I suggest you've mis-read my post. And agree with everything you say, except the part where you analise what 'i seem to think'.

I may have been a little 'harsh' on you, Ten oz. Is it only current examples you want, or can we include examples from the past ? The conservatives ( Republicans ) were once champions of equal rights, for example. And liberals ( Democrats ) got the US into the original 'quagmire' called the Vietnam War.

I bet hitchBOT thinks so, zapatos. Then again he only travelled through Europe and Canada without incident. And lasted two weeks in the US ! He never made it to Chad or Paraguay, so I can't draw any conclusions from the available data. And even though iNow says he's de-dunked this assertion ( I read your links, where exactly ? ), almost every home in Switzerland has a gun in it, because of their military structure. Yet the incidence of gun deaths is way lower. The conclusion I draw is that it is not gun availability that is a contributing factor in the large amount of gun deaths in the US. It could be a contributing factor ( Swiss gun deaths are higher than other European countries, but nowhere near US numbers )but certainly not the major one. Other factors may be training ( the Swiss males train two weeks per year in para-military training ) and of course, inherent violence of the society. I'm just trying to examine these other factors.

What is being 'sensed', can affect us and can be measured. What is 'imagined' cannot affect us and cannot be measured. The Sun, as it 'currently is' falls into the second catagory, similar to other universes,or multiverses. Or the part of the universe external to the observable universe, we know something must be there, but it can never affect us so it may as well be imaginary. Or the 'place' where you can look at the bock universe and 'see' every event concurrently in the same place. Where exactly in the universe, is this place which by definition, requires you to be outside space-time to have this 'God's eye' view ? Don't try to pass off your imagination as science, or even philosophy.

I have seen 'negative vacuum ENERGY' or 'pressure' many times. 'Negative vacuum', not so much. Is that what the objection is, or am I missing something ?

Thermodynamic arrow of time. Equating Entropy and Disorder?
MigL replied to Sorcerer's topic in Classical Physics
If, by uniform you mean the same thing I mean, then you can re-arrange any of the particles making up that 'uniform' gas/system and nothing will change. There is no potential, and no useable energy to do work with, and therefore entropy is maximized. You see this with the usual example of two gases of differing temperature, in a box, separated by a partition. When the gases are separate, you have a temperature potential dfferencs, and so, can do work. Once the separation is removed the gases quickly intermingle into a 'uniform' distribution. There is no more temperatute potential difference, no more work can be done using a temp difference, and entropy is maximized -
Non-Euclidian geometry A geometry where the interior angles of a triangle do not add up to 180 degrees. Popularised by Gauss, Boylai, and eventually, Riemann, and used by Einstein as a model for space-time geometry in GR. Edit- Sorry took too long. Disregard. Tidal force Differential gravitational force exerted on an object of size by a gravitating mass.

I still think Americans are inherently more violent and anti-social than other people/cultures. It doesn't matter if you take away their guns. Recently hitchBOT made its way across Europe and Canada without incident. Google for details. But two weeks into its American journey to reach California, it was decapitated and dismembered in Philadelphia. Its funny, but it paints a bleak picture of American society. And why is Harold trying to ban cats ?

Apollo US space program which resulted in the first manned Moon Landing. Deity of Greek mythology.

No -Hair Theorem A theorem by J.A. Wheeler stating that upon gravitational collapse, the only properties conserved by a Black hole are mass, momentum and charge.

Those examples are a good idea in 'good economic' times. In 'bad economic' times, you end up with a bunch of college grads who can't find a job. Do you think it would be wise for Greece to implement those policies ? Now you could make the argument that providing "free' college degrees provides equal opportunities for people, but if the cost provides billions of dollars to foreign banks, from whom you borrowed the money to pay for these 'opportunities', who are you really helping ? I've found that often Republicans and Democrats use the same policies, and make the same bad decisions; Conservatives grow the government and overspend, Liberals start wars and contribute to the industrio-military complex. And sometimes they can both make good decisions. Its only when they become ideological about their decision making, and either refuse to collaborate with the opposition on an arguably good decision, or, stick to making a bad decision for the circumstances because its 'their policy', that they screw things up ( and yes, I know, the Republicans, as of late, are much more guilty of this ). I also think that this is a 'bait' topic, and you hope to pounce on anyone who makes a suggestion of a 'good' conservative policy, and feel good about yourself for putting down those evil Conservatives. Maybe your 'ideology' is showing a bit.

And you still don't grasp that " what its currently doing " is meaningless. The Sun could have stopped burning, or even vanished, but nothing would change for 8 min. Its image, heat, gravity, etc., would be exactly the same. We would see it in the sky, feel its warmth and continue orbiting it for 8 min, as no information can travel any faster. You can imagine what the Sun is 'currently' doing, but that's all it is until information reaches us, IMAGINATION.

Radiation era Initial phase of the universe when dynamics were governed by radiation. Spanned the time 10 sec to 10^12 sec after the Big bang and preceeded the matter era and dark-energy era ( current ).

And QED and QCD says particles are a result of their respective fields.
-
And you don't seem to understand that a 'local now' does not apply to something that is 7 ( more like 8 ) light-minutes away. The only information and effects you can possibly get from the Sun are 8 minutes removed. It makes no sense to say " I am seeing the Sun as it was 8 minutes ago; What is it actually doing 'now' ? "

Kerr black hole A rotating black hole described by Kerr's solution to the Einstein equations for a spinning, point mass.
-
Goldstone boson A spin 0, massless particle which is produced when a global symmetry is spontaneously broken.

Interesting stuff. I remember when first studying statistical mechanics, thinking " how is it possible to model the behavior of a billion, billion particles ?" I was young and naïve. Now we're building mathematical models to predict the 'unpredictable'.

Year Time taken for Earth to make one revolution about the Sun. ( no, I'm not going back to check if its been used already )
-
And when you combine quantum effects with chaotic systems, what do you get ?
-
Sidereal time Timekeeping based on the rotating motion of the Earth against the 'fixed' stars.

Sorry, I was addressing Sorcerer. And yes, we have wondered a bit off the topic of the OP.

Well low taxation by itself is not a bad thing, it is only when taken in the context of not being able to pay for the services that a society deems essential or when the government has to borrow to pay for these essential services, that low taxation becomes counterproductive. Any other reason is simply re-distribution of wealth, and that is basically taking away any incentive for people to personally improve or better themselves. A government ( or better yet, society ) should provide equal opportunities for people, and a certain standard of life for all its members. Beyond that, it has no business trying to make all people equal in wealth; That is the total opposite of capitalism.

Consider a pool table with balls scattered on it. You would think that with Newton's laws you could completely determine the future evolution of the system, and if the system was linear in response you'd be right. That is if a small adjustment made in the motion of one ball resulted in a small adjustment to the evolution of the system. In chaotic, or non linear systems, that is not the case. A trivial adjustment in the angle of the trajectory of one ball may allow it to completely miss its intended target, resulting in a totally different ( non linear ) future evolution. Now Heisenberg's principle doesn't allow us to know the exact states of quantum particles, but these effects 'average out' in the macroscopic world we live in. So neither, by itself will get rid of determinism. But when the two are combined, even a quantum fluctuation, combined with a non linear response will make any future system evolution unpredictable, ie. non deterministic.
