  1. eh, yes it will explode if the iodine is < or > 99.99% pure. whats this hoof-ailment medicine? can you link me to some?
  2. heh, "shared". the fluorine really "steals" the electrons more than it "shares" them. yes, 4 bonds are made by silicon in just about every silicon compound
  3. isn't it just? gotta love the site tho. sadly, they sell iodine for $20/oz, as mentioned above, which is really a sad thing considering i really want to work with nitrogen trihalides (in very minute quantities, mind you). oh well, i guess i'm off to buy some "tincture of iodine"
  4. it's already as fluorinated as it can be... although i suppose a bit of it would make hexafluorosilicic acid. sorry; forgot about that
  5. of course. if you go to unitednuclear and look for experiments they make you agree that you are experienced and will be careful. if you click the link that says you burn yourself when you light matches, they bring you to the disney site
  6. yes, yes it is. it was an accident i breathed in the chlorine peroxide, just so you know. i'm really careful not to hurt myself when doing lab work (perhaps too careful)
  7. hydrogen peroxide isn't easy to make; don't try it in a home lab.
  8. i did make some chlorine peroxide once when i wasn't so experienced in chemistry. it was a sort of accident (wait, that had sodium hypochlorite in it??). i was looking carefully at my beaker when the reaction occurred, so i got a good breath of it in. of course, i jumped back. i ended up coughing for 2 minutes or so, followed by less frequent coughing and a bit of respiratory irritation. it could have been worse of course, but i didn't get pulmonary edema. both luckily and not so, i did this in my basement, where it is more or less dark, but has no ventilation. as a result, it was sketchy getting rid of the chlorine peroxide, but it did not detonate due to the lack of light. it diffused enough to not explode violently as it left the basement when i opened all the windows and doors in the house. i do not wish to make that again anytime soon
  9. and you ignored my post. grats!
  10. HAHA! funny you mention it. since reagan, the republicans have been chipping away at social security. he privatized it, making it so that people should take out a lesser percent of their paychecks for social security and risk the rest of it. bush is considering making the age for receiving social security older. that's not good.
  11. it seems like you have an incredible amount of trust in one who is not only highly questioned by the majority of the world but has been proven to be a liar (except not quite so publicly). i strongly advise you to not vote this year and just think for awhile about your close-mindedness. i am willing to debate and discuss here, not speak to one who will not even consider opposing views for as little as a moment's time.
  12. actually i can give you a few: "AHHHHHHHHH WE'RE GOING TO BE 0WNZ0R3D BY 1337 H4X0RZ WIT DE NUK35! "AHHHHHHHH SADDAM HUSSEIN IS CONSPIRING WITH TEH T3RR0R15T5!!!ONE!111UNO111!!! PH34R!"
  13. this is amusing; we're all tall. back here, my tallest friend is 6', while most of my friends hover between 5'2" and 5'10"
  14. yeah, but nucleosynthesis isn't so effective for people like us, so there is little use for neutron guns
  15. if he has nothing to hide, why is he concealing almost all of his military records? halliburton, lockheed martin, raytheon pardon me while i laugh. tell me, oh wise one, did you watch the dnc?
  16. i'm 6'2.5" and i'm 16
  17. ack, wrong measurement. that still is highway robbery. for $20 i could get a load of other fun stuff. Edit: or a 1 gram Be ball :\
  18. nothing now, but the hexafluoride would carry a -2 charge
  19. they sell it for $20/gram at unitednuclear. that's far too expensive for me
  20. i bet you had the same results as mine; the chlorate decomposed
  21. that would make it anionic, no?
  22. potassium iodate for salt? hmm, that's a good thing and a bad thing. not so healthy, but good for lab work. check rhodium.ws for a good way of extracting iodine from KI
  23. youll want around 150 celcius i'd imagine
  24. i highly doubt it. if so, a really odd catalyst would be used
