How do you know you haven't encountered any ? Why would they tell you ? How do you know Sensei is not a time traveler sent back from the future to terminate you ?
-
The last time I heard a good come-back for " Who is 'we' ( sucka') ? " was from my avatar... " Mr. Smith, Mr. Wesson and me " Unfortunately that doesn't apply in this case. But I gotta ask Willie, who do you support now ?

You're right iNow, it was a 'jab', but not directed specifically at Swansont, just his line of reasoning. We're all perfectly ready to accept and believe all sorts of wrongdoing on D. Trump's part, stemming from the fact that he won't release his tax records ( H. Clinton mentioned those conclusions that may be drawn last night and Ten oz has summarized ). But this doesn't belong in a thread about H. Clinton ( something I've railed against previously ). For that, I extend my apologies, Swansont.

Theoretical relations with us and us being extraterestrial
MigL replied to RookieScienceTheorist's topic in Earth Science
A better outlet for your active imagination may be writing science fiction stories. That is, if you can get a handle on your writing style. -
Well, it is about personalities, for sure. But you're absolutely right, people who have always voted Republican will continue to do so, no matter who's heading them up, and people who have always voted Democrat will also. Is that a problem with the American political system, or the American populace ?
-
So what assumptions do you make about D. Trump, who hasn't released his tax returns ? Given that he paid no federal taxes in the years when he had to disclose them to the Gaming Commission, and that he boasted last night that 'he's too smart to pay taxes', is it just your bias making you assume that he pays very little or no taxes ? Or can you draw some conclusions from innuendo ?
-
I wonder how polls will react to last night's side-by-side comparison ? I wonder if all the misinformed Americans supporting that jackass who may NOT pay ANY taxes ( he hasn't released his records, he must be hiding something ; sometimes you can draw conclusions from innuendo, Swansont ), will re-think their support after last night's showing. H. Clinton seemed very prepared for the debate, just as she seems prepared for the Presidency. D. Trump's comments and answers sometimes seemed out of context or disconnected from the issue being discussed. He seems more ignorant of basic facts than his supporters are. I can't imagine a President thinking and talking like D. Trump does.

This whole argument could have ended a long time ago had some people admitted that H. Clinton has her faults and has committed some transgressions which may make her credibility and honesty circumspect. And the rest of us would have gladly admitted that even considering that, she IS the better, more competent choice for president. Instead we have 29 pages of people claiming she has never done anything wrong or been dishonest about it because she's never been charged or convicted. ( you guys must still be O.J. Simpson fans ) The funny part is that during the nomination process, most of you guys 'spit' when her name was mentioned as front-runner of the Democratic contenders. Patiently waiting for the debate to start.

Just like you have a small number of police who go out of their way to harass Black Americans, and yes, in some cases, murder them, you also have a small number of Black Americans who are extremely militant and may even want to see dead cops. I'm more familiar with BLM locally. Here in Toronto, BLM hijacked the PRIDE parade and stopped the march, unless all cops ( yes even the gay ones ) were excluded from the parade. It may have made national news and drawn attention to the BLM cause, but it is clearly divisive. You don't improve your disadvantaged situation by stepping on another group of disadvantaged people.

No, white ( and brown ) dwarf stars have the same upper size limit. Determined by degeneracy factors. See Chandrashekar limit.

On one of the other threads, iNow has posted a cartoon about athletes who refuse to stand for the national anthem. These athletes are protesting a certain aspect of American culture. They are not saying the US is a bad place ( or else they would have left and gone to another country ), but that it could certainly be improved, and be made even better. ( they do however have to suffer the consequences of exercising their right to protest, and the coach may not play them, or the fans may "Boooo" them ) That is all some of us are saying about H. Clinton. She IS the better candidate ( then again anyone would be ). But that doesn't mean she's perfect and has made no mistakes. Se has faults and has 'skeletons in her closet'. Could the Democrats have fielded a better candidate ? Sure ( but they may have not won the election ) So why is it so wrong to examine and discuss these faults and mistakes ( she may have or may not have made ) ?

In government, Swansont, appearance of wrong-doing is just as damaging as actual wrong-doing. It erodes the people's trust. And many politicians have resigned over appearances ( with no actual proof )

Sorry if BLM was off-topic. But was it not one of the original ideologies mentioned by Tampitump, along with safe spaces, feminism and Islam ? Should it not have been left here for 'continuation' ?
-
Thank you for elaborating Swansont. The approach taken by iNow, on the other hand, to shut down dissenting viewpoints by labelling them with derogatory terms like 'wrong/inaccurate/unfounded nonsense' or 'strawman/exaggeration/hyperbole' all while having a coughing fit for appearance of vulnerability and the sympathy factor ( that last part was a joke, don't take it seriously ), is one often ( but not always ) used by BLM. Shut down any discussion of dissenting opinions on the issues by labelling the dissenting opinions 'racist'. This tactic is used by everyone... Attack Israeli policy and you are labelled anti Semitic or anti Zionist. Attack governmental financial policy and you're labelled conservative. Attack capitalism and you're labelled a bleeding heart, commie pinko. etc. etc. etc. ( sorry, not everyone, just quite a few )

A modern microprocessor has billions of components ( transistors ), while one built just 40 years ago had less than 10000. There are many ways to handle complexity and the exponential increase of things that can go wrong. One of the simplest is redundancy. Modern military aircraft don't have mechanical signaling for controls anymore, as many are now unstable and need computer control to be able to fly. But these digital signaling systems are triplex or even quadruplex redundant.

What a way to go. Death by Cardhu or Lagavulin.

Better take something for that cough, iNow. And this is a discussion, tell me how/where I'm wrong. Don't just state it.

This thread seems to be dying out, so let's throw another log on the fire... The BLM movement was created to protest the systemic profiling and discrimination against Black people, by police forces, leading to stops/arrests/deaths, simply because all black people are seen as criminals, not just the few that actually are. The approach, so far, has been to call all policemen racists, even Black cops, not just the few that actually are. Often times, the cop ( shooter ) is 'convicted' in the street, by people who don't have all the facts/evidence, just before rioting breaks out. And none of the members of BLM speak out against the few crazies amongst them who advocate targeting/killing cops. This seems to me, to be combatting discriminatory racism with more discrimination/generalization directed at another group ( cops ). It may not technically be racism, but it sure stinks like it.

Massless particles don't actually 'experience' time. Yet their speed is limited to c. They are certainly not 'instantaneous'.

How Do I Reduce Stress Naturally?
MigL replied to jimmydasaint's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
Definitely exercise. It has a calming effect. And when you get frustrated and stressed about things, come to this forum, stir up some sh*t, and vent your frustrations. You'd be surprised how calming it is to stress other people out ! -
I, on the other hand, have always thought that those qualities ( center of road ) might make it easier for her to work with Republicans; to actually get some things done. I may have wanted a 'reformer' like B. Sanders to make the US more 'Canadian', but always thought he would get too much push-back, as has happened to B. Obama every time he tried to implement something.

Authorities can only prevent you from committing murder if you've already committed the crime of planning it. If you're just walking down the street and kill the first Scotsman you meet, there is no way to prevent that. And everyone does agree to rights 'just being there' Strange. At least in the case of their own rights. Its everyone else's rights that are questioned.
