  1. of course. you obtain the atomic mass by adding the products of all of the isotope masses and their natural percent abundancy
  2. well, he could have followed in the steps of colin powell. powell didn't speak at the rnc. guiliani lavishly praised bush
  3. aww, that's the best stuff though...even though i have yet to find a good source for phys chem info. i love things involving phys chem and structure. if i were around at the time i would have beaten watson and crick to figure out the double helical structure
  4. i really think dean obama because dean will be the dem chairman by then. he's done so much to organize the party and his views are agreeable...and he's a true democrat. thing with clinton is the dems will say the us isn't ready for a female president. thing with obama is he doesnt have enough experience yet
  5. physics and chemistry overlap significantly when you get to the more advanced realms of both
  6. isnt the mass of carbon 12.00111 based on the carbon=12 scale?
  7. oh but it does. if he is a whore to bush, it means he may be easily led towards things that aren't in the best interest of the nation
  8. pun! http://www.al-chymist.com/ i dont like them anymore...while they have good discounts on some things shipping is highway robbery. my reagents were their 95-97% sulfuric acid (technical quality) and their potassium iodide (reagent quality)
  9. i wouldnt suggest trying to smell it
  10. amino acids should prove to be soluble in water but insoluble in ether if that helps you any. on a very oblique note, you could add a nitrite to a solution of the amino acid in water. if you notice NO2/N2O4 evolved, you can tell the solution is acidic. careful, though because those gases are highly toxic.
  11. i didn't watch the inaugural parade because frankly, i'm not into corporate whores, kickbacks et al. i did happen to see clips of the police acting like fools shooting xylyl bromide at the protestors. police brutality be damned
  12. he's ok but i am really turned off by the whorish nature he displayed towards the bush admin obama needs experience. being vp would be good for him and he'd run in, say, 2016.
  13. let's see you try it. it's just a series of calculations. i'll give you a nudge in the right direction though. you have the amount of SnCl4 and its density. solve for its mass (DV=M). find the molar mass of SnCl4 (atomic mass of Sn+ 4*(atomic mass of Cl)). find the number of moles of SnCl4. do the same for the Sn(C2H5)4. figure out what the limiting reagent is, then the rest of it is clear cut
  14. iodine becomes more soluble in the presence of iodide anions. i didn't think the aqueous iodine would be YELLOW though
  15. polytetrafluoroethylene-->teflon
  16. dean obama '08
  17. But isn't it rather colorless? not if there are impurities (a little ClO2 for example) present
  18. then that is your war to fight if and when it comes. it is not right to pre-emptively defend your views by oppressing others before your real quarrel (polygamy) is brought to the table.
  19. we already figured it out. I2 isn't red or brown. it's violet or purple. my reaction was to first make HI(aq). as i see it, HI(g), a red/brown gas, was evolved with the possibility of a little bromine (another red/brown gas) as well as a little H2S and a bit of SO2. i didn't have a precipitate so there is no iodine. the solution probably is concentrated hydroiodic acid, come to think of it. in such a case, i'd better get rid of it before the feds come in thinking i am starting a meth lab:\ yes, i believe it was exothermic yeah i know but i don't have enough money for that
  20. eh, actually it was H2SO4 and KI and then H2O2. H2SO4+KI-->KHSO4+HI 2HI+H2O2-->H2O+I2 are you sure you got a yellow foam from KI and H2O2? i personally dont think you did. perhaps there were other reagents used?
  21. worst thing i ever came across was the 25 year old liter of muriatic acid in my basement. that's it actually...altho in bio earlier this year we added 3%H2O2 to 6M H2SO4...so i guess we could have made a small amount of pirahna bath. people didn't care AT ALL and i sorta laughed at it.
  22. i would call it an oligopeptide. it is indeed a polypeptide, but it is to be called an oligopeptide, as it is more correct to call it so
  23. it is quite an energetic compound in that it has in three places N-NO2 groups.
  24. 1,3,5-triaza-1,3,5-trinitrocyclohexane
