Consider asking your friends to join our forum, CharonY. We would then have mods/experts.

No one gives a hoot about rep points, Vexen, because some people give them as 'punishment' for having an opposing viewpoint to theirs. Make the best posts you can and always back them with your thinking or evidence behind them. That will demonstrate much more than rep points do. I personally, have only given out one or two ( always positive ), since I joined and it was always for especially humorous posts.

Religion is simply like any other man initiated endeavor, imatfaal. It may have been initiated with good intentions, but soon enough, unscrupulous people start using it to take advantage of others. See atomic energy, the internet, communism, etc. Edit: Sorry spelled your name wrong.

The OP is putting the cart before the horse. Start a new topic to try to reach a common definition of alive ( life, human or otherwise ). Only then can you explicitly define the beginning of that state.

Oh, I see what you mean. Some conflicts are still too raw and could explode in our forum. I don't have a solution for that problem. But even a hundred yrs wouldn't help as I know we have some Brits, and I'm sure there must be some Irish.

The only part of your post which relates to my objections follows the word 'because' in the 4th line. In case you still don't understand my objections, this has nothing to do with right wing principles. You don't like them, and there's quite a few I don't like. So ATTACK THOSE PRINCIPLES, not the people by calling them names. Incidentally, this is the same principle the moderators always urge us to use ( attack the idea, not the person ), or are you gonna start calling everyone whose post gets moved to the Speculations Forum insane also. And this applies to you too, Tenoz, remember, an idea can only be right or wrong, only a person can be insane, So you are not labelling the idea, you are labelling the person, and I think that's wrong.. I will discuss right versus left ideology with anyone ( remember, I am Canadian, our Conservatives are more left wing than American Democrats), but did not read the book Acme wanted me to, because of the title which slights half the American population. Any time a discussion discends into name calling, it is an attempt to stifle further discussion by taking away the oppositin's right to have an opinion. That is my opinion, I hope you respect my opinion as much as I do yours, John, and I will not be saying anything further on the matter ( but I'll still check in on further developements in this thread, yes, I'm a masochist ).

At what age did you attain your bachelors in science?
MigL replied to AndresKiani's topic in The Lounge
At 21. I was thinking of doing a Master's ( MSc ) in Solid State Physics ( but didn't ) so I didn't apply to graduate until i was 23. -
Very sorry to hear of your loss. I recommend finding a good listener to talk to. Realise that they can't say anything to you to make things better, but they can let you vent and release some of your emotions. Failing that, and I realise its not the same as having someone there to talk to, always feel free to talk to us here. Its a tough thing, some of us have been there, but just about everybody will lose people they care for eventually. Again, very sorry, and try and remember the good times you had together.

Certainly not electrical, but there have been attempts at 'fuelless' planes. I do know there was a project in the late 50s ( the hayday of aviation innovation ) for a nuclear powered bomber. The prime contractor was Convair, which was later a division of General Dynamics Corp and is now part of Lockheed-Martin. It was a tailless medium bomber, which could be in the air for extended periods of time to escape destruction, as airfields were the most heavily targetted places on earth during the cold war. It used a compact reactor which used sodium for cooling/heat transfer. The reactor was test flown in, but did not power, a Convair B-36 bomber. The whole project was scrapped when it was realised the crew couldn't stay up for months or weeks because of human 'needs' and the excessive weight of shielding needed.

You realise that things you can control require work. And divine intervention will not allow you to control things beyond your control. So what is the use ? Some people rquire hope and faith to carry on,though. Its not my place to take that away from them, or to ridicule them.

You'll find that Math and Physics profs are not a happy bunch like we are here. They present 'dry' material and have no sense of humor ( specially Math ). We on the other hand are a happy-go-lucky bunch who all love each other. Seriously, its never too late and a fun journey. I wish I was back.

Robert L Foreward ( physicist/author ) wrote a story following Dragon's Egg which had two planets in close enough proximity that a waterfall 'fell' from one planet to the other. I don't recall the name of it, you'll need to look it up.

Endy0816 has it right. Trainers used to talk of a fire triangle, but it has been amended to a tetrahedron. Yes I have fond memories of fires also... Flames 50 ft high around a gasholder containing several hundred kgs of phosphine gas. With the 'real' firefighters afraid to come into the plant. Sigh. The last and only chemistry I actually recall from school ( gr 13, pre-university ) is that titanium burns in a nitrogen atmosphere.

Is time discrete? (split from time does not have a speed)
MigL replied to davidivad's topic in Speculations
But virtual particle mass is inversely proportional to their time of existence, as they are related by the HUP. You could make the argument that infinitely massive virtual particles can exist for zero time, making the smallest time increment exactly zero ( but most usually stick to Planck energy and Planck time ). -
Sure, see Ophiolite's post. He mentioned quite a few interesting possible discussions. Another ( more contemporary ) one I'd like to discuss is the fact ( and the reasons ) Western democracies will never win another war again.

Really Willie ? I like some conservative ideas, yet I don't fit into any of the stereotypes you just mentioned. I also like a lot of liberal ideas. And I dislike quite a few from both camps. I suspect there's an awful lot of people like me. Where do we fit in your world view ?What're you gonna do ? Label us also, and call us confused ?

And, as Ophiolite has stated, we already have forums for. So what's the difference ?

Michel's Q.s about time co-ords - Split from "what is time?"
MigL replied to michel123456's topic in Relativity
You don't think it does, or, you know ? -
But again you are generalizing. Not all on the right have those beliefs. As a matter of fact, there is a significant number on the left who hold Creationism in high esteem, just as an example. So what's the magic number for painting everyone in the group with the same brush ? Is it 10%, 30%, 50%+1, or what ? When does an unfair generalization become unfair ? And when are you gonna start applying it to Muslims and black Americans, and Immigrants , and homosexuals, and women, and the elderly, etc. etc.

Yes, I deal with pyrophoric substances in my work and have limited fire-fighter training. The training specifies all four are needed. In effect, a spark is only needed for ignition and temperature is only needed to sustain. Fuel and oxidizer are always needed ( unless combined in an organic oxidizer ).

MigL replied to michel123456's topic in Relativity
You also say they vacate previous coordinates. GR says they do not. As a matter of fact, GR being classical, says future co-ordinates are populated also. -
Sorry, in nature ( excluding us ), the weak, elderly and sick are usually sacrificed to predators to protect the strong, which carry on the genes. Do we, or rather should we ( because sometimes we do ), do that ? Or do we have moral obligations to be compassionate and care for the sick and needy ?
