  1. A superfluid will rotate almost indefinitely due to almost zero frictional losses, and viscosity. The floating platform supporting the magnet will not be dragged along because it has inertia and no friction to drag it. ( the fluid is essentially a 'frictionless' surface ) If it did, the fluid would need to do work to overcome the inertia, and the energy to do that work would need to come from somewhere as we have well established conservation laws. You cannot make a perpetual 'lighting' machine.
  2. A liquid crystal display essentially orients 'liquid' crystals so that they act like shutters on a window. They need some sort of illumination behind the 'shutter' so you can see an image. The old color LCD displays worked similarly, and as a result, could never produce deep black color, as the 'shutters' don't seal very well. The problem was solved when they developed blue LEDs so that an RGB display would have 3 thin-film transistors at each pixel that emit their own light and have no need for a separate backlight. I remember depositing thin films of various types, under vacuum, onto glass substrates, in 3rd year Uni, then applying a voltage across the film and causing it to go opaque, but I don't quite understand what you would do with it? could you elaborate further ?
  3. You would be surprised how many Democrats and progressives identify as Christians. They just prefer to dissociate their Religion from their politics/governance. You might just be confused by far-right Republicans who claim that God is on their side in order to take advantage of uneducated people who only know religion.
  4. Some of us ( I think Eise has expressed the same sentiment ) don't hand out neg rep points, but we are fine handing out positive ones. If I don't like a particular post I prefer explaining why, if I'm even interested in the subject matter. In this case John John was acting like a petulant child, who, when told he was wrong, stomped his feet, cried, and insisted he was right. That is not a discussion, and INow called him out on it. Hopefully he will have calmed down and be ready for civil discourse when he's welcomed back.
  5. Yes ... We all did. And we all gave you our opinion, yet you keep asking the same question over and over, and adding different quotes from a book which is full of people's opinions from 1600 to 1900 years ago. Our opinions have not changed over the last three pages. Did you not read them ???
  6. He's not 'chasing' you, just giving you helpful advice. And he's not the omly one who thinks you're acting like a troll; everyone who has interacted with you does also. Surely that can't be a coincidence ...
  7. From this response ( and your immature attitude ) I assume you're 14 years old, and have never seen a film camera, where the light ( photons ) interact with chemicals on the film to produce an image. Ahhh, youth. Spouting all sorts of nonsense, and thinking you're always right.
  8. Lets assume you are correct; we live in a dark universe where there are no photons but only electrical signals reaching the brain. Whatdoes a camera 'see' when it takes a picture ???
  9. Thank you. There is no tail; just electrical signals to the brain.
  10. I gotta admit I loved this line I haven't a clue what you mean by it ( or maybe you haven't a clue ). I think you should discuss this with John John in the "Photons and Light" thread. Apparently there is no light, no double slit, no diffraction pattern and no detector/observer; it is all just electrical signals to the brain.
  11. There is no meat, just electrical signals to the brain.
  12. The 'big books' of science are are factual and explain the science as we understand it. If you think they are complicated then you obviously don't understand them, and, as a result, you are confused. Have I have made it simple for you to understand ?
  13. Disappeared/eroded ??? Old circuit boards with copper traces, a thousandth of an inch gold plating, and old tin solder on top, are regularly sent overseas, where they reclaim the gold plating. Gold Recovery : 8 Steps (with Pictures) - Instructables So obviously it does not disappear.
  14. It is not a causation but a correlation. The same uneducated, southern, 'white trash', rednecks who are easily taken in by D Trump/Republican lies and disinformation, are also easy prey for organized Religion.
  15. I believe I already stated that ... Jowever the value od that dollar is clearly defined in that particular country's currency at any money exchange location. Ot might differ slightly from day to day as exchange rates usually do, but its value is defined. Same with oil and Gold prices. And the intrinsic value of Platinum is not its use in a catalytic converter, unless that use is defined also. If the defined use is not considered, the only value any object has, is related to its unchanging properties, like mass, color, shape, etc. There, now I've become pedantic also.

    Political Humor

+1 INow, only because there's a cat involved, and she looks like my BB.
  17. Speaking of pedants ... 😄 😄
  18. The terms intrinsic and extrinsic have well define meanings. The intrinsic value of an object is defined by the object itself. A one dollar bill has a specific intrinsic value. So does an ounce of Gold, or a barrel of oil. If the value of an object is determined by external conditions and circumstances ( to the object ), then its value is extrinsic. CharonY's glass of water has extrinsic value determined by how thirsty the person who wants it is. And art, of all kinds, and using this 'broad' definition certainly falls into the extrinsic category. As a caveat, you could make the argument that all value is extrinsic, because even dollars, Gold and oil values fluctuate due to market demands, but I will not be that pedant.
  19. God, and Jesus, are not 'conservative' or 'liberal'. Neither is the bible. You cannot have a scientific discussion about Religion or the Bible; science is based on evidence, Religion is based on 'faith', no evidence needed. Neither can you discuss Religion in terms of Politics, although Religion often gets politicized, with political movements claiming God is on their side, in order to justify oppression, wars, etc. This thread should have been shut down long ago, as one side is arguing with evidence, the other with faith ... ( I would be even more strict than Swansont as a moderator 😄 )
  20. Whether copper silver or gold, once the alloy is formed with tin, no further 'dissolving' takes place; that's why I suggested keeping the tip well tinned. I would hope you realize that circuit board traces and pads are copper with a very thin anti-oxidization gold covering. Do the pads 'dissolve' when you solder a component on them ???
  21. Seems everybody was for respectful discourse, but they had to 'cut to the chase' with their opinions of your posts.
  22. @nec209 You are basing your arguments on religious texts ( the Bible ) and doctrine, which we don't do here. What we do is discuss the scientific aspects of religions. If you wish to discuss any particular religion's concepts of 'good; and 'evil' as well as other moral aspects, I might suggest a religious forum would be more suitable.
  23. There is no point discussing photons unless you want to discuss Quantum Mechanical aspects of the interaction. As Studiot has suggested, everything you have inquired about can be handled by classical models. Why complicate matters and confuse yourself.
  24. Why ? Copper works just fine as long as you keep it tinned. The material composition of the tip is not as important for heat transfer as the liquid tin coating. ( and always use good rosin flux, especially when doing work on surface mount components )

    Harris vs Trump;

Hey ! Wait a minute. Is she letting him "grab her by the pu*sy" ? Actually, I should show some respect; hopefully, she's the next American President.
