I think JC is hoping A Yang as VP. If J Biden should win the nomination, I don't think I could watch the debate with D Trump.

Was it done solely for the purpose of benefitting the oil companies, or was that simply a 'side-effect' ? Don't people want ( for better or for worse ) cheap oil prices ? People wanting cheap oil prices and a dependable supply, is arguably the driving factor. The Socialist aspect is using our collectively paid Armed Forces to secure the cheap oil supplies for our benefit. That there are some Capitalist aspects such as the oil companies realizing that they can make a load of money from these actions, is what I talked about earlier; pure Capitalism and pure Socialism don't really exist.

I would consider my pension to be Socialist. Yet all pension funds invest in the Capitalistic stock market. I would consider the Canadian Health Care system to be Socialist. Yet the medications provided are the very definition of Capitalism. ( at least until the patents run out and they become 'generic' ) I would consider our infrastructure to be socialist. Yet contracts are tendered to unionized labour ( another Socialist institution ) with higher profit margins than non-unionized labour; clearly a 'for-profit' Capitalistic result arrived at by Socialist means. Need I go on, Phi ?

That makes no sense... If you can put more stuff in a container, that means you have more empty space. IOW it is LESS filled. The Block Universe being compliant with GR means that the Cosmological constant, and resultant 'dark energy', is accounted for. So why would you say the BU only accounts for 15 % of the mass of the Universe ? So many misconceptions; I suggest you read up on the BU model.

American interests, during the Cold War, were the stopping of Communist expansion, so that Americans wouldn't have to spend so much in the arms race, to protect themselves from Communist expansion; i.e. their own interests ( and by 1989 it worked ). It had nothing to do with the fact that they were fighting against Socialist ( rather Communist ) ideals. Even Middle East wars are in America's self-interest. If I want to be cynical, it is for cheap oil supply. You can argue that it's wrong, but it is still self-serving. Similarly Canadians send their military to aid/work in Haiti, so that we don't have a humanitarian crisis, and our borders/ports are not inundated with refugees. Again perceived as self-interests Any collective moneys spent on society's self-interests is a Socialistic endeavor.
-
But you can make the argument that they are there to safeguard American interests. Even Canadian 'peace-keeping' is intended to ultimately protect Canada from a 'larger' conflict.

Both P Buttigieg and A Klobuchar have thrown their support behind J Biden who is 'sittin pretty' for Tuesday. Meanwhile, E Warren is 'stealing' support from B Sanders, who is having 'deja-vu' of 2015. One week, in politics, makes a HUGE difference
-
War crimes, mass murders, genocide, and general raping and pillaging are not the purpose of the Military, Sensei. ( although I've always stated that all institutions can be corrupted by unscrupulous people ) The purpose of the Military is to protect and defend the people who pay for it collectively. Seems perfectly Socialistic to me. And as INow has stated, All Socialistic institutions have some Capitalistic aspects, just like all Capitalistic institutions have Socialistic aspects. I'm not even sure it's possible to have 'pure' Socialism or Capitalism.

All Government programs are, by definition, Socialist. The pooling of resources, through taxation, for the ( intended ) betterment of society. Maybe that's why Republicans are always clamoring for smaller Government. IE not so many Socialist programs. ( but then they always increase the size of Government )

Does the fact that E Warren is still in pull votes from the B Sanders camp, and give J Biden an advantage going forward ? Old Joe might just pull it off. Either way, we currently have a president who is bat-sh*t crazy, and the next one ( either Bernie or Joe ) could be senile before the end of his first term.

It's a refined drink, for the discriminating gentleman who has achieved 1000 rep points . See A Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, and Alfred Pennyworth at the Florence café. Besides, I used to drink it when I was a little kid in Italy.
-
I don't worry about E Warren's 2 %, JC. I'm more worried about J Trudeau. Thanks for putting me 'over the top'. I'm celebrating with a Fernet Branca. ( think Jägermeister without the sugar, i.e. cough medicine )
-
You're absolutely right, John. Considering that my first computer was a Sinclair ZX-81, built from a kit, The senility excuse isn't a large stretch.

Back to the OP... Does anyone think J Biden's vote percentage, more than twice B sander's, is the result of Democrats being afraid that B Sanders actually might take the nomination ? Or is this simply a fluke ( throw old Joe a bone ) ? E Warren seems to be relegated to 'runner up' status. I hope this doesn't give M Bloomberg the opportunity to come up the middle. One Billionaire has done enough damage to the Presidency; don't relish the thought of another.

