication of the current and the resistance . Across the 2 ohm resistance this is 32 volts , across the 8 ohm resistance this is 64 volts and across the 4 ohm resistance this is 64 volts . The total volt drop in this loop is 160 volts . The sum of the volt drops is equal to the sum of the volt rises . The power source is therefore 160 volts . What I have done in going from one part to the next using mental arithmetic is easy in this case and this approach can be extremely difficult to keep track of in more complicated circuits . Hal_2011

Marat , do you know of any way of thinking that describes the devil as being more than one entity ?

I suspect you imply your confusion stems from your previous education . Any engineering course I have ever taken has made it clear , within the first few minutes of the first lecture , that temperature will be measured in the Système international d'unités and will be in kelvin , it is the fundamental unit of measurement . If a person wants to go and use their own preferred temperature scale , that person doesn't have to ask for any permission , but must convert to the required standard when necessary . If you could show me where I called William Thomson the world's best engineer , I would be so greatful . In fact , I merely introduced him as a notable man , who in my mind is currently battling with Isambard Kingdom Brunel , amongst others who may or may not make an appearance here , for my conclusion in a future post as my choice for who I think is the world's top engineer .

How Do You Define a Genius and What is One to You?

That is what a hypothetical allows me to do . It allows me to suggest what could happen based on an imaginary situation . I am not stating it as fact that in 400 years time there will be 300 000 000 people living in Australia . I did also have my rough estimate based loosely on the current population of the U.S.A. , which has been colonised for 500 years . The topic of discussion is whether there is anything bad to say about Australia . It would be bad to see 300 000 000 people crammed into badly planned cities and a local indigenous population treated badly when there exists plenty of time to do things properly . Of course , I may not be around in 2411 A.D. , I'll have to have a thread on reincarnation at the end of which I'll decide if I should change that way of thinking .

Can you point out a country where a 13 fold increase in population wouldn't place stress on available resources? If not, relevance? The relevance of my post is that this country called Australia will be a very different place in the future and if the people of the future dont want to say very much that is bad about it , then there is a lot to be done between now and then to provide for it's needs .

I did say , " .......... in a bizarre Godly logical way .......... " , which I intended to mean that using God's logic , God would understand why God made God's Shroud look this age . I am assuming the Shroud has been shown to be very young .

This is Isambard Kingdom Brunel and for a read of his history , thanks to the folks over at the wiki , click here .

' Imagine ' implies a hypothetical . 300 000 000 people living in Australia in 400 years time is a guess for the purpose of illustration of the point that a lot of people could need a lot of things not so far off down the road in the future , 400 years is not too long away and 400 years ago wasn't very long ago either .

Imagine Australia with 300 000 000 people living there in 400 years time , all needing water , summer holidays , history sources , schools , budweiser , sunshades and millions of other things .

JohnB , if you want to call me anything then use the appropriate words . I won't be offended but the powers that be may . Send me a personal message and I'll get my dictionary of 21st century profanities ready for replies . I'm amazed you had all that time to put those words together , sarcasm , innuendo , etc , I thought you'd be busy putting dinner on the bahbee . Got to go , Neighbours is starting ! Last thing JohnB , you should think about learning English , It looks like you don't know what you are talking about . ................................................................................................................................................................................................................

There is not only a scientific approach to this . Let's say that beyond nearly all doubt it was shown that the shroud of Turin is not as old as to place it at a time of Jesus Christ . These methods were scientific enough to satisfy all the scientists who need to be satisfied for it to become accepted as the explanation of age . This is God we are talking about . Why couldn't God just make it look that way , in a bizarre Godly logical way to truly test our faith ? If God made the universe I'd think a little radioactive carbon dating manipulation , for example , would be no problem .

Some say Australia can't begin to discard it's ties to the past unless it truly becomes an independent republic .

This is a hypothetical . If an object moved 1 mm per 3600 seconds and if a person said they could see it move with the unaided eye over any few seconds of observation taken in this time interval , I would suppose this is extremely unlikely . Where does the speed start to get plausible ? 1mm/10min ? , 1mm/2min ? , 1mm/30sec ? , 1mm/5sec ? , etc

What is the slowest possible motion that a human can perceive as a moving object ?

What's the most dangerous country for foreign workers to work in?
Hal. replied to Mr Rayon's topic in The Lounge
Any country where the cost of living is way below what the cost of living is in the workers homeland . Take $20 out of your pocket to pay for something when a ' local ' earns next to nothing and you better watch your back . -
For Christianity , though I don't know if the Christian churches actually use such a pagan way of thinking , there is a way to know when Easter is , it is on the first Sunday after the first full moon after equinox . Equinox is the solar occurence , which makes me see the sun worshippers having their festival first . Then , full moon is the lunar occurence , which has me seeing the moon worshippers having their festival next . Then , Christianity is third in line after the two ' religions ' of the older status quo .

Stonehenge is aligned to the summer solstice sunrise ( probably amongst many other objects of the heavens ) . Is it designed to be in alignment ? or does it just do this because of the same type of chance of a matchstick having been designed to be used to pick your dinner from between your teeth ?

This is a way of looking at things . I hope I'm following the general theme and it's branches of what is being discussed . If you look at your watch on the way to mass it serves a religious purpose and if you look at your watch to cook a pizza with a gas oven it serves a scientific purpose . The lines between religion and science are blurred . I think a lot of these places have multiple uses , because they are so old , one of which is quite simply a clock .

JohnB , you can't argue with a natural instinct for equality . I have that . .......................... later .......................... , Do you see the avatar photo of A Tripolation . I don't look at that and say , " look at that pinkman " . Is it natural not to do that , JohnB ? In the image of the 2 lad's above , I didn't look at that and say to myself , " look at the 2 coloured lad's " . When you said " colour " in your post that made me go back to the image and have a look to try to actually see the ' colour ' . I'm not a bullshitter . And , judging by what I've seen people being called in these forums I would say the use of the term bullshitter , especially as I am not calling you it , but using it in defence , is mild .

JohnB , do you know what ! The world is a great place . If you've been alive as long as I have you may have a natural sense of looking at a photo and not seeing that a person has a skin colour , only that there is a person or people as is the case above . I JohnB didn't even notice they had a skin colour until you mentioned it .
