  1. for future reference, you'll need to put this in the homework section not the chemistry one. anyway, just use the MaVa=MbVb equation.
  2. eh? i suppose the first two paragraphs i wasn't meant to know anything about. as for the third, was i not supposed to understand that either? there are no pirhanas...
  3. i'd love to see what that would do in a pirhana bath:)
  4. if we're talking about hamas, why not talk about state terrorism (israel, the united states, britain)
  5. refer to surfsciguy's post above:
  6. eh, tnt is sketchy. picric acid would be a bit more sensible considering it's hard to add that methyl group and replace the OOH. lsd is quite complicated also. also, i'd like to add that just about any experiment you do at home is illegal. notice how so many products say "using this product in any way other than its intended use is illegal"?
  7. nitric anhydride and nitrous anhydride? nitrous anhydride is easy to produce with simple chemicals...
  8. actually, scratch that; NO2 is nitrous anhydride; it forms HNO2. nitric anhydride is N2O5
  9. nitric anhydride is NO2. when you hydrate it (add it to water) you get HNO3 (nitric acid). NO2 is quite nasty stuff; it will kill you easily if you inhale considering there's plenty of H2O in you to have turn acidic. of course, if you do a reaction carefully, you can oxidize NH3, collect the gas then add that to the solution to get your nitrate salt.
  10. eh...bubble some nitric anhydride into a solution containing a K salt that has a weak anion.
  11. you mean megs, surely, right? my father has a comp that has a hard drive of probably just a few megs; certainly under 30. i'll check camping stores for Mg starters
  12. a good way to check is to powder it and burn it:) incredibly pyrophoric.
  13. what is/are that/those? read above; the Mg is over 90%.
  14. another reason for the more violent reaction of cesium in water and acids is that cesium forms a bond with OH- that has a formation energy (at 25C) of 91+ or - 3 cal/mol^-1 and lithium forms a bond with OH that requires 102 + or - 5 cal/mol^-1.
  15. scratch that; it's not the blades, rather it's the casings. a picture: if that didnt show up, http://www.quiltcandy.com/media/noscps_lg.jpg
  16. the caste system also is hindu. the caste system oppresses. that's not cool. i would like to recognize that every ethnicity has had members that have oppressed others. examples: moorish and berber invasion of the iberian peninsula until 732, when martel saved tours through his wall of cavalry turned heavily armored footsoldiers; carthaginian invasion of italy until italy surrendered its northern region and attacked carthage directly, forcing hannibal to retreat; hindu indian oppression of muslims, zen buddhist japanese invasion, rape, incineration, pillage of china... the list goes on, but i'll save you the trouble. here i have given examples of many ethnicities (that aren't caucasian in any way) oppressing others.
  17. that's unfortunate. i heard that they are over 90% Mg from another enthused chemist. what a shame.
  18. soz for the simplicity of this post, but is it true that the blades of pencil sharpeners are made of 90% (give or take a few percent) magnesium? note: i'm speaking of those really cheap plastic and blade pencil sharpeners.
  19. didn't he have a great deal of influence in ending the vietnam war? nothing more noble than that.
  20. yeah but nothing to cry about...or lose your mucus layer over. a better way to produce Cl2 is to get a relatively high conc HCl and add a nice oxidizing agent like H2O2. it's easy to get conc H2O2 because you can get 40-45% at salons. put the container in your freezer and wait. the H2O will freeze while the H2O2 will remain a liquid (melting point=-11 celcius). of course, when you add the H2O2 to the HCl you will probably want to run away. oh, and wear a gas mask and do this in a well ventilated area. one last thing; why do you want Cl2? it's mostly useless and if youre looking for oxidized chlorine salts, just use chlorox; a mixture of Na and Ca hypochlorites.
  21. nader is alright but all people know about him is that he likes the enviornment, lives on $20,000/year and would be good with the economy. he sounds a bit sketchy otherwise.
  22. it is classy; i played the entire game once.
  23. right, because he's spent so many years in the white house doing nothing?
  24. ah, the triumphant voice of reason and rationality has spoken. any class can be difficult. it all depends on one's specific skills, the level of the class, work, etc. also, one cannot compare the "level" of certain topic of one subject to the "level" of a certain topic of another
