I am beginning to get one clear signal though. What he says will be outlandish, frightening, and shocking, and what will really happen will not be that bad. BUT, we'll end up allowing things that are MUCH WORSE than anything we'd allow anyone else to do. Trump can threaten to take 100% of something away that we'd never let anyone else touch more than 10% of. He shocks us with his outlandishness, and when he eventually settles on taking 30% away from us, we're so happy he didn't really take it all. Four years of Tin Men swindles, coming right up!

My answer is based on the moment in speciation (a moment which doesn't really exist) where one species becomes another. An almost-chicken had to lay the first actual chicken egg.

A very scholarly friend told me at an office Christmas party last night about a thesis he wrote while at university. In it, he presented the idea that God kept Heaven's gates open, and that all people were invited in the afterlife. God Himself imposes no strictures. He can allow suffering, because everyone is allowed into Heaven. The twist is, Heaven is so awesome to behold, so perfectly meant to be the afterlife of humanity, that when you stand in front of the open gates, you judge yourself to be worthy or not. If you've been a decent and loving person, you'll have no problem allowing yourself to walk on in. And if you aren't a good person, you won't be able to inflict yourself on Heaven, no matter what. Instead, you'll stand at the gates of Heaven, unable to go in until you deem yourself ready. You'll be outside open gates, BURNING with the desire to enter rightfully. I thought this perspective offers interesting answers to some questions that have long plagued the Abrahamic religions.

What is the significance of having a moustache to you? Why does it matter?

Something that was almost a chicken laid the first chicken egg.

Unfortunately, all the things I could say shouldn't have to be said to an American. I shouldn't EVER have to tell you to avoid doing anything to get on a group's radar. But Donald Trump will be POTUS, and the hate is going to get worse. He's the maggotty center of the corruption the Republicans have infected the country with in their determination to disease the middle class. All the filth took a look at him and realized they didn't sound half bad. I don't have any words of comfort.

Biological Immortality and the Probability of it in Humans
Phi for All replied to digitalSorrow's topic in Biology
I don't think the jellyfish is interested in gaining immortality. Survival is different, and many species have extreme methods for extreme situations. Extending life past normal expectancies is something we've always been interested in. We actually could use more time between birth and adulthood presently, since our knowledge is accumulating at a very rapid pace. What young humans need to know to survive is expanding, and we need longer lives just to keep the same rate of effectiveness. -
We're both right, I think they're flushed AND recycled. They don't stay in the testes waiting to be updated or remixed. I am made of questions at this point. But in answer to your question, masturbation is a private event. As long as it remains private and doesn't become obsessive, it has nothing to do with ethics. It's like most bodily functions. Everyone does it, but talking about it in public is embarrassing to some.

It didn't seem judgey to point out that claiming An Inconvenient Truth had no impact on climate change was an ignorant statement. It's so trivially false, and if he's not dishonest then ignorance seems like the most supported explanation. I'm sure I could be wrong.
-
That implies a dishonesty I don't feel capable of judging over the web. I think waitforufo is ignorant because he makes things up without checking, things that he wants to believe are true, and the fact that he truly believes them shows it's not denial. It's laziness, and he's put down intellectuals for so many years he thinks smart is stupid. Shaking up the Etch-a-Sketch in his head by insisting on facts is the only honest way I know how approach such a serious subject, but it's not very effective when the ignorance is so willful. I don't know, maybe we need to take this down a few notches. Perhaps a TV game show like Truth or Trump?, or Wheel of Extinction, or Family Water Feud? Denial by the masses has been carefully orchestrated over a long time, but I don't think we'll have as long to reverse it. Now, doubly so.
-
The hardest part is combatting ignorance like yours. An Inconvenient Truth had a tremendous impact on concern as well as the environment. Our situation was predicted to be much worse by now without its impact. Deniers are ignorant, or they have an agenda. I haven't met any other kind.

Flushed or recycled?

! Moderator Note Remember that theory is the height of science. The most trustworthy explanations are theories. What you have is a loose hypothesis you need to support with evidence. We need more than just your honest opinions, otherwise it isn't science..
-
But in context, we were referring to experts and, you know, people smarter than you "few people".
-
Right, the Big TV Debate is a bad idea, so we give up. The point is, there is no debate. It's like the Intelligent Design vs public school science "debate". There is none. It's been manufactured by spin doctors and stabbed into the American psyche that there's any questions about it at all. A responsible, informative media would simply point to the mountains of evidence vs the opinions of profiteers and conclude that There. Is. No. Debate. Agreeing to one is a yuge admission that this is open to question.
-
Seriously? *sigh* Which people?
-
This is a completely horrible idea. If this were done correctly, the "debate" would take less time than a commercial segment. Instead, the media would first make it seem like an even battle (which is a hideous thought), and they'd give equal time to both sides in the interest of "fairness", ignoring the fact that Trump's side represents less than 1% of the expert views. From there, with the new Facts are for Wimps attitude, it would only get worse for our chances that sanity might shine through.

! Moderator Note You remain ignorant of the topic. Search a good physics course locally. Or look for reputable, mainstream course sites. The people you've been listening to haven't studied physics either. All of physics uses measuring processes we've devised. Just because they're made up by humans and don't matter to the universe doesn't mean they aren't EXTREMELY USEFUL to humans. You're stuck on this meaningless distinction about one dimension and are letting it keep you from moving forward with your education. Everyone hopes to help you see this. You make it very hard. You aren't the first person to make a mistake in science. But you can't just keep claiming time isn't real. We understand why you're saying it, and we're trying to tell you you're being blinded by your perspective. Trying to talk it out this way isn't working. Sorry, but we need some cooperation in a discussion. Thread closed.

This implies that someone else is involved that we don't know about. Again, clarity is your friend here. Who is not allowing, and who is tracking this history?
-
Is this some kind of sexual ethics, or are you asking if exaggerating a products benefits in order to sell it is ethical? Or are you asking about lying? The less vague you are, the better the quality of your responses will be. Trust me on this.
-
! Moderator Note You need to do more than comment. When you make assertions here, you need to back them up. Nobody is interested in your opinion in science. It's worthless without supportive evidence. Do you understand? If you have questions, ask them. It's clear you're going against mainstream physics because you are at an impasse in your understanding. Insisting you're right by waving your hands doesn't help anyone, and it's very boring in discussion. You need evidence for your claims. Please provide SOMETHING.
-
Definitive debates aren't what Big TV is all about these days. Easier to focus on Trump's flash-in-the-pan attention-grabbers, and that's what keeps people clicking and viewing. Climate science is hard, and hey! It's that guy from The Apprentice. He knows everything!
-
And as usual, the US ends up paying far more than anyone else in the world for the same or lesser quality of service. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's roads, healthcare, or politics. In four years, when Trump is worth $20B, we'll really understand why he didn't want us to know what he's worth.
-
! Moderator Note You haven't supported your speculative concept well. You keep repeating things like the above without explanation. Since this discussion is circling, I give you the chance to explain why you accept the "laws of physics" but not the dimensional parameters of those laws. Please support the above statement with evidence, or at least an explanation that's more than waving your hands a little harder. Otherwise we're going to have to lock this thread per Speculation rules.

Same response for grapefruit and breasts.
