  1. Jealous IE weenie.
  2. Such as? I know the new nickel-metal hydride are better than nickel-cadmium for recharging, but I'm wondering why common elements like carbon and zinc with some acidic paste as an electrolyte are so expensive! My daughter loves to play with flashlights and has tape recorders, keyboards, you name it and I seem to be buying new batteries like crazy.
  3. Thanks Sayo! Anybody have any great extensions they use a lot? I love AdBlock, Single Window and Image Zoom. I have All in One Gestures but I'm not proficient with it yet. I have Reload Every but can never tell if it's working.
  4. Very well put explanation, Martin. Some people have a way with words, and others... not have way.
  5. I know only a few things about common batteries (Cs, Ds, AAs, etc), so I need some help here. Besides providing an electrochemical source of electrons, what I do know is that: 1) they seem to be made from some pretty common materials, 2) they cost an awful lot of money, 3) they don't last very long, 4) they tend to "brown-out" toward the end rather than giving a steady charge and then just quitting. The only conspiracy theories I usually believe in are marketing ones. Are batteries overpriced for the materials used? Is there a way to make them drain at a constant rate so you don't throw them away with a bit of charge left (it's particularly annoying with flashlights; the same battery that makes a flashlight glow at half-brightness will still power a radio for a while). I've used rechargeables and they have an even shorter lifespan, and after a while refuse to hold a charge at all. Am I just being cheap here or are the battery companies screwing us over?
  6. Have you tried looking at Tesseract's Seizure Robots while wearing the 3D glasses? Put a stick or a martian cucumber between your teeth just in case....
  7. They'll be expecting that.... We need someone small, with no tattoos, preferably gay but not Canadian... let's send in the half-inch pink ninjas!
  8. Don't hate them. Many Christians are simply afraid. Afraid of change. Afraid of sexuality. Afraid of big scary Canadians with tattooed upper arms. But mostly afraid of gay Canadian ninjas with tattoos. Every country simply needs to come up with a semi-binding ritual of consentual cohabitation recognized by all that gives the same benefits as marriage without being called marriage. Revenue-sactioned Pagan hand-fasting in a mutually recognized place of comfort springs easily to mind.
  9. This is the first I've heard that you believe the martians are coming to attack us!!! For me, this changes everything! What have we ever done to them? They didn't take that Orson Welles thing seriously, did they? That was so long ago. What can we do to stop these martial #$$-kickers? What are their weapons like? Are they bug-like or just antelope/lamb thingies? Will the 3D glasses help?!?!
  10. A man wakes up in the hospital after a terrible car accident and sees a doctor looking at him with a very serious expression. The man's eyes widen and he screams, "Doc, I can't feel my legs! Oh my God, I can't feel my legs!!!" The doctor smiles reassuringly and says, "Your legs are fine, don't worry. You can't feel them because I had to amputate both your arms!"
  11. You mean they're just clouds? Even the bunnies?
  12. It's no wonder we're all going insane: 1. You can get a pizza to your house faster than an ambulance. 2. Drug stores make sick people walk all the way to the back to get medicine while healthy people can buy cigarettes up at the front. 3. We leave cars worth tens of thousands of dollars in the driveway while our worthless junk is in the garage. 4. We use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place. 5. We cook with lemon juice made with artificial flavoring and use dishwashing liquid made with real lemons. 6. We put our faith in Psychics when none of them ever wins the lottery. 7. The most common computer operating system can only be stopped by pressing "Start". 8. When you're intoxicated, you feel sophisticated but can't say sophisticated. 9. The #2 pencil is the most popular. 10. Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.
  13. I hate signatures period. It's like being clubbed over the head hundreds of times a month. I do like your "I saw a squirrel" link, Sayo. I've listened to it over 6000 times. Just keeps getting funnier every time.
  14. Much of the resentment towards gay marriages is because marriage is one of the sacraments in Christian churches. Sacraments are sacred mysteries to the ultra-religious who want to adhere to a strict interpretation of biblical canon. They object to the fact that gays want to get married in their churches but not follow their sacred rites. They are also terrified they might get some of that gay on them and that, like many tattoos, it won't wash off and they'll be condemned as Satan's Gay Ninjas of Perdition.
  15. Are you suggesting that if someone really wants to see something tangible in random patterns that he might simply imagine they are there? But what about clouds? The animals and other objects I see in cloud formations are definitely real... at least for a short time!
  16. I was thinking about the big Darwin fish in your old signature that made your view of creationism so crystal clear. No offense to weasel54849, of course, but I just had to laugh at the assumption. Guess that'll teach you to read those links, admiral! weasel54849, check out the Philosophy/Religion Forum here at SFN if you don't mind a critical look at the evolution/creation debate. Well presented viewpoints are always welcome.
  17. Thank you, aeroguy, for your thoughts on proportional representation in Sweden. I hope you won't let a few ignorant, trolling remarks about the politics of your entire country disuade you from posting again. I think Aardvark likes to sweep the chess pieces off the board with a swipe of his hand when his defense goes awry.
  18. There are so many unknowns here. Who were the other passengers, able-bodied young suburbanites or elderly pensioners? Were there 10 or 50? How did the perpetrators know the young woman was from the 16th district before they stole her papers? What does a North African look like? Of course, none of the answers would excuse these North African, neo-Nazi, pram-tipping, mugger/barber/body artists. They still sound like a pack of stupid racist thugs.
  19. Ah, but if they were capable of creating us, wouldn't they have created us to ignore their presence so they could study us better? It's the mice, dude. Read your Douglas Adams.
  20. In The Tipping Point, the author mentions a few incidents where someone was being attacked and multiple witnesses did nothing. It seems that there must be a certain number of witnesses before help is forthcoming. Too few and the attackers outnumber them. Too many and everyone assumes someone else will step in, so no one does. In the US, we've had three years to think about how heroic we'd be if someone tried to hijack a plane we were on. I don't think a dozen guys with bazookas would stand a chance. If it were on an airplane. And they looked like terrorists. And we were sure they were going to kill us all anyway.
  21. Conclusion: Racists are stupid.
  22. Aaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Haha! Ha. <<wipes tear from eye, binds stitch in side, regrets Admiral's change of signature>> Whoa. Sorry. Admiral?
  23. A true coup in logician admonition! Heed the wise J'Dona, for as they used to say in Rome, sic transit gloria mundi! If you truly wish to force this flock to feast on their fedoras, you must prove that you're not mad as a hatter and launch yourself, unafraid, into the maelstrom of martian maunderings featured so prominently in many major, mass publications whose readership will either ridicule you as a martial lunatic or embrace you as one of their own.
  24. But surely you would stand a better chance of acceptance for your theories by accessing a larger segment of said public? Are you posting in a forum comprised of scientifically minded people in hopes of finding concurrence or do you just enjoy the abuse?
  25. They have paper that is supposed to be better for use with laser printers but I don't think it's mandatory to use it. Besides, if you get it at OfficeMax or CostCo it's just as cheap as any other paper because laser printers are so popular. I think your biggest hurdle is going to be binding, and I really don't know much about that. Have you thought about how you're going to bind 300 pages to each of 5 hard covers?