In case anyone else wants one... AMD has just introduced the Threadripper 3990X, built using 7 um ( Zen 2 ) technology. It comes with 64 hardware cores ( 128 logical cores ), runs at 2.9 - 3.4 GHz, and the recommended minimum RAM complement is 128 GB. For multithreaded tasks, such as video rendering and image manipulation, it is easily the fastest CPU available. As a matter of fact, it outperforms Intel equivalents in productivity, and all content creation. but still lags slightly in gameplay. The price ( at intro ) is US$ 3990 ( holy cr*p ! ), but that is still less than half the price of Intel server ( Xeon ) chips with half the core count.

No debate from me... Michel brought up whether events are duplicated in the Block Universe model, in the OP. Aside from the fact that he doesn't seem to understand the BU model, nor what an 'event' implies, he fails to realise that we are ALWAYS dealing with a model ( or map, if you will ), as we can only interact with our local ( causal ) 'now'. A map. model, photograph, or even memories, are all representations of reality. And in none of those representations are 'previous' space-time co-ordinates, events, photographs or memories vacated once an 'object' ( whatever that is ) 'moves' ( whatever that means ) to a new space-time co-ordinate. Any interpretations he chooses to make about 'reality' based on a new model ( which he should present ) might have some significance. But he should introduce the new model first; not misrepresent an existing ( and GR compliant ) model, like the BU model.

Don't know whether the virus outbreak will hurt or help D Trump in November. But the stock market ( and my retirement savings ) is taking a hit. The economy has been No. 1 on D Trump's bragging list for the past two years, and if that goes in the dumps, like 2008-9, he might as well kiss his asinine Presidency goodbye. ( and as much as I dislike D Trump, I really think that's too high a priceto pay, to be rid of him )

I'd vote for you, Zap. You're not over 65, are you ?

What if you have one glass with 1 cl of water in it. After 1 sec it still has 1cl of water in it. After an hour it still has 1 cl of water in it. After 1 day ( Depending on evaporation ) it still has 1 cl of water in it. It IS 'moving' along its worldline, not through the spatial dimensions, but only along the time dimension, At no time was the glass void of the 1 cl of water. If you want to invoke another model, fine; Markus has provided 3 other than the Block Universe ( eternalist, B-time ) model. But if you want to keep discussing the Block Universe ( hey, it was your hijack to begin with ), then realise that the model says events (the notion of 'motion' is kind of redundant in the BU model ) are described by co-ordinate points along a worldline ( that is the BU model's 'motion' ), and a line cannot be devoid of its constituent points.

I would say, based on most Americans I know ( not members of this forum ) that B Sanders will not only lose the election, but also the popular vote. American ideas about 'socialism' are THAT entrenched. That being said, I would like to see no-one over the age of 65 running for President. Retire already.

OK, now you've defined motion. How about the rest of the terms you use ? Using Eise's example... You sit in a chair at 13:00h and I take a photograph. You still sit in the chair at 13:01 and I take another photograph. You still sit in the chair at 13:02 and I take another photograph. You still sit in the chair at 13:03 and I take another photograph. You still sit in the chair at 13:04 and I take another photograph. At 13:05 you get up and move away from the chair and I take a photograph of an empty chair. You have moved, and according to you, vacated all pre-'now' time co-ordinates. Do you disappear from the previous 5 photographs ??? ( and for bonus marks, why not )

I don't know if we have any pilots involved in this discussion. When a plane 'rolls', it is referencing a banking maneuver, where it dips the wing on one side while elevating the wing on the opposite side. If the plane continues in a straight line, while banked, any suspended weight will tilt toward the 'low' side as OldChmE implies. However, since a plane has more control authority invested in its large wings, a bank is usually initiated to make a turn towards the 'low' side, using wing lift to lift the nose of the plane into the turn ( discussing only naturally stable aircraft at the moment ), and this implies a circular accelerated motion towards the 'low' side. As a result the suspended weight will have some tilt ( depending of acceleration or turn rate ) towards the 'high' side of the bank; a conflicting result from the straight and level case. I would think this makes any suspended weight useless for the purpose of stabilization.

Expanding on Phi's thoughts, most people are here to learn. And a lot of people learn by making 'mistakes'. We can't expect everyone to know all pertinent information before properly formulating a question. That being said, I sometimes get frustrated too, but we have to cut newcomers some slack. I'm sure I frustrated a few people when I first came on board.

No, no, no... The quote is "I’m funny how, I mean funny like I’m a clown? I amuse you? I make you laugh? I’m here to fuckin’ amuse you? Waddya mean “funny”? Funny how? How am I funny?" Joe Pesci, as Tommy, in Goodfellas to Ray Liotta, as Henry.

What I am describing is the Block Universe as I understand it. Not what Eise was describing. Not what the video is describing. And not what you tell me I'm describing. I have defined an 'event' as a co-ordinate ( x,y,z,t) in the block universe. Why don't you do the same with what you call an 'object', 'slide', 'fly', and all the other terminology you use to confuse yourself.
