  1. The entire Robot/Empire/Foundation series by Asimov.
  2. First post, at the bottom. It would take a mastermind to figure out a way that is NOT calling him a POS.
  3. Because they certainly don't have speech writers or anything.
  4. Can't remember which film it was, but Bruce won
  5. Wouldn't that mean people will always write the same way ALL the time? If so, I would have to say it's not true.
  6. If I'm not mistaken, the beauty of it isn't that a quantum computer can have both 1, 0 and 0&1, but that it can have it at the same time. The reason we don't make computers that can differentiate between, say, 0, 1, 2 and 3, is that such a computer would be both expensive and difficult to build. As it is, we only need to separate 0 and 1 by using either high current or low current, which is quite simple. And cheap.
  7. If you run to where you're supposed to be, you get there sooner thus can get to work faster!

    Silica based life

This site might answer at least some of your questions. http://www.discoveringfossils.co.uk/whatisafossil.htm
  9. What is this "spare time" of which you speak?
  10. Emphasis mine. Ignoring the fact that atheism has nothing to do with belief in aliens, unless you attribute aliens god-like characteristics, it's not about belief or faith, but probability. Considering there are 2-400 billion stars in the Milky Way, and there are something like 100 billion galaxies in the universe, the chances of Earth being the only planet with life is quite unlikely. We can't be 100% sure, naturally, since we thus far only have one sample of a planet with life. However, considering the vast size of the universe, and the insane amount of stars with potential hospitable planets, chances are high. Thus, a lot of people (regardless of their religious disposition) believe there might be alien life out there due to statistical probability, not blind faith.
  11. I think the rapture is supposed to start around 6 pm. Still no info on which timezone...
  12. I would love to be involved in your work concerning female orgasms.
  13. My guess is that it's not like the universe is "using up" its dark energy, especially since energy can't be destroyed, only reformed. And also, when the universe is very very expanded due to the expansion, all the mass and energy will be so spread out, it's negligible. Funny thing is, so is gravity, so it won't really have an effect on anything left behind. This might be a bit of ignorant speculation though, because I don't know a whole lot, even compared to the educated people who still don't really know. in the big freeze is all energy turned into mass and frozen? No, it's when mass and energy are so spread out, it's too cold to sustain life. http://en.wikipedia....anding_universe is all this mass just free falling in space so to speak? No more than now, I guess. Just more spread out. then is it physicists understanding that gravity is frozen too? Gravity doesn't have a temperature, so I would say no. in a vacuum if we have an object with the net value of 1 and an object with the value of 100, given the right propulsion the value of 1 hits the escape velocity, whats your opinion of the outcome? given only them 2 objects exist within the vacuum What do the values signify? is dark energy just a weird name for acceleration? It's the weird name for whatever force is causing the accelerated expansion of the universe, but not the name of any acceleration. Like a car's.
  14. Ah, so by "terrestial hydrogen fusion", you mean the technology we so far have come up with? Not the theoretical upper limit, so to speak?
  15. Does that mean all hope is lost in regards to fusion power plants?
  16. It hasn't been exclusive to geeks for some time now, and Linux works exceptionally well as a workstation. For example, I convinced my dad (who is technologically challenged to say the least) to let me install Ubuntu on their desktop, to my mother's great dismay. Dad got a new camera the other day, and it was hopeless trying to get it to work with their laptop (that's got Vista), probably mostly due to all the junk they've acquired on it. On their desktop, it worked straight away, no drivers or anything. But anyhow, I mostly wanted to brag about my dad.
  17. Doesn't Kindle use any kind of that ink-stuff? If so, wouldn't a screen saver be kinda redundant, since it won't use up battery as long as you're not changing pages?
  18. What is your thesis about? Genetics in general seems a VERY broad subject for a thesis. And normally, web sites aren't the best sources to use for such a project.
  19. CIA and whoever else was involved weren't absolutely sure bin Ladin was in the house until they went in, it seems. In the end, it was Obama who took the decision to go in, despite the risks. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/world/asia/03intel.html?_r=1&hp

    Rapture party

Unfortunately, living in a country comprised of mostly sane and rational people, I doubt most of them have even heard the rapture is nigh. Will try and get some kind of party going though.
  21. Let me rephrase then; Give me intelligent, humanoid robots!
  22. I want robots, and lots of them. Asimo is the coolest thing I have EVER seen.
  23. If it's possible, I don't know, but I kind of fancied the "mind parasites" in Asimov's Hostess. Unfortunately, I haven't read a lot of science fiction starring aliens. Will sort that out once I'm done with Asimov.
  24. Well, an image is a picture. Image can also be how people see something, as in public relations. Bad image means people think poorly of you in general. Graphics can be anything from how something looks to artworks of different kinds, but it depends on context I think. Also, computer graphics is the output of the ones and zeros to a computer screen. At least that's my take on them. But I'm not a native speaker, nor am I that good on definitions, so take it with a pinch of salt. Edit: I'm sorry! I just noticed what forum this was posted in. When it comes to computers, an image is a picture file. Graphics is the displaying data (most oftenly not counting text, even though that also requires a graphics card) onto the computer screen. Sorry for the rant above.

    Wave Power

I think connecting them to wind turbines would be kind of redundant, since the "wigglers" (I have no idea what they're called either) are supposed to generate the power? Last I heard, there is some research being done on them. They have several advantages compared to wind turbines. For example, they're quite invisible to common people, since they're on the ocean floor and all. Don't know about power output, but I can imagine it's quite good if you build a field of them. http://en.wikipedia....iki/Tidal_power Edit: Grammar correction, still not sure if it's correct.
