I am gonna have to point out that SFN's rules do not allow soap boxing (see rule 8). So are you just trying to convert people, or do you have something to discuss?

I am confused how do those not show evidence for dark matter? I mean phrase such as "provides an independent confirmation of dark matter" and "these observations provide the strongest evidence yet that most of the matter in the universe is dark." seem to tell me that their is strong evidence for the existence of dark matter.
-
I used it since it gave a very nice explanation of the material being discussed, and gave a good explanation of the problem at hand. No, you don't. The context of any statistic is INCREDIBLY important. In this context without knowing the time and location of that statistic it is impossible to decided how many trails would occur, and with out the number of trials it is impossible to calculate the expected value, which is what is important here. You can say an event has a very low probability of occurring, but if the number of trials is high enough the expected value will show this. That is why I feel in this case it is better to look at this statistic.

You really misunderstanding probability here. I would suggest you take a look at this article it explains gives a good example to help you understand this. It also gives a good argument for why live would still be formed by chance.

Science is able to study dark matter through observing its interactions with other things. Here is an example for some of the evidence for dark matter: Press Release More Info Here is a site published by Harvard affiliated with Chandra about the evidence for dark matter.

So I have been wondering what the average SFN user is like. So I created a short, (7 multiple choice), survey to see what most SFN members are like on certain subjects. The survey will ask for no personal information, and is meant only for the purpose of my own curiosity. If you wish to take the survey here is the link: Survey to Determine Average SFN Member If you guys would be willing to take the minute or two to take the survey it would be greatly appreciated. I will post the findings of the survey, once it is over. I know that surveys are often posted on here, but please realize this is in no way spam, and that I am only doing this because I am curios what the average SFN member is like. Thank you in advance to anyone who does take the survey.

No, until you provide evidence of your claim with a citation your point is worthless. I have given you examples of one population becoming a new species. Where do you find scientific problems with them. You keep making this universal statement that evolution/speciation has never been occurred, but I have shown numerous different examples that prove you wrong. Why don't you read up on what evolution is, what examples of speciation have been observed and then refute my points. You cannot win an argument by simply ignoring evidence and repeating the same thing over and over again. No matter how many times you say something it does not make it correct.

Here is my answer to the question:

Elena Kagan was officially confirmed as the 112the Supreme Court Justice today by a 63-37 vote. Fox News Justice Kagan's confirmation really is not that surprising as she seemed to have a relatively clean past without any highly controversial incidents. The vote itself is also not that surprising as it was basically straight down party lines. I am interested however to see how Justice Kagan falls ideologically on the bench. Everything I have read on her makes it seem like she is fairly moderate in her beliefs, which could make her the major swing player on the bench.

I never commented on the validity of the arguments put forth by both side of the debate I simply stated that boiling down one sides argument down to gay bashing is not progressing the debate. If anything it is an ad hom on one side of the debate. You can disagree with one side's points as much as you wish but attacking them is not a valid form of retort.

They are not the same species. If they were the same species they would not be reproductively isolated from one another. The fact that the different populations are reproductively isolated means that evolution/speciation has occurred and new species have been formed. BTW, infertility is a type of post-zygotic reproductive isolation.

If you read that article you would have noticed the line where it states: If you would then look at the items I posted: With reference to the Drosophila melanogaster experiment: With reference to the London Underground Mosquito, Ergo there were new species formed through evolution.
-
You do realize that not all plant, all mosquitoes, all rabbits are from the same species. I feel like giving you more examples of speciation will not do anything until you take the time to fully understand what it means for a population to become a new species. So I would suggest you take time and read something similar to this article, and then come back and say their are no examples of specieation.

Some scientists think that evolution is wrong and that the Earth is only a couple of thousand years old. Luckily science does not care what you or a scientist thinks. It cares for what a scientist can prove and defend with evidence. Nope, you have not seen an atom. I can guarantee you have not directly observed an atom.
-
Did you read any of the pages I linked to? Did you look at any of the quotes I posted? If you read any of them you would realize that I gave you numerous examples of exactly that. Please show me how the examples I gave are not the creation of new species from evolution.

I would bet if there was a referendum to legalize plural marriages that their would be an uproar as big, and probably bigger than the one over Prop 8. I will state that by no means is marriage meant to be a plural affair., nor is it meant to be a forced joining, and by NO MEANS is marriage supposed to be the sexual assault and abuse of children by people. That being said I think it is possible to have a debate on Prop 8 and gay marriage in general without chracterizing one side of the argument as simply gay bashers. Both sides of the argument have points, and to refute the points of one side by saying they are gay bashers is wrong.

