What are you talking about? You haven't demonstrated anything, and your claims were debunked multiple times already. What, by repeating yourself and ignoring counterpoints?
-
Pangloss, I do have to ask this now that this topic has been brought up. Why do you seem to scream "political correctness" every time someone doesn't agree with what the current opinions/actions of the government, military, public policy, etc. is? Or when knowledgeable people come in and attempt to correct misconceptions that people might have (or squash erroneous arguments)? It seems like you are just slapping that label around so that you can avoid actually having to counter their points....
-
Oh, ok, my mistake. Thanks for making that clear. That still doesn't get ttowntom off the hook though.....
-
Whoa! Did this guy just fail statistical analysis class? You are arguing against a point that was never made? And, you haven't actually shown anything as of yet, all you did was pull out a graph with no reference to observed data and then proclaimed that you somehow debunked the climate models. Your point doesn't stand, because you are wrong. The corrections made were minuscule. And, the margin of error is much less then 30-50%, if you actually read the link I posted in an earlier thread. Yes, and all you have done is cherry picked data points and claims and then made some other stuff up. And, you have not actually backed your claims. Nowhere in these sources you "cited" does it say any of what you previously claimed.

Only it's length changes. A space traveler's mass would also change, due to E = (1/(1-v2/c2)1/2 - 1) mc2 and m = m0/(1-v2/c2)1/2 (e.g. It gains more mass due to it's relativistic speed and large kinetic energy).

Well, I know the zerg can do it, but they are a fictional species. Otherwise, you might want to read up on this: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/dna-computer.htm and http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2003/02/0224_030224_DNAcomputer.html

They are listed right on the graphs; all they basically are is just a set of predictions on how the Earth might end up warming over time. The reason I brought this up is because what is displayed on the graphs (with the second one showing the observed increases) contradicts his claim that "warming was overpredicted by 500%". Also, the figures he pulled out were clearly cherry picked (e.g. the .2 C increase this poster was talking about, was a reference to the fact that warming had been occurring at .2 C per decade on average).

Experience has shown me that there is a great deal more to love and sex then just a set of biochemical processes.....

Really? Then take one good look at the papers here: This doesn't look like it supports your assertion at all. In fact, it looks like you were just cherry picking and making things up (nor does it seem like you know how to calculate a standard deviation...) Also, read this thread: http://www.scienceforums.net/forum/showthread.php?t=27104. Your analysis is wayyyyyy off.

Well, which branch or part of science are you referring too? It is quite a broad subject.... Anyways, you can look here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/wallpaper/ And: http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/wallpaper/index.cfm http://www.space.com/php/multimedia/downloads/wallpapers/ http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/wallpapers/science-space http://www.yourwallpaper.com/general/science/ For starters.

Sounds interesting. As I won't be traveling out of North America any time soon, is there a chance that they would be posted up in a PDF format or something, for other people to view?

Anyway to change your username?

You didn't have to change it, but thanks anyway. I got a PM from thedarkshade complaining it was too long, that was all. -
There's also the fact that we are upright and have thumbs....

I remember when I was known as Lockheed.
-
Nah, I'll let you go on entertaining us with your ignorance. I'll nuke you later, when you begin to bore me . Besides, I have another flame war elsewhere that I have to settle....
-
No one was arguing that we were separate from nature. Other primates and maybe dolphins probably have the same abilities, but beyond that there really isn't much evidence that other animals have the same mental capabilities. Well, at least here on Earth.....

I kinda find it funny that Eric 5 is trying to tell a physicist (and one who works with atomic clocks no less) that he doesn't understand relativity.

Oh, some on here think the "Formerly Known as Lockheed" thing is too long...... -
What do you make of this article, by physicsworld? http://physicsworld.com/cws/article/news/33256;jsessionid=1CF5E6A097A1B2E8DFDF0BFCC2F917EC It would appear as if they made an artifical black hole in the lab.... Not a gravitational one, but they say that you could make one in an optical fiber, though the method shown is a bit questionable, to say the least.
-
Personally I think MIT would be a better choice, but it's for you to decide....
-
HA! You mean you have no interest in actually talking about the science behind it or being honest with your debate tactics, because you know exactly why I'm calling you an idiot. You are in no position to make any demands. But, I'll tell you what. I'll flame a little less so that you don't go off running away, and if your a good boy, I might even drop the insults and sarcasm all together. Oh looky here, lots of claims and no references. And, strawmans too! And do I see instances of you making stuff up? How typical:rolleyes:. I guess we can also ignore all of those graphs that include sunspot activity too, many of which you can find in just about every site that deals with climate change, and the other points that I just previously made (e.g. blocking solar wind). And, I guess you still don't believe (or don't understand) the definition of solar irradiance: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_radiation Or, you can look at these definitions: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&oi=definer&q=define:total+solar+irradiance&defl=en Solar irradiance is SOLAR ENERGY HITTING THE EARTH, mostly coming from radiation. Or, if you still don't understand that, then take a good look at this blackbody diagram, and you tell me where most of the sun's energy peaks: Oh no, this ain't going around in circles anymore. You know why? Because this time, you aren't going to be given a chance to slip away with your blasted rhetoric.... ============================================ Indeed. And all of that didn't amount to anything. Time to bring out the nukes !!!!!!!!

communicating with an extraterrestrial civilisation
Reaper replied to JohnF's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Well, I would say that it depends on the circumstances. I'm pretty sure that it is unlikely we would give away military secrets, but other information (such as astronomical ones, or information about homeworlds, histories, etc.) I could see happening. And, messages exchanged between us and them doesn't necessarily have to have any real content in it. I can easily see companies forming and looking to make a profit out of just communicating with extraterrestrial civilizations (e.g. advertisements for the general public to send a message in a bottle through space, or extraterrestrial penpals, etc.). We already have services that would allow people to be cremated and launched into space when they die, so why not? Well, they might be more technologically advanced, but what about just scientific, philosophical, or other types of knowledge. If they are as curious as we are, I'm pretty sure that they would be interested in obtaining knowledge about our side the universe. Well, we don't know what the economics involved are. It may not be economical for us to travel those long distances at the moment, but we don't know what more advanced spacefaring extraterrestrials would be capable of. So, there is no reason as of yet to count the other things out as possibilities. Heh, heh.... what a scary thought, isn't it . -
Well, regarding that, according to the video I posted (man, that was a while ago!) I remember them saying that savant-like capabilities aren't even possible in normal people, unless there is some fundamental changes within the brain itself. Likewise, I also heard of attempts to use transcranial magnetic stimulation to induce savant-like abilities. But, I don't know how effective that was (or read any peer reviewed papers on it for that matter), and overall I really haven't kept up with autism research updates for quite a while now.

It has been, but then, you should never underestimate the power of large amounts of stupid people.
