Health benefits of cheese...and other things (split from inhaling hydrogen)
MigL replied to DrP's topic in Medical Science
Cheese is bad for you ???? Damn it, cheese is one of my favorite foods; I could easily eat a pound of it. Unfortunately, a pound of it would 'bind me up' for a few days. No problem, though, I just prepare a couple of toasted tomato sandwiches ( acidic tomatoes, carbs in the bread, fats in the bacon and mayo, and more cheese ), and that 'loosens' me back to regularity. -
Five Brilliant Ideas For New Physics That Need To Die, Already
MigL replied to swansont's topic in Science News
It seems somewhat disingenuous for the article to suggest that the concept of supersymmetry should be abandoned, primarily because SS particles haven't been found yet; But, alternatives to Dark Matter should be discarded even though DM hasn't been found yet. Keep all options open. ( until overwhelming evidence suggests otherwise ) -
Not the only purpose, but it is an important one. The well-being of the children depends on it.

I find it somewhat ironic that a lot of countries have introduced a 'baby bonus' system, which in Canada is approx. CAN$1300 per child, as a means of promoting child-birth and combat an aging population, yet, provide 'free' contraception through the Health Care system. But I suppose, wanted children ( by choice ) are a better outcome than the alternatives.

An absolute lungs protection?
MigL replied to Moreno's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
That helps in the case where pressures are also a problem ( as in The Abyss ). Otherwise, what's wrong with a supplied air respirator, or SCBA. It keeps everything other than 'fresh' air out, and, since it's external, it can be removed without coughing up a gallon or more of liquid. -
A Model of Spacetime, as seen from comments by myself and Matti Pitkanen
MigL replied to Dubbelosix's topic in Speculations
Sure, but this half that has been found, the baryonic hot gas filaments between galaxies, would, in no way affect galactic rotation. So we are, in effect, back where we started from. We still have the other half to account for, and, if as you say, galactic rotation curves can be explained by torsion effects of supermassive Black Holes, where would we , then, start looking ? And how massive would the central BH of, say our galaxy, for it to affect spiral arm rotation, at a distance of 30 to 50 thousand light years, through torsion ? And why is the central core not also flattened out into a disk by the torsion ? -
All this would be moot, if the US government provided a viable Health Care Plan for all its citizens.

Infinite density, not infinite mass, and so, no infinite gravity. The mathematical solution is singular, the 'reality', most likely not.

Why is ScienceForums going so slowly these Days?
MigL replied to studiot's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
Spoke too soon... Gotten progressively worse. waiting about a minute to navigate between pages, sign in, or save a post. ( feel like I'm on dial-up again ) -
And I thought it was just the Basque region that wanted separation. Is Spain going the way of Yugoslavia ? And more importantly, will Barcelona and Real Madrid be in different leagues in the future ?

Excellent post iNow. But to be fair BLM has used these tactics before. Right here in Toronto, so RangerX should know about them. For two years in a row they have shut down or threatened to shut down, the PRIDE parade, unless certain elements of society are excluded from the march. That this sort of divisive behavior would be allowed for an event that is all about inclusion, is an indication of where BLM is headed. All waitforufo is asking, is whether this is consistent with RangerX's Liberal stance. And he has proceeded to dance around the subject while calling waitforufo a few of the typical names hurled at anyone who disagrees with him ( bigot ). The fact that RangerX can't bring himself to denounce some of the militant actions of BLM, while agreeing that no one should be intimidated, or shouted down, for speaking their mind, is the problem of overzealous political correctness. What to do when the oppressed people you're trying to protect, start acting like their oppressors ?

Listen sci-man... I know you're just a kid, and you think anything is possible; I was the same at your age, and I wish I still had that attitude. You've had some good people tell you what the laws of science restrict you from doing, and Roger telling you differently and just confusing everyone. Did any of his answers/suggestions even make any sense ? What exactly is 'will of motion' and 'transfer of force from another dimension' ? I'm sure if you do a google search for these terms , you'll get nothing relevant. You seem pretty bright, take the information you've been given here, and do your own research on various sites ( such as Wiki ). I' sure you'll find plenty relating thermodynamic laws to perpetual motion machines and their impossibility. You'll soon find out what the rest of us already know about Roger.

