I would only worry about the Earth not being spherical, if I ever got close to the edge. So that's not gonna happen.

I think my opinion, for what its worth, is similar to the position I took in the 'stupid woman' thread. Some people are easily offended, and any decent person ( or one who wishes to save their political career ) will apologize for causing offence. The tweet by I Omar, made no mention of Jews, and you need to make some assumptions in order to associate the money in her tweet, with Jews. The statement was about the monetary influence of lobbyist, and can only be anti-Semitic if one makes the 'connection' of money to Jews. And as far as I'm concerned, that means the offended person has preconceived notions about Jews. Just as if you choose to identify any adjective of the word 'woman' as a gender bias then you have preconceived notions about women.

I just like to disagree with Ten oz, INow. No, seriously, I assumed he meant there SHOULD be further consequences. My bad.
-
Oh no, not another one. Just when I thought it was safe to come back to the Physics forum. You haven't really provided any evidence, just a simplistic statement that "gravity restricts the motion of all objects in the universe". That's pretty feeble compared to a century of testing, by the world's best minds, that GR has passed with flying colors. You were good until you got to the third line and started down the wrong path with "I will now prove...".

I am and have been a staunch supporter of Israel and Jewish culture, and have had many disagreements over it, with other members on this forum. However, in this case, I'm gonna have to disagree with you, Ten oz ( again ). I don't know the context of I Omar's post, but given what you've posted, it could simply be a variation of the old adage "money is the root of all evil" And a remark about lobbyists is suddenly anti-Semitic. She realized that her tweet was offensive to some, and has apologized. But to call her tweet anti-Semitic or racist is a stretch that doesn't quite get there. I don't see a need for any further 'consequences'. ( is this going to turn into another "stupid woman" thread ? )

Play the slots, kid. You have better chances of leaving with your shirt.

So, are we taking bets yet, on whether the US Government shuts down again ?
-
Did you find any cocaine in the trunk ? No, wait, that was later.

I have never heard of this. Where are you from ? Had they done this at my Elementary school, we would have spent our recess going up the stairs and down the fire escape, instead of playing baseball or soccer ( that's football to you Brits ).

Will it be possible and allowed to edit ancestry in the future?
MigL replied to Futuregenetics's topic in Speculations
You are confusing ancestry with genetics. One can already be edited, the other is a historical fact. 'Randolph the dimwit' in my family tree ? Whew ! I'm Italian by birth, and Randolph is not an Italian name. ( although my last name might be French derived ) -
Have read speculations about all the 'apparent' photons in the universe being one photon at different times. What flavor of bubblegum is 'princess' ?
-
Nope. I really wanted a DeLorean in the 80s. Had to settle for a Pontiac Fiero. ( with a V6 mind you, not a 'girly' four cylinder )
-
You would need a 1.21 gigawatt flux capacitor in a DeLorean, JC. You can't be in another frame while driving your Chevy.

Neither of those is quite correct, INow. It is neither a construct, nor does entropy always increase with time. And while we can measure time, or differences in time, Stringy, it is the only dimension where we are 'fixed' in the present, or 'now'. Everyone's 'now' ( there is no universal now , only a local approximation ) proceeds at the same rate in their own frame. 'Now' is the only co-ordinate of this dimension we can interact with. Other differences include the ability to 'remember' the past, or previous co-ordinates, but not future ones. IOW, while different from spatial dimensions, it is nonetheless, real.

My 'source' is any introductory QM textbook. Th square of the magnitude ( of the wavefunction ) at any given point corresponds to the probability of finding the particle at that point. The Bohr/Einstein exchange relates to observational collapse of the wave function ( and taking it to silly extremes ).
-
So its event horizon would have a radius just outside the orbit of Uranus... Not really large compared to interstellar distances.
-
Neither quote refers to 'massless' anything. They relate the wave function to a probability ( or potentiality ) distribution rather than a physical object, such that it cannot be 'regarded as real'

Well at least he has seen the error of his previous ways, and apologized for them. People are allowed to be educated, and not remain ignorant. Others ( although I may like B Clinton ) have never apologized for their sexist treatment of young interns, or lying under oath while POTUS. And his wife defending him, and blaming the young intern. Yet you saw no problem voting for her. ( or was it simply because the alternative was, and is, so bad ) Why different standards for J Biden ? ( you have other reasons ? )
-
I have read that 'good old' J Biden has the top approval/favorability ratings of the field of potential candidates. In a lot of ways, he reminds me of B Sanders: not so much his political stance, but his 'ease' with people. What do you more knowledgeable guys think. Would it be a mistake ? ( and why ? )

A theory of everything. The truth about creation.

Haa-Haa-Haa ( maybe it was a joke ? ) -
Well, that explains your brother, INow. What happened to you ? ( sorry, couldn't resist )

Q about black holes (split from Black Hole Energy Distribution)
MigL replied to Airbrush's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
If you watch the L Susskind video, he does a pretty good job of describing how material falling into a BH ( as observed from a distant FoR ), adds domain(s) to the surface area of the EH. These domains are a measure of the Entropy of the BH/EH. Now no-one has ever put a thermometer through an event horizon to measure the temperature, but we know ( from Thermodynamics ) that Entropy is related to temperature by DeltaS = Q/T. So we know that a BH /EH must have a temperature even if we can't measure it. Any virtual particles must annihilate because they exist on 'borrowed' energy. If they both escape, or they both cross the event horizon, there is no problem re-paying the mass-energy back to the 'universe', and there is NO mass increase to the BH. It is only when the virtual particle pair is separated by an EH that re-payment by annihilation becomes impossible, and we have the strange situation of one virtual particle forced to become real Hawking radiation, and the other effectively becoming 'negative' mass-energy, and causing the BH to lose an equivalent amount of mas-energy. If two people, one slightly ahead of the other, cross an EH, the one following will not see the first ahead of him. Neither of them will see anything in front of them, as light, and any information is restricted to travelling only towards the center. This means that, not only can you not see anything ahead of you inside the event horizon, but nothing ahead of you can ever affect you in any way, until you reach the 'edge' of space-time at the ( possible ) singularity. -
Can't comment on her views because I don't agree with them, so I'll comment on her appearance... She's not a bad looking woman, but those are the skinniest legs I've ever seen. Either wear pants instead of short skirts, or eat something. Is that sexist ? ( yes, I know it is, I'm in a whimsical today )

Same is true in Canada. If the prime Minister/governing party is defeated on a major bill ( like a budget ), that is equivalent to a no-confidence vote, and the governing party can be replaced by an amalgamated government of the 2nd and 3rd parties ( by the GG ). That is obviously impossible with the American system.
