No, the effect has been well known for years. It was used in internal combustion ( piston ) engines of WW2 fighter planes and even some 60s vintage jet planes, where it has an even more substantial effect. The disadvantage is that you could, instead of carrying water with you, carry a much smaller amount of extra fuel, and then use super/turbo charging of the air to enable its use. You would need to add a large amount of water to cool the intake charge enough to be able to stuff twice the amount of air into a combustion chamber while turbochargers do it routinely. Edit: Search for Water Injection ( engine ) on Wikipedia.

He ( Aron Ra ) presents himself as intelligent and professional in this video. But in others, while still intelligent, he comes off as a bit of a dick. In politics, its all about telling people what they want to hear.

Or, it could be bad circulation due to your smoking habit. Maybe the situation will improve now that you're making an attempt to quit ?

Was life, and changes to it, really that 'glacial' before WW2 ( 75 yrs ago ) ? Consider that 75 yrs before WW2, Napoleon III and his French troops were defeated at Sedan by Bismark's Prussian troops. Both men were at the field of battle, and both still carried swords. Neither of them, or any of the troops knew anything about radioactivity, or even what atoms were. Yet 75 years later, WW2 ended with the detonation of two nuclear weapons. That may not seem like a big deal to us, now. But I bet they thought things had changed very rapidly also.

The Wiki entry for 'Poincare Group' is actually very understandable, Geordief. ( at my level of understanding, beginner level ) It explains the ten degrees of freedom of Minkowsky space-time, which comprise the isometries ( the property of invariant intervals between events ), and relates it to the ten parameters of the Galilean Group and its absolute space-time.

Every generation ( since the time of the Greeks ), as they become old, have lamented that things are changing way too fast, that young people are disrespectful and irresponsible, and that things were so much better in the old days. Different doesn't necessarily mean worse. I suggest that the only thing that's changed is their age, and they miss their youth. ( I know I do )

They can be, in that they lead to measurable effects.

Minkowsky space-time ( flat, ignoring gravity effects ) is not a group. It is certain transformational operations ( isometries IIRC ) that are part of a non-Abelian Lie group. The Lorentz transforms of SR are a sub-group of the Poincaire group.

Thanks Sudiot, I'll see if I can find it. The lecture notes AJB recommended ( for which I thank you AJB ) may be introductory to him, as he works with these concepts everyday, but they are far from it for me. I'm hoping your suggestion is a little more 'introductory'.

Not strictly space-time, but look up Kaluza-Klein theory, where an additional dimension allows for the inclusion of EM forces.

Well, your only other alternative is to get very rich. You don't think wrinkly old Hugh Hefner has all those women hangin around 'cause he's good looking, do you ?

You're too old to start dating now ??? I'm almost 57 yrs old, and still occasionally date. Not that I'm looking for a relationship, but everyone needs human companionship. ( my two cats just don't cut it ) You can't just chat on the internet for the next 50 yrs or so. Life is what YOU make of it, not the lot you're dealt. Live your life. You won't get a second chance ( I get the impression you don't believe in the after-life ).

Greg Frewin, who has a local theater here in Niagara Falls, but also appears in Vegas, cruise ships, TV specials, etc. Mostly because my niece has been in his show for about 8 yrs.

If you weren't so down on religion , you might try meeting women at church services. You could provide an outlet for all those women's repressed sexual urges. I'm not religious, but, for years, when I was younger, the only mass I would attend would be midnight mass on Christmas eve. All the girls were dressed up like they were going clubbing, and afterwards was like a party with everyone wishing everyone else a Merry Christmas, exchanging hugs and kisses. Then a bunch of us would go for breakfast. And then... Damn, I miss being young. P.S. - Sometimes I see real unattractive dudes with gorgeous women. I don't know you, but you seem to be the only one continually saying you're not attractive and not very intelligent, Maybe you're wrong. And you've certainly proved in this thread and others, that you are interesting, or at least have interesting opinions.

I upgraded a win7 laptop to win10 just a few days ago. I hadn't planned to activate win10 and the laptop had an educational version of win7 home premium. I was going to re-load win10 at a later date and use the 'assistive technologies' free upgrade offer ( which is still doable ). On a lark I decided to activate win10 using the win7 educational code and it worked. Apparently MS is still allowing the free upgrade to win10 after Jul29.

I'm not suggesting we should do anything. I'm simply stating that the current situation is unfair to a large number of women. Did you see the race Delta ? It looked like two different races. One group of women ( masculine looking ) were so far ahead of the other group ( feminine looking ) that they could have raced on different tracks. I, myself, didn't see it as a fair competition. ( I also don't see how to change things to make it fair for everyone )

Sure there is, and its the same reasons the chimps have, greed, lust, power, etc. Being able to reason just lets you think of even more ways to satisfy your greed, lust, need for power, etc.

No-one is born with their adult levels of testosterone. That level rises at puberty ( and your voice changes, you lose 'baby' fat, gain muscle density and grow body hair ). Remember back in the 70s and 80s when Russian female gymnasts of 18 yrs age looked like they were 12 yrs old. The Russians were accused of delaying the onset of puberty for those athletes to gain an unfair advantage, as estrogen tends to lower muscle density and store additional fat. Alas no-one could prove it.

I was a bit of a 'gear-head' in my younger days... The only reason higher octane fuel produces more horsepower is because it can take advantage of higher initial timing, or how many degrees before top-dead-center the spark can fire the fuel-air mixture. Alternately it allows a higher compression ratio or turbo/super charging. This puts the explosion/expansion at a more advantageous position to produce power and other cylinders waste less. It does this by reducing the speed that the flame front travels through the air-fuel mixture, in effect by being LESS explosive. That pinging you hear at wide-open-throttle while going up-hill in high gear is pre-ignition. The flame front explodes too fast and slams against the aluminum piston dome. It can actually blow a hole in it, ruining your engine. Believe it or not, in North America the highest octane consumer gasoline at a rating of 94 is obtained by mixing up to 20 % methanol with gasoline . And some higher performing vehicles have pre-ignition detection. If a sensor detects the pinging vibration, the computerized ignition lowers the initial timing to eliminate it. Still, a lot of high performance vehicles, especially turbocharged or supercharged, require the use of 91 or higher octane.

One could argue that human aggression is instinctive. We are after all, animals. One could them make the argument that religion, which came even earlier than societal structure, is what curbed our instinctive nature, It taught us to 'play nice' with each other against our baser instincts. In other words ( if you are religious and believe that sort of thing ), it gave us a 'soul'.

And none of that addresses the concerns I raised. I'm not saying the choice should be one way or another, just that with advancements in medical tech, some women, or, all women are going to be disadvantaged. You'll have women with the testosterone level of men making it unfair for other women, or you'll have to disqualify women with man-level testosterone. You can't have it both ways. I'm glad Its the Olympic Committee's problem.

Thanks for the concern DrP, but it was a rhetorical question. Both of the named individuals are evil villains out to rule the world. -
Any introductory textbooks you can recommend, AJB, to get a better grip on fibre bundle treatment of fields ? Assume a working knowledge of diff. geometry and just a basic understanding of topology/group theory.