Originally thought it was the latest Win 10 update that was buggering things up. Tried another laptop without the update, and same issues. Logged on tonite, and seems pretty smooth sailing ( or surfing ) so far. Thanks Cap'n. -
From QM considerations, it could never get to 0 deg anyway.
-
The ACLU speaker, and students who wished to hear her, should have designated that venue a 'safe space'; Then BLM protesters wouldn't have been able to intimidate them.
-
On second thought, just go to the Wiki entry on Laws of Thermodynamics. If you ask here, you will get some very good answers, but also others, which steer you down the path to being a 'crackpot'.

Just intended as a possible suggestion... But maybe, sometimes individual rights have to come second to society's safety. To quote Mr Spock... "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." To quote Cpt Kirk... "Or the one."

You should get rid of it until you learn about the dangers of radiation. Radioactive materials, even glow-in-the dark Radium paint and Americium from smoke detectors can seriously affect the long-term health of a pre-teen. ( and if you want to have kids someday, don't keep it in your pockets )
-
Sorry to disappoint you... I know very little biology, and can assure you that your perpetual motion experiments will be failures. Maybe you should study up on the Thermodynamic laws. ( or feel free to ask here )

how do I search for content by a specific member?
MigL replied to scherado's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
It would be more appropriate if that ostrich's head was up its ass, iNow. ( and don't ratt me out this time, John ) -
The first step, separation of H2O2 to Oxygen and water, is very easy; Almost any impurity will break it down, if it isn't already happening on its own. The second step, separating the water to Hydrogen and Oxygen, you're probably already familiar with.

Eeuwww ! Really ? Toilet humor in a very serious thread ? ( though Scherado seems to have again obliterated any serious discussion ) PS: I can post anything I want because I'm on his ignore list, and he can't see my posts.

I you understood the idea of quantization that Vmedvil was trying to teach you with regard to the quantization of light, which is Electromagnetic Radiation, this implies that the electromagnetic force is quantized, through a theory called Quantum Electro Dynamics. Two other forces have been quantized also, the weak force, which is a 'spin-off' of the Electromagnetic force and the Strong Nuclear force , which makes up the protons and neutrons in the atom's nucleus ( see Vmedvil' description ) through a theory called Quantum Chromo Dynamics. The only force which resists quantization, so far, is the Gravitational force, and we are unable to deal with the Gravitational force when masses are really ( I mean really, really ) close together. String theory, and another called Loop Quantum Gravity are two attempts at a working theory. Unfortunately, with our present technology, neither can be tested for accuracy. If you understood Vmedvil's post, and what I was trying to convey, you already know more than 95% of average persons. And I'm impressed ( and proud ) of your 'need to know' and desire to learn. Keep it up and someday we'll be asking you questions.

Wild speculation is useless, educated speculation is based on some understanding of the principles involved. Virtual particles exist because they are allowed to. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle is what allows them to exist. It says that for non-relativistic treatments the following relation holds... deltaE * deltaT < hbar/2 ( should be less than or equal to, but I don't do LaTex ) so that for a short duration, energy can be 'borrowed', and after that duration, has to be paid back. This is how virtual particle come into existence and annihilate, leaving no residual energy. But because they are popping in and out of existence throughout empty space ( and even about real particles, modifying their fields and properties ), they give empty space a certain vacuum energy: It is this energy, variously called the ( Einstein ) Cosmological Constant, or Dark Energy ( because we don't have a handle on calculating it from first principles yet ) that is driving ( and accelerating ) expansion. Dark matter, on the other hand, is conjectured to exist because the galactic arms are NOT 'winding'. If we consider the mass that is inside the galactic arms, It isn't enough to keep the arms rotating as if the galactic disk was solid; The arms would be winding up, IE the center spinning faster than the edges of the disk. The only way we can get galactic rotation to fit observation is if the sphere inside the galactic arms has fairly even mass distribution, IE extra hemispherical mass distributions above and below the galactic disk. IOW we detect this mass gravitationally ( by its influence ), but not electromagnetically, as it doesn't seem to absorb or radiate EMR ( the other forces are short range and useless in our analysis ). So we call it Dark Matter ( because again, we don't know what it is, NOT because of any relation to Dark Energy ). It could be composed of any particles which have mass, and interact weakly or not at all Elecromagnetically. Mordred's neutrinos fit the bill, although the have very little rest mass, they are extremely numerous, interact via the weak force and so are extremely hard to detect. There are numerous other candidates though.

Again, Ten oz , I'm not criticizing B Obama; Don't put words in my mouth. I'm just exploring possibilities that a sensible president might have enacted ( as opposed to the current ). Obviously I have EO and the scope of your laws wrong. My apologies.
