  1. Have to agree with Phi. This OP shows why 'labelling' people as left/right/ theist/atheist/anti-theist/etc. is the sloppiest form of generalization.
  2. No, we have all seen your posts and know that your level of mathematical understanding is 'middle' school level. You don't know any calculus, or even grasp limits; I don't think you can begin to do any QM ( where the fun is ), never mind the 'way it's used in our modern day and age' ( ? time of use makes a difference ? ). And you don't seem to understand the meaning of 'numerology'. ( did you even read the link; where does it mention 'respected' applications and domain ? ) How many times must you be told to ask questions regarding things you don't understand, if you want to be taken seriously ? And these aren't even advanced topics; you don't understand the basic building blocks on which the 'entry level' stuff is based. People have tried to help, but you ignore their advice; they're starting to lose patience with you.
  3. I also asked you previously What do you think 'base' means ? Give us your understanding/interpretation. You seem to think we are all telling you something different than what the rest of us all understand we are telling you. YOU is the common denominator to this misunderstanding. ( do you know what a denominator is ? )
  4. I have no clue what you mean by any of this. This is one of the 'assertions' Swansont warned you about. If you don't understand a concept, or are unsure, ask the question; don't go jumping to unsubstantiated conclusions.
  5. A 'constant' is constantly the same value; it does not change. The value of Pi is 3.141… in base 10 And 11.001… in base 2 The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter doesn't change in different number bases.
  6. But base two ( binary ) and base 16 ( hexadecimal ) are used in computer programming.
  7. Thanks Swansont. The process of fusion, building up heavier elements from lighter ones, releases energy up to atomic number 26, iron. This is the process that powers stars, the first of which comprised Hydrogen and Helium in a ratio of 4 to 1, and traces of Lithium. Subsequent stars have slightly varying ratios. From atomic number 26 on up, energy must be supplied to fuse heavier elements. It follows, then, that the process of fission, splitting heavier elements to produce lighter ones, releases energy from atomic number 26 on up. You might find trivial traces of heavy elements in stars formed in gas/dust clouds around former supernovae, but they don't contribute to producing energy. This energy released is due to the change in nuclear binding energy brought about by the two processes. I hope that clarifies my previous statement.
  8. Most of us don't do this for 'fame and fortune'. Others have their own reasons; I do it because I enjoy discussion with like-minded people. ( I don't even belong to any social media, and a couple of times it has 'scared' me when googling some science topic, that a link to MigL@Science Forums.net come up in the search. )
  9. So an anti-theist is just as bad as a theist who wants to force his own personal beliefs on others ?
  10. Personally, I don't see a connection. And think you put too much value on labels. ( what is ANTI-theist ??? )
  11. Velocity HAS a direction, otherwise it is 'speed'. Velocity can be a variable if it varies ( notice the connection ? ) Accelerations are influence by gravity, or any other force, according to a = F/m where a = acceleration, F = force and m = mass ( bolded letters imply a vector quantity; IOW, it has a direction, usually denoted by an arrow above the letter )
  12. You don't usually have to worry about how good an insulator something is on an absolute scale. Only how good an insulator it is compared to alternative paths of lesser resistance. That is the principle of lightning rods.
  13. Yes, about 50 deg F Not quite the optimum refrigerator temperature of less than 40 deg F, but close enough. What makes you think it was lost ? I can make a killer eggplant parmigiana, or a hearty pasta fagioli. And I can make my own wine, from grapes ( imported California ).
  14. No, it seems a lot of people have a choice to make. They either stay home and take care of their own kids, or they send them to the 'de facto babysitting center' so that they can go to work and earn a living to feed, clothe and house their kids, Which would you do ? As for your other concerns, like locker space, excessive paper use, and burning paper/trash in a big bonfire ... What ??? I would think there are many more pressing concerns.
