    Why do we age?

Free Radicals play a minor role in aging... not to mention there is almost noway to prevent it
  2. anyone know exactly where these things are located (like in what fruits, vegetables, etc?) and how they affect anti-oxidation?
  3. ... are you freakin nuts? no offense but i find it hard to not to be able to find any info on testicular cancer on google..
  4. for me.. running and drinking lots of milk made me grow (like a lot) as compared to my parents
  5. the chances of creating a human hybrid with anything other than a chimp are very very slim.... the genes have to make-up for the differences in homeostasis, biological clocks, metabolism the list goes on an on
  6. #1 the integral from -infinity to +infinity of the function: e^-(x^2) #2 the general integral of the function |x^n| not written as two integrals btw i'm looking for an ALGEBRAIC method, not a graphical method
  7. its been 4 pages and i still have no clue what he's trying to argue, i thought i knew, but i guess i didnt
  8. agreed. I give up on this topic....
  9. his body's circadian clock should be bitching like hell
  10. If you ask me, hunting for leisure is a very very bad thing for the environment see that its the prime method (maybe next to deforestation) for species extinction. If we have the food to supply ourselves with, why bother killin animals for fun
  11. Also I'm still not clear as to what you mean by environment, environment as in Social Hiearchy as a whole or environment in general? (trees, grass, cows, moo.) holy crap you made me post 5 times in a row.
  12. Now your really starting to make me mad, WHAT THE !@#$ does philosophy have anything to do with this?
  13. Again I will cite Huntington's, the cause of it has been isolated to repeats of the nucleotide sequence CAG. (http://www.healthatoz.com/healthatoz/Atoz/ency/huntington_disease.jsp) A person is either born with or without Huntington's. There is absolutely no environmental factor that triggers it. The more CAG repeats there are the earlier it will start to show its signs. Thus is my argument: A person with Huntington can be born in a perfectly clean environment yet still develop Huntington's BECAUSE it was predetermined by his/her genes the day they were born. And as for the nature-nuture paradigm, the nuture part specifically refers to the environmental factors along with societal biotic factors.
  14. I think he got his degree from a creationist college.... else there is no way someone can be so oblivious towards the role of genetics in neurosciences
  15. holy crap. Ramin, from what sources do you base all your inferences on. What you have previously stated exactly ties back to Mokele's previous statement. What you are arguing infact is that environmental factors directly affect the genes of various organisms. Therefore you just proved to yourself that genes do play a role because they are the substrate (for lack of a better term) that environmental factors play on. Also you have offered no examples nor factual information as opposed to Mokele. Before you seriously get me into a pointless debate (wtf?). Tell me this first: would you call x-rays an environmental factor? if yes/no, explain why and include factual information along with your sources. Secondly, and more importantly: Would you say that Hunting Disease is caused by environmental factors with little or no play done by the genetics? Also another personal question? What university do you goto and how much background biology and neuroscience experience have you had? Have you ever even read on at least the basic pathway of protein synthesis? as for this quote:
  16. Wasnt being heterozygous for sickle cell anemia provides a natural genetic immunity against it?
  17. although i'm not sure about eyes, I'm sure that hair color follows the rule of polygenic inheritance. In that there is more than one allele that controls the hair color of the offspring. (someone verify?)
  18. how did you isolate these strains?
  19. it would be called a diameter.....
  20. maybe this is due to linkage?
  21. are you crazy? you think we can bypass the millions of years of evolution required by the adaptive natures of the diseases in 50 years?
  22. SFN was my first word.
  23. I dare you to name it SFN, maybe we'll get more hits that way
