No assumption necessary when you use the big green smile. I know that iNow responds better to an exaggerated and obvious jest than to offended superiority, and I hoped to pass that gem on to Physiman. Smile and wave, that's my motto. Hey, wave! We're back on topic!

Why is a U.S. Army brigade being assigned to the "Homeland"?
Phi for All replied to bombus's topic in Politics
Not on a dedicated assignment specific to Homeland Security. This means they've been given orders, and I'd love to know what they are. A federal posse comitatus with a new modular package of nonlethal capabilities. I'm thinking we're in for more than just a bad economy. -
I agree wholeheartedly. Many diseases are hereditary but I can't get rid of them by simply giving them up. If I'm allergic to peanut butter but love it so much I'm willing to live with some abdominal pain, diarrhea and facial swelling, do I have a disease?

Someone else said it here, Americans are fundamentalist businessmen. We're the Al Qaeda of the market economy and we're paying for our extremism.

First, no textspeak please. Our members are from all over the world and it's crucial that you are understood here. Are you a Virginia Tech Chemistry major? Or perhaps you're from Chittenden County Vermont? Spell it out, please. Second, to protect our members, as well as educate everyone, we prefer you don't take conversations to email (I edited yours out). Everyone gets to see the answers if they're posted here. Thirdly, welcome to the forum, I hope I didn't come on too strong. We want you here.

Sweet! Make sure to tell her that, in this age of staged camera grins, her Mona Lisa smile is both refreshing and alluring. If she wants you to forward a few other pics to me, you should do it.

Moved to Pseudoscience & Speculations. I see nothing that improves on accepted theory.

I think a better public education overall would help tremendously. It scares me that education isn't better funded for the majority, while those who are profiting most these days seem to come from private schools (another study which will never be done). Young people are portrayed as lazy delinquents, moochers and scofflaws, making it easier for those without children to vote down funding for their education. And the economy needs consumers! The message for years has been work hard for your employer, go home and eat something quick and easy, then kick back and watch commercials tell you about how much better you would be if you bought something with that credit card that's so much better than cash. Politics doesn't offer enough representation for the whole country with just two parties, both of which are fundamentally concerned with business. Add deregulation and bailouts to the mix and you have a market that doesn't care about sound, long-range economic plans, not when a few politically engineered loopholes allow so much money to be made *now*. Sorry, but I wanted padren's OP to look less like a rant compared to my post.

swansont said: He's pointing out that QM really should be known as WM. WM = QM, at least according to Severian (he's one of our physicist members). Hey! Knock it off! If you want to be understood, don't use textspeak. And if you want iNow to be civil, don't tell him to "shut up". Ask him if his choice of words was deliberately condescending or if he was dropped hard as a baby. There's probably evidence linking the two and I know he'll appreciate the perspicacity.

What metal would you guys recommend to melt into an engagement ring?
Phi for All replied to thethule's topic in Chemistry
And pictures please, if your fiance doesn't mind the world looking at her ring. -
I'm starting a new client, lukeisthecooles, and I don't have huge amounts of time to Google for you, but Sigma-Aldrich looks like your best friend. Just a note, it would be more helpful to arrange the order of your photos to match the descriptions in your opening post. And your background for those pics is horrible (no offense). If you want us to see something made of clear glass, use a solid background. And I can't even see the weird looking things in the last pic. Are you selling these on e-Bay, or do you have a local buyer?

Violence is one thing, but this is robbery. Perhaps some sort of neighborhood watch program can help. Sayonara3 went to a martial arts school there in Rio, Ladeira. It's always good to be able to defend yourself. But I agree with big314mp, the best thing to do is travel with friends, big friends with muscles and crazy eyes. In a tank.

If the SNL producers don't pony up the dough for a propagating prosthetic proboscis for Tina Fey's next sketch, they don't know what funny is. This just cracked me up.

Do you have pictures? What kind of shape are they in? I googled all those items and got pics and prices (for new), so it would help to know how new the equipment is.

Really? It's not about ganging up on new members? I thought it was because newbies always get lepton. I like the name Angiebob, btw. Welcome to the forum.

If that's all they were wearing, one could hardly blame you. In fact, I find myself having to reach for a clip board myself looking at the girl in pic #2. How short *are* those lab coats?
-
This was my take as well. I was not impressed. I felt they were about equally well prepared.

Brand new members who join in order to take us elsewhere are always suspected of being here only to advertise. If you wish this thread to remain open and your link intact, please show us differently by participating in discussions. I'll check back in a week or so.

Well, Obama was at the table too. And I suspect it was their required presence that changed the landscape somewhat. I'm really concerned that the politicians want complete agreement on this deal, even though many think it's not specific enough and gives too much power away, and at the same time their offices are being flooded with constituents telling them not to do it. Why aren't they telling us why their representation is at odds with those they represent?

The Official "Introduce Yourself" Thread
Phi for All replied to Radical Edward's topic in The Lounge
Hi Greg, I merged your thread with out Introduce Yourself thread. Welcome and enjoy. -
Thanks for letting us know, but next time you cut and paste, reference the source in the same post, OK? Otherwise it's plagiarism.

I see your point, and I agree. You are *not* a reluctant nitpicker. I do see what you are saying. I was trying to point out that "highest form" should be applied to a situation, and not all situations favor humans as the epitome of development.

It's not simply the tone. The fact that you're equating belief in purple unicorns, a decidedly small worship group, with God, who, despite your personal beliefs, has a rather enormous following, puts you on a fallacious foundation. It's rather easy to knock down belief in purple unicorns in a sentence or two, and much more difficult to do the same with God. Even without the organized belief system, the literature alone shows that belief in God can't be equated with a belief in purple unicorns, no matter how much you see them as the same intellectually.

Treasury: "We just wanted to choose a really large number."
Phi for All replied to bascule's topic in Politics
Excuse me? What's a sales pitch, the number itself or the spokesperson saying the number is arbitrary? I can tell you that neither is a good sales pitch (I know you didn't claim it was good). Mentioning price up front is never a good idea, and admitting your numbers are arbitrary erodes trust. If they really wanted to sell it to me, they should start out telling me how much this will help the economy, then tell me how much interest the taxpayers are going to earn from this "loan". Then tell me what the duration of the loan will be, and only then tell me it's just a mere $700B. I might be impressed with such a plan.