  15. I think they are both turning over in their graves !
  16. Fraction means expressing as a ratio of two numbers. For example 1/2 = 0.5 and 1/5 =0.2 are numbers between 0 and 1 expressed as fractions, but, you can also have 3/2 = 1.5 and 6/3 = 2 which are not between 0 and 1 . What do you think 'fraction means ? And what is this obsession you have with number system bases. What do you think 'base' means ?
  17. String theory does not need to be 'solved'. It is a mathematically self-consistent theory, that may, or may not, describe our universe. As it currently stands, there is no way to test, or falsify, it. And that's just with the title. As for the rest of this 'dog's breakfast' ... Light doesn't accelerate. The Big Bang did not 'consume' space. Nor was it an explosion. Photons do not consume space either. There is no fission in stars. Black Holes do not act that way. Neither does dark matter, nor des it have its own dimension. Etc.Etc.Etc. And, this is NOT a theory. ( it is mostly nonsense )
  18. I apologize if I was unclear with my previous post .
  19. That's what happens when you quote something out of context … The rest of my post goes on to explain how the third Abrahamic Religion, Islam, does have historical records, and it started out more as a conquest by the sword, rather than convincing people of a 'better' way. Which does negate the logic of your argument for at least the Islamic Religion.
  20. Really ? You think that's his best ? Did have a memorable line... "Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy"
  21. I grew up in a classical Mediterranean culture ( south-central Italy during the 60s ). We did not have a refrigerator. But all perishables like fresh fruits, dried nuts, potatoes, preserves, etc., and wine/beer/pop, were stored in an underground cellar where the temperature was always about 10 deg., year round. I remember drinking cool beer, in little stubby bottles, when I was 5-8 years old. First time I got drunk was on cherries preserved in spirits.
  22. My little garden is mostly different kinds of tomatoes and peppers. But on different years have done eggplant, cantaloupe, and beans. Anything I don't grow, is available from farmer's markets all over the Niagara Peninsula, and just minutes away. I grow my herbs in pots so I can bring them inside in the winter; can't make a tomato/onion salad without a couple of leaves of basil. And of course I have my late father's lemon tree that has been going strong 20 years now. Don't do much canning/preserving, mostly rely on the grocery store during the long Canadian winters. Greenhouse tomatoes aren't as sweet/tasty, but they'll do. I don't think that makes me a 'bad' person, does it Bart ? Turns out most of us are a bit like you. Why not return the favor and become a bit more scientific, like us ?
  23. apparently Pfizer vaccines are already being transported to various locations. Canada's are coming from the production site in Puurs, Belgium. I assume we're not getting any from Pfizer's Kalamazoo site, as D Trump has expressed a desire to have Americans inoculated first. Shipments are by plane ( underfloor cargo hold ), in dry ice filled containers, as the mRNA is fragile, and degrades quickly with elevated temps. Special approval has been granted by the FAA for carrying 5 times the allowed amount of dry ice; usually 3000 lbs, now 15000lbs. The sublimating dry ice is allowed to vent to atmosphere, and no special precautions are being taken for pilots, other than warnings about CO2 exposure. Production, and now shipping, has been ongoing even as the vaccine was waiting for testing/approval, so as to have significant quantities available on go ahead.
  24. Clint's 1955 'Francis In The Navy' ? With Francis the talking mule ? I assume, Bart, that you grow all of your own food ( or at least try to ). How much land do you require for this ? How big is the property where you are able to do this ? Now multiply this by almost 8 billion. It is estimated that we currently use 11% of the world's 510 million Km2 for food production. But this could be 3 times larger if we used all available fertile land and deforested it all. Do you think there is enough for everybody ?
  25. But this isn't about stopping you; I realize there is nothing we can do. In my city they just spent a couple of million putting up metal catch poles on either side ( and between the two spans ) of a bridge that has been used quite a few times for jumping. Seems kind of useless; instead of jumping from the walkway to one side and off the bridge, you jump the other way in front of a truck. Same result. This is about moral justification for such actions. And I also realise they are going to be different for people with differing morals.
