Oh its even worse than that regarding K Harris. After reading that, I had a look at her Wiki page. Apparently she also spent some of her formative years, after her parents divorced and she moved away with her mother, in Montreal. Oh the horror ! She must be a separatist. Seriously though, 'race' is a two sided door. If you open the door to let your opinion out, you'll be letting in a whole lot of other's opinions; some not so nice. And I still think the posting was funny. It makes fun of the way politicians try to 'connect' with regular folks, when they are usually far removed. Like speaking Spanish to relate to Latinos; that you have little dealings with. Or relating your 'black' experience when your family was very affluent. And I'm sure we've all heard of the Republicans against gay rights, who are secretly 'experimenting'. Or ones claiming to be religious, who are ruthless businessmen, or are OK with gun violence. edit: If you don't find humor in this sort of thing, you're liable to snap, get a gun, and try to assassinate the President.

There is a difference between a 'mirror universe' and mirror particles which would exist in our universe. Mirror particles have their left/right symmetry switched ( as does a mirror ).

Read this posting on another forum I belong to ( Airliners.net ), that I thought was hilarious. "My liver hurts, haha...* Cory Booker's Spanish sucks. Robert Francis O'Rourke's isn't all that good either. But the pandering was in full bloom and it was hilarious. I was disappointed there was no Yiddish. Just a friendly reminder that Beto eats tacos with a fork, which is a deportable offense in Texas.* Pete Buttigieg is going to hurt himself if he falls off that high horse. Anyone else get the irony in him defending "all" religions (which would include Islam) even though he'd be fucking thrown off a roof in an Islamic country for being gay?* Marianne Williamsonoma is all kind of cuckoo. She made a few good points though, before going total batshit cray cray.* Kamala Harris is a fraud. Even beyond Willie Brown, she has no merit, talks a great game. She's not even "African-American" she's freaking Jamaican and Indian. And her family were slaveowners. GTFO with that. * Biden looks like he should just cash his chips and go to the titty bar. * Warren dominates the stage with her faux emotion. It was the best comedy I've seen in ages. SNL should hire her as a writer. * All 10 last night promised free health care for illegals. And Santa Claus is clearly on the ballot once again. Bottom line: we're probably fucked. By Slider Keep in mind I didn't actually see the debates, just some highlights, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of the above descriptions, but even if true, they are all head and shoulders above the current occupant of the White House.

The 11 dimensions of string theory
MigL replied to QuantumT's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
A 'dimension' is the domain of "degrees of freedom'. As such, they help formulate the mathematical model of reality. And since mathematical models have been known to have predictive abilities, there is a chance that they may be real. They would either be 'rolled-up', but extremely small ( so far undetectable ) dimensions, and have properties of Calabi-Yau manifolds. Or they could be large scale, in which, lower dimensional 'branes' reside. -
You would have to drain the system and 'winterize' it when temperatures get to below freezing, or you'll be testing the waterproofing of your roof shingles. We don't seem to get much Spring and Fall anymore ( when such a system would be effective ); just freezing Winters that go directly to scorching Summers.

The 'rifling' imparts the spin to the bullet in the barrel. That's where the bullet gains all its momentum ( linear and angular ). The spinning bullet's angular momentum resists changes to momentum along other axis. This gyroscopic effect will keep it from tumbling end over end ( the other axis ), due to destabilizing forces, and keep its nose pointing forward. These destabilizing forces are more prevalent in air, but even in space, rockets are subject to external forces, or imbalances in the thrust line caused by CG shifts ( a spinning unbalanced rocket will experience precession of its thrust line instead of larger and larger deviation ).
-
The spin imparts directional stability. Same reason a spinning top stays upright and doesn't fall over. It has nothing to do with air, and would give a space-going rocket more problems than it would alleviate.

"posting, making claims, and refusing to offer evidence in support of or clarify them when asked" I prefer to word it "posting opinions". And you refuse to acknowledge that its your own population you need to worry about in the 2020 election. Certainly not JC and I. Yes too soon. Almost as untimely as when JC suggested you held D Trump in high esteem. ( 23 hrs ago )
-
Again, it's not your friends here that you have to worry about. We can't vote in your elections. You have to worry about the people in States like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Mississipi and Missouri, where abortion is banned after the period of gestation before most women even know they are pregnant. They are the ones that you have to convince Democrat and 'far left' are not equivalent.

