Nobody I've quizzed can explain to me what "big government" really means to them. It's this sketchy demon that they're afraid of without knowing exactly why. It's bad, that's all they know. The definition of big government I use is what the Republicans seem to want, an invasive body that sticks it's nose in my personal choices of lifestyle, and demands intervention in my wife's bodily choices. The Republican leadership (ha!) is the worst judgemental, uncaring, intellectually barren group of politicians I've ever seen. They regularly bounce between raping the Constitution and brandishing copies of it. They want no barriers to free trade except those they impose to benefit friends and funders. They have done more to grow the worst parts of government than any group before them. Their big government helps them clamp onto the public tit tighter, so they can make sure all the advantages are theirs. Is it making the government too big to ask that we stop marginalizing these agencies that improve lives nationwide, instead of cutting their funding to use for something that only benefits the wealthy?

Good friend of mine who works for the EPA tells me they're funded through September, and after that they're expecting the usual Republican abdication of environmental responsibility for an agency they believe robs them of profit.

This demonstrates Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle. I have absolutely no idea where you're coming from now that I know exactly how slow you are! -
I'd really like to stick to what we know and rise above mere name-calling and insults. I don't like this administration one bit, but I sure don't need any more bias related to it. I found this Politico article very revealing. Kushner's father went to jail for campaign improprieties. The stage has been set. http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/05/25/jared-kushner-russia-fbi-donald-trump-215191

Are you implying that, with a nuclear reactor, you don't need anything else? I found a company that makes compressors for nuclear plants, and one of the things they use air for is to kickstart emergency generators. Do you really need any more reasons? Why are you so concerned that there are air compressors at a nuclear plant?

Whataboutism is really powerful, isn't it? The Soviets really hit the mark with that propaganda technique. It even works when you use it.

I missed the part where the Dems blamed the win on hacking. Who claimed the voting machines were hacked? Unless you mean all the fake Russian newsfeeds on the voters FB pages? Or the continuous misinformation campaign all round? Or the hacking of both Republican and Democrat email, but only the Democrat's were leaked?

My objection was to the doctor's reference to their opinion on the cause of arthritis, which they described in relation to "toxins" (a crackpot buzzword that has precise meanings in science): An emphatic, overgeneralized opinion by a man who wasn't a medical doctor, and could never prove his affiliations with the various universities he claimed to have attended. -

Remember back when people asked questions when they didn't know things? -
Isn't that just a completely different question that shouldn't belong in this thread about why we still believe in a god? Can you try to focus, please? The multiverse theory doesn't compete with concepts of god(s), so it's no wonder the argument fades so quickly. You'll have to explain to me why you think atheism is intellectually bankrupt. It sounds like something you heard someone else say and thought it sounded cool. It means nothing, though. Atheism isn't a single stance, and it's not even a belief in most circumstances, but more a lack of belief. Theism is short on reason, so I wonder why you think it's intellectually superior to a-theism.

I get the feeling you read about something you don't understand, and are now trying to ridicule it. Perhaps you could link us to the story so we can get some context? Right now this seems like you're objecting to a fairly standard piece of equipment in a facility that could use it in many different ways, and asking us to list them. I'm not invested enough in your questions to do this.

! Moderator Note Violates Rule 2.7. Members must be able to discuss the subject without going to outside links. You can try again if you wish, but you should track down the original study and post some conclusions and excerpts from that, not this bullshit FB page. Any other supportive evidence should be mentioned as well, since the evidence for an African origin is deep. How about a little rigor here, since this is science and all? Thread closed.

Why do you question the need? Are you sure the compressors are for air, and not hydrogen for cooling the turbines and core? Alternatively, some backup generators use compressed air to help them start. I would expect a power facility to be fully equipped, and I don't see why an air compressor is outside those parameters.

Do not know... what you're talking about. I tried, but... no.

Since this has nothing to do with fiber twisting, I'll assume it's a weird and very poor response to the title of the late Steven Vogel's book, Why the Wheel is Round. I highly suggest you read it and add to your knowledge.

Well put zapatos, and well found iNow. I can't wait to be accosted by the next devoutee. I will ask, "Does God disagree with you about anything?" Priceless. Evidence. You use the word, but I do not think it means what you think it means.

As I understand the problem, because Kushner was seeking a setup from the Russian end using their systems, there was no guarantee any of the communications would be monitored on the US side. He was willing to rely totally on Russian security for a pipeline directly to the Oval Office. At least with all the backchannel methods we've heard about recently, we have classified records of what transpired (many of Kennedy's communications with Russia and Cuba have been declassified). This is just sneaky sneakiness from lying liars.

We see folks all the time here who had the attitude that science in high school was a waste of time, or too hard. Now, they obviously feel they missed out, and come here to pose questions and fill in the gaps, and that's a good thing. The worst of them still have the attitude that they don't need the education, and they come here to ridicule theory they don't understand and make all kinds of uninformed guesses as to how reality works. Please, please, please, use the opportunity for an education that the whole country is willing to finance because of your potential. It's not as much as it could or should be, but you should be a sponge for knowledge and take every advantage. You're human, and you're smarter than anything else on the planet, because that's what humans get. No claws or sharp teeth, no fur or ultra-dense muscle. Intelligence is our edge. Everything you know adds layers of sophistication to every decision you'll make for the rest of your life. The more informed you are, the more access you have to the best opportunities every minute you're alive.

It's much more complicated, but at their heart religions are an emotional explanation developed emotionally. They aren't rational in the least, although at the time of their creation, I'm sure many people thought they were. Later attempts to rationalize them and make them sound reasoned fall short, imo. As we realize more and more benefit from reasoned explanations, and less from beliefs not based in the natural world, I think religions will become more of a quaint oddity in line with most other superstitions. On the other hand, since they're emotionally based, it doesn't take much to make believers go off the deep end. I think it's important for rational people to take the null stance (no need for religion) as opposed to claiming religions/gods are wrong/don't exist. That's a stance almost guaranteed to bring out the emotions in a religious person, and blind them to any reason you may show. Religion will always be around as long as people think with their hearts first.

I can't figure out a way anyone could say something like this without being ethically barren, since it seems to excuse all manner of illicit activity. The possible communication line sought would have been outside our own government's security. This is espionage, plain and simple, done for profit against the People of the United States.

These are businesses, not investments like your cocoa product idea. The difference is in who puts up the funds and who does the actual work. Telling you about investment ideas could help drive profits up for me in lots of situations. Telling you about business ideas gives me no benefit at all, unless I get to be a partner.

Or admit that, after discussing it with peers, the idea had major flaws that call its feasibility into question. Or reach the rational conclusion that most ideas are wrong, and this was one of them. Or step back and ask if the goal can be accomplished with a less radical approach. Anything but walk away from the discussion.
