I am currently using Firefox... And the reason in my case is that every time I open my hotmail in IE, it apears error on page all the time on right bottom of the window......cant fix this problem, then I use Firefox... In my opinion, Firefox is very good, nice and simple to use, having fewer buttons on the window more over, Firefox is mostly compatible with IE, you can also get My Favourite from IE directly to Firefox... but dave, dont Unix goes in 2 types: AT&T and BSD? Any way, maybe I have to ask again....why do Linux and Unix have same commands and can use same shell? since they are 2 different kernels... Secondly, which one is better on stabibility/performance? Albert

Back to my first 2 messages, I still dont get answers yet..... Waiting for the responds... ps. thx to Sayonara and dave for the replies

Oh yes, mostly, I also want to ask.....Which one has better performance/stabibility? Unix or Linux? Albert

To admiral, Why do I have to buy FreeBSD in order to have it? I can download the iso files from LinuxIso, or maybe it is just an evaluation version? secondly, I find no difference between Unix and Linux....both have kernel of Unix, to me, just like Windows Xp and NT, both have NT kernel.... any way, any help on the software compability between Unix and Linux? Guys, Thx for sharing ur expiriences... Albert

To admiral, thx for your respond.... I find it helpful but I dont think all Linux distros are fast, and stable. Esp the live-CD ones. On the other hand, I find Linspire is unstable too, but it does work like Windows, maybe that's the problem? Any way, Why I have to buy freeBSD for $100? in linuxiso, it is free How about Mandrake? I find very less information about it than Slackware and SuSe. Albert

I have currently tried Linspire and Knoppix....... And find them both tend slower performance and worse stability than Windows Xp........ Knoppix is a Live CD version of Linux... And Linspire is now as stable as Xp.... Any way, what's the point of Linux over Xp? ALbert

I think this problem is better explained by Mandrake users.... Buffer I/O error on device hdc Media error Above is the message while I am installing Mandrake v10 It takes a long time on repeating this message, and finally Mandrake cannot recover this... Any help? Albert

I know Mac has a really good performance better than Windows, but its softwares, unlike Linux, is free-sourced, and I dont want to waste my windows softwasres and all the money on buying new softwares for that...... For Linux, I mean, why Linspire is so slow, ...... ??? To admiral, as what Lindows said, Linspire is the easiest Linux OS...And while in the installation, it rarely has any setting at all....... Lindows just want to make LinspireLinux to be as easy as possible, but not for its performance...... More over, I just want to ask, does Mandrake support all windows hardwares, esp my PCMICIA wireless Lan card? Will be apreciated for the responds.. Albert

http://www.pcworld.co.nz/PCWorld/pcw.nsf/0/ACC21A8F154C34B0CC256AED006F7668?OpenDocument Above is a link of the comparison of Windows and Linux.... As what it is in that page, some people still think that Windows Xp sucks....but to me, I think Windows Xp has a really good performance rather than Linux... Linux is only good for free legal softwares...it is the cost that makes it advantageous, but due to my experience, Linspire works very slow compared to Xp....I was surprised by that, since it has an Unix kernel.... I think the reason why people hate Xp so much is because Microsoft has a monopoly on OS.. It is a disadvantage for the customers...but a advantage for Microsoft..... Albert

Hey guys, I have just installed Linspire on my laptop........ It works damn slower than Xp......and for the hardware, it cant even detect my PCMCIA wireless Lan card...... Linspire is worse on its compability with hardware and stabibility than Xp.... I think I would give Mandrake a try, but, since Cohen said that both stabibility is the same....I think I would rather stick with PC....... Linspire is just an easy version of Linux for learning purpose.....No worth to buy it. To me, Linux's advantages are just its free-source code/softwares, and less cost.... Since I havent tried Mandrake yet, any body can tell about it? Albert
