Then put up or shut up, Johnny5, you're annoying the other members and wasting everyone's time. Trolling the forum has consequences. This is your only warning before suspension.

I'd be willing to bet they also don't mention sharing your money with your instructor and teaching medical secrets to his sons for free, either. It's the spirit of the Oath, to do no harm, that seems applicable here. Some updating needed to be done. At the time, physicians didn't give abortive drugs, but herbalists and mid-wives did.
-
You thought Hippocrates was American?
-
It's the Hippocratic Oath, I believe. Relevant in that many physicians try to adhere to it's principals.

It's been 24 hours and no posts for you. If you don't mind terribly, I'm going to move this to the Homework Help section to see if we get any response to your stimulus. I will leave a redirect in case anyone is looking for it.

The Official "Introduce Yourself" Thread
Phi for All replied to Radical Edward's topic in The Lounge
But hopefully you know at least how fast you're going. Welcome. -
See Abortion thread in Politics. Old ground.

"I heard" is hardly attributable as a source for such an earth-shaking discovery. Perhaps you could give us a link or site a study on this reverse blood-flow button we all are supposed to have. Or we could move your first thread to Anatomy/Physiology and see the response it gets there. Any thoughts?

Let's try to stay within the biomedical ethics of this topic. We're straying too much into legal and political areas, which are covered by topics in other forums. Or has it all been said, and this thread needs some closure? Cadmus and Callipygous, divorce granted, irreconcilable differences. You're both fined $10,000 for conduct unbecoming a member. I'll PM you the PayPal info.

I got a .17 and it said "Excellent", but when I anticipated it perfectly (luckily) and got .00 all I got was "Well done". They should give me an iPod or something. Or a horse. Not a pony, a horse.

Ahem, see Lance's time in post #16, then see Dave for some remedial math lessons.

Yes. Yes and yes. A line is a representation of a dimension, something we use to explain the world, but that doesn't make them any less "actual". Our brain identifies patterns in all things and seeks to categorize what we sense in relationship to those patterns. I envy you, and 9th grade is not an age, btw. No, you're not. Yes, you are.

Chalk up another win for the Bush-Ashcroft Justice Dept
Phi for All replied to Pangloss's topic in Politics
I'll settle for half that (no time off for good behavior). A strong message needs to be sent, but how strong does it need to be when billions of $ are involved? I will admit it is a step in the right direction. What we have to watch out for is that this case is not spun so broadly that it blinds us to others who deserve it just as much. This administration is just too good at spinning the news we hear. Ebbers may not have been under the protective umbrella that Lay has enjoyed. If Lay gets 40 years, that's when I'll start the "I was so wrong about George" thread. And if Halliburton goes down for KBR's abuse of taxpayer funds earmarked for US troops in Iraq (whistleblower document), I'll buy a hat and eat it. -
Ecoli, now that your hands and face are beet-red, is it easier to see those little white hairs? If you had any sensitivity at all, I guess you wouldn't be a guy. j/k Phi, 47, present on ring and pinky fingers.

Coquina is a great resource when it comes to machining with metal, and I'll bet she has experience with fabrication, too. If you titled this thread "The Forge" because you are interested in heating bar stock and beating it into either swords or plowshares, that's a little different. psi20, your profile doesn't say where you're from, but you may try "blacksmiths" or "farriers" in your local directory. Most farriers these days don't make their own horseshoes anymore, but some still do.

From what I've read, ZPE is theoretical, based on Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, and says that the vacuum contains energy because anything warmer than absolute zero still has energy. Since the vacuum of space is far more vast than the matter of space, the energy field available from it is enormous. It should, more accurately, be called almost-zero-point energy. Without being able to tap into multiple points in the vacuum simultaneously (perhaps this is what the fourth spatial dimension is for?), ZPE is useless to us as an energy source. I, too, would like to hear more about implications from a physics POV. elfstone, can you site a source on where you read about the inertia explanation? If this thread starts to go down the use-the-Force-Luke-road, it will have to be moved to pseudoscience, so let's watch it.

Are you interested in casting metal or do you want to make swords and knives?

.165 average is my best so far. I got one of those completely lucky .000 ones though, where the anticipation paid off. I think you're the winner so far, Lance. Pretty flocking fast, man. I'm so glad nobody has made any lewd suggestions about what we're supposed to do with the sheep once they're tranquilized (ewwwwwe!).
-
Are you all looking right at the sheep? I seem to remember that peripheral vision detects motion better. I've been staring at the middle of the screen. I hate the little head-fakes the wooly buggers give you.

I personally make a distinction between justification and necessity so I don't fall into the trap of tailoring my morality to suit my needs. Self defense is necessary for survival. It is a just reason for killing, and does not need to be justified. Everyone's morals are different. If you do something you know to be wrong, you are violating your own moral code, and trying to justify your actions is simply lying to yourself to make yourself feel better. To me, there is a difference between an excuse and a reason. Nothing excuses you for doing something you perceive as wrong. You can have reasons for being wrong, but you are still wrong. In this case, I mean necessary for survival. I have no problem with people taking a life if they are willing to suffer the moral and legal consequences of that act (whatever that may entail). What I can't abide is people who kill and then try to skirt the obligations and responsibilities for such an act with justifications and excuses. I am pro-choice but I personally couldn't pay the moral costs involved in abortion if my wife's survival were not in question.
-
I agree with Mokele, that life started only once, and all the births and deaths since are but continuations of that cycle. We have to own the responsibility for life, and the taking of life. It's never justifiable to take a life, but sometimes it is necessary. We kill to survive. If we kill for any other reason, we must be prepared to face the moral consequences. If we decide to abort a foetus, we can't justify taking that life away by saying it is not alive. We can decide to abort the foetus because it was necessary, and then we must live with that decision and face the consequences of our actions.

You know, I was going to take the time to explain myself, but after seeing you post that link to a known virus in computer sciences, it would be time wasted.

I got .2102 on my third try. I swear that 3rd sheep is quicker than the rest!

I got yours because my tongue was really perky and needed to be depressed. You're getting my box of cigars this month as a signing bonus.