She is not calling him a racist, now. She implies he was in the past. The quote seems simple to interpret. ( I would hope you know by now when I'm not being serious )

Tyson - Is the universe a simulation (split from Discussable Topics)
MigL replied to HopDavid's topic in Quantum Theory
When did N DG Tyson's expertise become American politics ? I know I've misquoted people. Apparently you never have; Your arrogance is justified. -
Are you saying, Stringy, that while the choices made were discriminatory ( and ultimately wrong ), there may have been no bias against women, just practical ( but again, wrong ) concerns ? And does it make any difference to the women involved ?

Everyone makes mistakes. A Einstein did too. Do you consider him an incompetent buffoon ? -
I fail to understand the importance of what JC considers ;far left'; He will not be voting in any American elections. And I'm pretty sure INow will be voting Democrat; Any Democrat, no matter what they propose. What is important is how half of the American population will vote, and what THEY consider 'far left'. And "Nobody is saying people are racist merely for disagreeing" is implied when K Harris attacks J Biden, after having evolved and become a better human being in the last 50 yrs, and practically calls him a racist on National TV. The candidates should be presenting their vision for the future and platforms, instead of attacking each other. Try to remember they are on the same team, with the same objective; A return to sane American government. They are merely providing D Trump, and a lot of gullible Americans, with ammunition to use during the election, and may unwittingly help him get re-elected.
-
Darn it. Although we may be off-topic, this is one of the best threads going, at this time.
-
You and JC seem to be talking apples and oranges, INow. JC is talking about what a large number of Americans consider the 'far left'. You want to discuss what JC ( and I ) consider the 'far left'. The two are not equivalent. You should realize that, most of the 'positions' mentioned in your post above, we already have in Canada. And JC and I probably voted for them; but we don't get to vote in American elections I just hate to see someone like J Biden, who would make an excellent President, being taken to task ( and damaged ) by the other contenders, because he is not 'far left' enough. He can win the election, and rid the world of President D Trump, while the others run the risk of being labelled Socialists and Communists ( like B Sanders did ). And not by JC or I, but by a large number of American people. Sticking to principles but losing the election accomplishes a lot less than compromising on some and winning the election. But hey, we are just two observers from North of the border.
-
Losing, by getting 2 million ( IIRC ) more votes, is a fault of your Electoral System. Russian 'collusion' is a different matter altogether.
-
The + usually means 'and'. Do I need to insult your intelligence too ? This has gotten ridiculous. Do you and John have previous issues, or is it OCD ? Move on and discuss the OP.
-
You could have probably pulled up a very similar graphic from 2015, INow. How did that election turn out ? Enough people who were pissed off about things turned out to vote for D Trump, as opposed to not enough people who cared about the top political issues. Let's not repeat, please.
-
Defeating D Trump. Some of the contenders for the nomination are doing D Trump's job for him by attacking each other.
-
My two cents... Didn't see much of either debate, just some 'highlights'. I got the impression J Biden wanted to talk about D Trump, and winning the presidential election. Some of the others ( K Harris ), by attacking each other, seem to want to make this is a contest for the runner up to D Trump in the Presidential election. I'll repeat, what I posted months ago when I saw the number of candidates for the Democratic nomination. The Dems need to keep their eye on the ball and what is important.

Why dont we imprison people who dont respect different races and cultures
MigL replied to anaccountnow's topic in Politics
Everyone is free to like or dislike ( and for whatever reason ) whoever they want. The actions they can take, based on those likes/dislikes, are ( somewhat ) regulated by laws. We don't need no stinkin' thought police ! -
"whether we can avoid the Trump media attention whore blackhole as he live tweets it" You didn't really think he could resist, did you ?

I would certainly NOT call him an incompetent buffoon. But quite a few scientists ( including the likes of S Hawking ) have put too much 'pop' in their science. It's a direct result of 'dumbing down' the science for the attention challenged masses.
