A simple homemade Atomic Reactor
MulderMan replied to YT2095's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
thats where people get the idea that plutonium/uranium is glowing neon green. i think they get it off the idea of 'vaseline glass and marbles', and probably the hulk and simpsons but thats another story. i dont think you can get pitchblende in england right? only america. ive heard you can get uramium minerals and rock ore in england from the old uramium mines in cornwall? anyway before id like to try anything like this id like to get a gieger counter first, anyone know where to get a cheap one? the school has one but they will only let me lend it every so often. -
like i say some people have a weird understanding and concept regarding hackers/crackers, especially people with limited computing knowledge.
-
i usually associate the word cracker with someone that 'cracks' programs for piracy, 'cracks' serail numbers and things like that.

ahh she probably meant elements 110 to 118 in period 7 aparently theres a naming scandel and fraud over them. im only really comcerned with the common ones but have a little obsesion with that radioactive ones
-
so whats the authority on it if there is? only realised that Lanthanoids + Actinoids is named after the first elements on the row. my science teacher told me that they have found most element apart from discovering ones made by nuclear fission, but they are still trying to work on period 7 but its full on some websites and only half full on the table she showed me. shes the type of teacher that will answer ALL my chemisrty + physics questions but today she handed me a book 2 inches thick .

i belive mitnick did it for the fame and freinds anyway, and he also has a form of dyslexia refered to as the hackers desiese. people take difrent interpritation of the word hacker, most people in school think you are one if you use command prompt.... i refer to is as a computer / network enthusiast. ive done some things but not to a really bad extent.

how often does the periodic table updated, i have a massive poster of it and its missing a few that i can see on the net. isnt 232Th that stable isotope? the highest radioisotope is 230 isnt it with a h-l of 75400 years? i still have alot to learn about radioactiveness so excuse me please.

thanks, remembered seeing it on how 2 and the big bang tv shows... back to pyro, making dextrin - its the binding agent right? i tried to make it by putting cornflour in the oven but it looked like nothing changed.... anyone

i thort that someone invented nirtoglycerin but then Nobel's brother dies cos of one of his factories exploded with it. so he wanted to make it safer by mixing it with lots of different chems, then he mixed it with kieselguhr ? the thing that it was packed in boxes with, but then he called it dynamite so is dynamite NG?

i didny know asda had a awful big collection,i usually just get the french roast - when they sell it to me. they think theres some law about selling coffee to minors.... a starbucks frapachino is quite nice also, doesnt give you too much 'coffee breath', thank god they just opened in warrington .

my amd athlon xp 2000+ is locked 6.25 * 199 , it has a lot more potential i think. and as good as i am a dont want to risk unlocking it.

thats the pic were i got the name idea from YT, you can guess that i am a x-files fan , i also like this pic someone made me . and mulderboy is just plain wrong, and i use it in alot of forums aswell...

selenide?... anyhoo, i hate doing 'theory' work it really gives me a headache, well just boring theory work eg. most of my coursework...

well we sort of made a paste out of something (was already done but i predict potassium nitrate and a binding agent) and then soaked filter paper in it and sort of shoved all the paper into a smarties packet. then a magneium fuse was put up it. thats all i remember and it exploded. but some people class pyrotechnics as an art. but you have to consider colours and making 'stars' for it and the way you pack the rocket. would the 'thermite' reaction be classed as pyro, id like to see it done but it looks dangerous. i also remember doing something like we soaked filter paper in a clear liquid the she already made let it dry in the fume cupboard and when you lit it with a match it just dissapeared. ive done lots of weird experiments in science club but we dont get to write it down really. ill try and remember more or just ask the teacher.
-
do i sense sarcasm? isnt wepons grade uranuim isotope 235?, why dont you try something with a short half life like a isotope of iodine, and ive been tought that they measure half life with carbon dating. ignore me if im wrong as i only started learning it the other week .
-
ill be real coca cola, and i only like special types of coffe done with a machine, i once tried caffine free coke and it drained me. i dont like a awful lot of energy drinks - red bull esp. but yes good old fashioned english tea does the job also. im not a caffine nut like some people that inport beans and stuff are... just need it to get through the day, and stop the paranoia
-
back on subject, is matches hard to make, patassium chlorate + red phospherus ? i also remember last year in "science club" we made sparkelers with potassium nitrate (i think) and rockets. the sparkelers worked but the rockets sort of exploded, im sure the teachers either faked their BSc or have got alot of insurance .
-
thanks for explaining it some more.
-
i think i might settle for the youngest (14) - 15 in a couple of months. that doesnt go to say that im dumb or immature though.
-
from my falling asleep biology notes .... nitrogen - protein phospherus - flowers potassium - roots magnesium - chlorofil i dont pay a awful lot of attention when we study plants and rocks, no offence as i do like doing some experimnts in that area.
-
are you talking about ammonium nitrate, http://www.iwar.org.uk/news-archive/2004/03-30-4.htm that was one of the stories i was on about, its intended pourpose is fertiliser right, plants need nitrates for protein? isnt KNO3 potassium nitrate the oxidising agent? i never knew ammonium nitrate was explosive until that police raid. another thing is the racism factor, they only raid people of asian culture most of the time.

incredimails quite fun.

well ive been asking the teacher for months to do a project on radiation, we learned bout alpha beta gamma, half life, geiger meters and all that, even tested abg elements. then the week before half term we studied radiation and medicine, things like a radioactive isotope of iodine and a tracer machine to see if somethings wrong, and then radiation therapy and my science teacher said its the same as chemo?
