there is a fine line to tread however between security and shameless authoritarianism. the government must make good decisions lest the people become angered. it is certainly difficult
woot 1500 posts
the cilia and flagella beat due to ATP motion. i really dont want to get into the biophysics of it because it would take several pages to explain and i dont even know most of it
it would make a thermite, that is for sure. i believe it is Cr2O3
chromium has several oxides: CrO2, CrO3, Cr2O3 and, Cr3O4, namely
best reactions for isolation of chromium would be
Cr2O3 + 2Al --> 2Cr + Al2O3
2Cr2O3 + 3Si --> 4Cr + 3SiO2
speaking of chromium...

the above video is bloody amazing. change the tag to .mpg if you dont have quicktime
yt, tincture isnt cheap at all and i wanted quality reagents.
sholin, try adding more bisulfate. if you lose the violet solution and see iodine crystals settle, you had a solution of iodine and potassium iodide
eh, that would make a flash powder more than a thermite. remove the sulfur and you have a thermite mixture.
by the way, all, who here has tried any exotic thermites?
cuprous salts work i suppose, although barium works better from what i have heard. nonetheless, cuprous salts are less expensive and more readily obtainable
while i strongly oppose a government controlled by government, i vehemently oppose majocracy. a majority does not necessarily know what is in its best interest. take for example hamilton and assumption. take for example south carolina's secession. take for example bleeding kansas. i would shy towards oligarchy before i accepted majocracy
i think we should have a chem category. chem isn't just an "other" science...we could divide it into organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, theoretical, and another for application and private experimenteurism
actually, ethyl perchlorate for example is absurdly unstable, as all organic chlorates/perchlorates are. perchlorates aren't all that stable but they are significantly more so than chlorates and more effective than nitrates
yes, yes it is wacky. dark green viscous volatile liquid that slowly decomposes to form ozone. yup, thats some wacky stuff. explodes really easy. oxidation potential is really high.
i would think that 2-hydroxybenzoic acid could be attacked in the 3,4,5, and 6 regions, more likely the 4 and 5 positions
if you use sulfuric, make sure it's quite conc. it's really crazy stuff i'll tell you that. calcium chloride is definitely one of the best dehydrating agents out there, but as mentioned above, you want to blowtorch it to liberate any water already absorbed