Hmm from the link entitled Evidence From Observed Natural Selection: And as I quoted in my previous post: Here is a site with a bunch of examples of speciation with references. Here is another site with examples of speciation. So there are numerous different examples of speciation being observed. Although I am not sure why I continue to debate something I am unable to directly observe since I cannot be sure it actually exists. B)

The job of the president is a very complex one, and the person who holds it is very often required to respond to numerous challenges some expected some unexpected. Regardless of whether the president has seen a particular situation coming it is his job to handle the situation in such a way preserve the United States, and help the country prosper. So although President Obama might not have know of the coming economic crisis that he would be forced to handle he should have know, simply by looking at history, that as president he would face a plethora different problems many unexpected. As for placing blame for the current economic situation here's my breakdown of it (please note that they are in no particular order here): -President Obama: He has made numerous different policy decisions in hopes of fixing the crisis so he is definitely at fault in part for our current situation. -President Bush: The crisis began under his administration, and he made the early policy decisions that had effect on the situation. -Congress: They have been making legislation that helped cause the crisis, and legislation that has tried to resolve it so where we are today is impart because of their actions. -Credit/Financial Companies: They gave the loans and ran their companies in such a way that this crisis happened. -The America Public: We were the ones who wished to live above our means. We were willing to take out mortgages with either not fully understanding the risk or knowing the risk and accepting it anyways. We were the ones who became unable to pay the mortgages we took out. We were the ones who as a majority elected President Bush, President Obama and Congress so part of the blame for their actions fall to use. So it appears to me that a large portion of our current economic situation can be blamed on us the American Public. As for what will happen in the mid-term elections in November. The GOP will take back a lot of seats in the House and Senate. I am guessing they will take control of the House, but the margin here will be very very close (probably less than 5 seats). The senate will remain in control of the Democrats, although they will loss their super majority. The Republicans will take charge of most of the governor races. They media and Republicans will make a huge deal that this is a initiative on President Obama and the Democrats. The Democrats will buckle down and attempt to get legislation through, but will complain the Republicans are not doing anything. And the partisan bickering continues.

I have not directly observed that you exist. Can I then only make the unscientific assumption that this post must be the work of God? Each of your three examples has been thoroughly research, and supported by numerous different observations. Just because you cannot directly observe something does not mean it cannot be explained by science. The fact that things such as Black Holes interact with the surrounding universe means we are capable of using those interactions to provide evidence for the the existence of black holes. As for your claims that evolution has never been observed that is just plain wrong. Antibiotic Resistance E. coli Long-term Evolution Peppered Moth Evolution Evidence From Observed Natural Selection

Those governments, which find the death penalty to be a convenient way to eliminate people, or groups of people, however, would in my opinion find any excuse or way to execute/eliminate those they wanted regardless if they could use the death penalty to do so. For example, the one of the Soviet Union's greatest crime was committed simply by a few changes in policy that led to the death of 3-10 million people in one year during the Holodomor. It doesn't matter if the Soviet Union had outlawed the death penalty or not, they would have still committed genocide through different means.

A method you could use to get the stopper out of the flask similar to the one suggested by CharonY is shown in this video: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDr9B5ebuRo&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDr9B5ebuRo&hl=en_US&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDr9B5ebuRo&hl=en_US&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> I have never done used it to remove a stopper, but I have done it with a wine bottle as in the video, and it worked well, and looks really cool. I would assume it would work equally well for removing a stopper as its basically the same as a wine cork.

Wikileaks releases 92,000 classified documents on Afghanistan
DJBruce replied to Cap'n Refsmmat's topic in Politics
So earlier this week Representative Mike Rogers (MI-R) stated that he thinks that PFC. Bradley Manning should possibly be given the death sentence if convicted for his role in the wikileaks scandal. Politico: Rep Mike Rogers: Execute Wikileaks leaker I can understand how you can consider Manning's actions to be very major offenses, but I am not sure they deserve execution. Also I think executing him would just cause a PR nightmare. However, the military justice system is very different from the civilian one, so I don't know if the punishments are different. -
In Michigan you have your standard array of bumper stickers. The most popular being the political ones, the Jesus fish, and the coexist sticker. Personally on my car I have two bumper stickers one that says BRK, which stands for Breckenridge, and the U of M block M. I do think bumper stickers are way better than truck nuts.

I would suggest some type of ball valve rated above 100 psi for your cannon. They make 2.5 inch ball valves like this, but they are very expensive. So I would suggest you properly seal one end of your PVC and insert a smaller adapter that you could connect to a smaller ball valve, like 1/2 inch, as it would be more cost effective. However, when you are making connections be very careful to make sure the connections are secure as anything under pressure can cause great harm if a connection were to fail.
