  1. er if you're doing int(ln x) then u=ln x and dv/dx =1, therefore v does = x i think we're saying the same thing..almost originally you said you were doing the integral of uv which would have been the integral of xlnx but you're not. you're doing the integral of u * dv/dx which is what i said
  2. I seem to remember reading somewhere that humans naturally fall into a 25 hour day cycle if they are not influenced by their environment ie. can't see if it's light outside or not. Your body will adjust to your routine and after a few days. When i had to work shifts during the summer my sleep patterns were extremely different one week to the next but i seemed to get into a 2-week cycle and soon adjusted.
  3. I was taught calculus during a-levels (at 16/17, not sure what grade that would be in america) in maths. The physics we did contained a large portion of this basic calculus and i can't imaging how we would have done it without. Calculus involves rates of change of systems which is basically what a large portion of physics is. At university i don't think i've used much, if any, extra calculus that i didn't already know, except for extending it to more dimensions.
  4. Isn't this the same thing as the ping-pong ball on a string being 'sucked' in towards the running tap which we all played with as kids at school during science class?
  5. A search on 'metric tensor' might be useful but from memory due to symmetry or some similar concept these 26 dimensions can be thought of as 10 dimensions which seems to be the accepted (?) number given by superstring theory
  6. Hi This place is quite interesting
  7. Are you saying that it is possible for example to predict the weather on mars forever to an infinite degree of accuracy? There's no life involved so by your reasoning it should be possible. "Stars will shrink at predictable levels and explode. Debris will fly through the universe with the predictablility of very complicated billiards but calculatable. Elements will decay or combine or fuse or fall into black holes but there is no chaos. " No, they won't. Chaos is not just a human-caused 'thing'
  8. er is it? you sure? isn't it int(u * dv/dx) = uv - int(v * du/dx)
  9. His book 'hyperspace' is really good. It's the first i've read involving string theory and makes all the ideas fairly easily accessible. got a copy of TEU to start as soon as i finish it
