  1. OK well if the left side is y * log x, then the formula simplifies to the following, log (x^y) = log (2x^2) --> 2 x^2 = x^y, therefore y = log(2 x^2)/ log(x) so for x =3 y = log 18 / log 3 5 --> log 50 / log 5 10 --> log 200 / log 10 12 --> log 288 / log 12 if it's the other way around and it is log (x y), then y = 2x 3 -> y = 6 5 -> y =10 10 -> y =20 12 -> y = 24
  2. Could you show your work to get to the answer? I'm stuck at x * ln x = ln(a) / (a+1)
  3. MPAA has struck again, chopping the bit-torrent society at the knees. Suprnova.org has finally fallen. For many bit-torrenters, this was the best, if not only, site to get .torrent files. All I can say is that it will be greatly missed. If any others have anything to say, please share your comments here. Thank you RIP Suprnova
  4. My main problem, I think , is that my firewall keeps blocking access from any computer outside my network. I am running Serv-U so I've got the ftp server, but I can only access the ftp server from my own network, which is of no use to me.
  5. Hey guys, I need help. I am trying to access my harddrive from locations other than my computer, and I am having issues doing it through ftp. Is there anyway I would be able to set up my computer so that whereever i am in the world, I could log onto my home computer and pull off files from it? Thanks in advance, DimShadow7

    Cells

    I think the other thing with the cells bubbling out of puddles of lipids is called chemical evolution. I have a vague memmory of this but I remember that both were compatible to some extent. Could you expand on why they are not compatabile? Thanks, DimShadow7
  7. I've been stuck on this little coding problem for a while, and I figured this would be a good place to find some help. I've got an access table that keeps track of inventory, pretty much has a product SKU and a UnitsInStock field. I want to create a form that will allow me to scan in new products with a scanner. Pretty much I need a text box that will have the scanner input values and then have it increment the UnitsInStock field for that particular SKU by 1. I haven't been able to get this to work yet!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, DimShadow7
  8. The fact that flipping a coin would not effect future coin flips was my point. On the other hand, say that in the (extreme but point proving )choice between killing someone and not killing them. By not killing them I have allowed them the ability to make decisions that may influence other people in some way or other, which will then domino into a greater scheme of things. By killing them I have virtually nullified all of those possibilities, and those things that could have happened had that person lived, can no longer happen. Thus each event is dependent on the events before it, and therefore there is the directional movement in time, as apposed to the completely isolated and random system that flipping coins poses.
  9. Historically (lol, as in since life began) extinction was caused by drastic changes in the environment within a short period of time that species could not deal with. An example of this is the massive extinction that happened when Earth atmosphere was transformed to a oxygen rich atmosphere by the cyanobacteria. This change messed with all those wonderful little creatures that were roaming around being anaerobic. O2 killed them off. The ones that survived had already evolved to be able to keep living in the O2 rich environment. More recently though, say oh the past 5000 or so years, extinction has come about directly from competition with humans. Humans decide to change stuff quickly and animals just cannot keep up, and therefore they die. We do this directly when the animal in question holds something of value to us, like oh let's say whales... Even if we don't directly kill them off we can do this by destroying and polluting their habitats (foresting, and industrial run-off). And who says humans aren't efficient!
  10. Saturated Fats and cholesterol tend to build up in the arteries, and cause heart problems. Our bodies can only digest these at a set rate, therefore we have to limit the intake to avoid this build up.
  11. Using the ruler, draw a line that crosses the circle at two points (A and B). Take the compass and put it on point A, and then extend the compass past the center (you'll have to guess the approximate center for this), now draw and arc. Then take the compass, keeping it open the same exact distance, and place it at point B, and draw another arc. The two arcs should cross in two places. Take a ruler and and connect the two points. This should also cross the original line AB, and that point will be the center of the cirlce.
  12. Just wanted to add my two cents into the picture. The main problem with extending the law of large numbers (saying that the actual occurances of x divided by the total number of occurances approaches the probility of x occurring as total number of occurances increases) is only true if each event is completely independent of each other. In the case of time, this is simply not true. When one event occurs it then influences every other event after it. So there is less randomness in the long run of things and more of a directional movement.
