I'm a high school junior, and I'm struggling to find out what I want to do for a career. I haven't been able to find the answers some of my questions. Hopefully you guys can help me out.
Here is what I know: I want to get into medical research (preferably not in academia), involving either disease or drugs. I decided not to become a doctor because I didn't want to dedicate my life to my work (although I am willing to make some sacrifices for my career). When I go to college, I'll probably major in biochemistry, although I am open to other majors if you guys think it would be a better fit. Feel free to add any other advice you may have.
Here are the questions I have:
- What job opportunities are available to medical researchers involving disease/drugs?
- Is a Ph.D. needed for this type of research, or is a MS suitable?
- Are there many commercial opportunities available, or these types of positions available solely in academia?
- Does this type of work allow for a personal life?
Thanks for any help!
